Laboring Over Games (mostly Bioshock) this Holiday Weekend

For many, Labor Day marks the end of summer, the return to school, and at least for me, it brings the dawn of another season of college football! Just as important, however, it provides us with a nice, relaxing 3-day weekend for catching up on games.

Looks like Bioshock is still the most played game around the office, with at least 30 guys planning on playing it this weekend (some for the second time through). In addition to this instant classic from the artists formerly known as Irrational Studios, there’s plenty of other games being played this weekend, including the Call of Duty 4 Beta, Two Worlds, and Metroid Prime 3. Anyhow, here’s the list:

Welter Almeida, QA Intern: Starcraft: Brood War, Lair, Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, Nascar ’08 Demo

Josh Anderson, Programmer: Bioshock (Xbox 360) while I can and Marvel Trading Card Game (PSP) on my long flight to Utah this weekend…

  1. OMG Arcanum! Awesome game, despite the combat system. We need more steampunk RPGs.

I just got an nVidia 8600GTS, so I’m going to play some Oblivion to enjoy it with more playable performance and video settings turned way up. Good times.

  2. What’s “Lords of the Realm”? And why am I playing it this weekend?

( The correct answer is “Bioshock and WoW”, if’n you’re interested. )

  3. Lords of the Realm was an incredible game that I suppose you could compare to Rome: Total War in that you manage your settlements and build a war effort while sieging cities on a battlemap. It was really really good.

  4. No games at all this weekend, as I’m going to Wisconsin Dells on vacation. But tonight, definitely WoW.

When I get back, I’m diving back into Shivering Isles and Overlord.

  5. I should’ve been cooler and said other activities and pretended they were games.

Gary Noonan is always going to be cooler than me.

  6. Lords of the Realm I and II were awesome. I think I reviewed both way back in the day. Great fun. Props to Dan for going old school.
