So tonight is our office holiday party….it’ll be my first here at Bethesda and it sounds like a great time: good eats, open bar, and a “Casino Night” to follow. It’s nice that it’s on Friday too because folks don’t have to worry about sludging through work the next day. Given that we’ll all be sleeping in tomorrow morning, we thought we tell folks what games we’re NOT playing and the reasons why.
Nate Ellis, Design Intern: Rock Band, because I would need a larger apartment, wallet, and friend’s list. Civ 4, because I have to show up to work on Monday.
Megan Sawyer, Environment Artist: World of Warcraft. My lvl 68 druid night elf will forever remain in my heart (and on their servers probably) but I need time to play other games, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune because I don’t have a PS3. Also, CSI: Dark Motives for the DS, because I’m waiting to get that for christmas. ;D
Mike Lattanzia, QA: Assassin’s Creed – I can’t afford it right now and Civilization 4 — my friends won’t play it with me.
“Coach” Dan Geske, QA: AMF Pinbusters Bowling, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, and Star Trek: Conquest. All because I don’t have a console at home. I know, I really gotta work on that.
Adam Adamowicz: Anything that has anything to do with Steam, which is a shame because those damn games are beautiful, but for the life of me, I couldn’t be asked to install Steam, again, for like the fifth time. Where’s my drink?
Ashley Cheng, Producer: Not playing Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty 4 or the Witcher until I finish Mass Effect.
Ricardo Gonzalez, Not Not a Programmer: Team Fortress 2 due to a congenital pwnage deficiency, Animal Crossing to avoid the guilt trip my neighbors will put me through for not showing up for a year or three, WoW because…why aren’t I playing WoW right now?
Ryan Ashford, QA: Fallout, because you can only go to bed with a Supermutant so many times a year. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune & Assassin’s Creed, because I don’t have a 360 or PS3… yet.
Phil “Doesn’t Get His News From Blogs” Nelson, LD: Due to an addiction to Rockband I don’t imagine myself playing anything else in the foreseeable future.
Nate Purkeypile, Hotkey Advocate: The Witcher, because a billion AAA titles just came out on the 360. As much as I would love to play a massive PC RPG, I want to play through all the other shorter games first before I dive into something like this.
Captain Jay Woodward of the New Alliance of Free Stars : I’m not playing The Ur-Quan Masters, because after completing its prologue and departing Sol on a mission of galactic salvation from thralldom, I was overwhelmed with such awe for its vastness and depth that I have required years of tranquil contemplation merely to accumulate the quantities of stoic resolve and notebook paper that will be necessary for such a Herculean (or, more aptly, Odyssean) task.
Matt Ouzounian, Queasy Analysis: I’m not playing Fallout 2 because I refuse to believe a descendant of lieutenant Dangle would not have maintained the prosperity and protection of Reno. I’m not playing Uncharted because it’s only available on PS3. I am playing Mass Effect, the Orange Box, Arcanum, and planning to redecorate my room/home electronics in a victorian/steampunk theme.
Fred Zeleny, Fancy-Pants Designer-Guy: Mass Effect, Rock Band, or anything else that requires a functional 360. Maybe if I look deep into the reflective DVDs, I can hypnotize myself into thinking I’m playing them. Sigh.
Emil Pagliarulo: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for the Wii – I’ve already played about 397 hours of the Lego Star Wars games with my kids, and even though my son just got the Wii version for his birthday, I’m completely burnt out; any MMO – again, I’ve reached the point of exhaustion.
Todd Howard: I am playing Microsoft Train Simulator (don’t ask). I am not playing the drums in Rock Band anymore; my wife said it sounds like “someone’s doing bad construction.”
Gary Noonan, Character Animator: Call of Duty 4 and Assassin’s Creed. Because I don’t have copies of either. Fair enough, right?
Tim Lamb, Associate Producer: Assassin’s Creed, Mass Effect, PGR4, Halo 3, and bunch of other games I was looking forward to. My hunger (addiction) for increased Prestige seems to have no end (90+ hrs and counting)
Michael Wagner, Marketing: The Wii. Frankly, I’ve been very disappointed in the game selection for the Wii. Mario doesn’t do anything for me, so that can’t help.
Matt Grandstaff, Community Manager: World of Warcraft because I’m addicted to games enough already. Most PC games because I only have a MacBook at home, and I’m not going to deal with Boot Camp.
Pete Hines: Portal — I loved it, but now it’s over. Guitar Hero III, because completing medium was enough stress on my fingers. Assassin’s Creed, Mass Effect, and about 10 other games sitting unopened because I’ve gone back to finish Bioshock. Picross and Jeanne D’Arc because I haven’t been travelling lately.
