This week we’re getting to know another team member from A2m — Philip DeRosa.

What’s your job at A2M?
I’m the QA lead for this project managing the QA team and the Issues. When I came aboard I was an associate producer and brought in Agile practices and ran core strike teams focusing on building core game functionality.

What other games have you worked on, and in what role?
I was QA Director for several years at BioWare  and at a publisher/developer. I like to keep one foot in production (1st hand knowledge of the product) and have helped ship Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox/PC), Jade Empire, various Neverwinter Knights expansion packs, Disciples 2, Orb and a bunch of others.  I also worked on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

What is the best part of your job? The worst part?
Best Part:
The people — very bright and I enjoy working in a collaborative environment to accomplish goals that I couldn’t otherwise do on my own.

Worst Part: We work behind the scenes.

How did you get into the industry? Do you have any tips for breaking in?
I worked with someone outside the industry who’d moved into the games industry.  When a QA Director position opened up at his company he gave them my name and the rest is history.

In my experience I found these to be factors that help people find, retain and grow in the industry – having a passion for games, work hard, take pride in your work, be humble and open minded and be patient.

What would you say is your personal favorite game of all time?
Warcraft 2.

What games are you looking forward to?
Diablo III and Starcraft II.

What makes you get out of bed in the morning?
Interest in paying bills, my alarm clock, my daughter, my wife, hunger… I love making games too.

Worst job you’ve ever had?
Garbage man, good exercise but stinky, messy and somewhat dangerous

Any other hobbies and interests? What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I do a lot of research on Games on my spare time (that’s what I tell my wife).  I’ve been analyzing World of Warcraft as of late.
