What we’re playing: Mass Effect 2 Countdown Edition

mass-effect-2-logo.jpg

Welcome back to another edition of What We’re Playing. This time around the most noticeable trend I saw is that plenty of folks are eagerly anticipating Mass Effect 2 (surprise!), which will be released a few hours from now. For many, this also means getting through the first game — either for the first time, perhaps for some, the fourth time.

In addition to Mass Effect, here’s the other games people are playing…

Ryan Sheppard Jenkins: Mass Effect 1 in anticipation of Mass Effect 2.

Aaron Mitschelen, QA: Mass Effect. Gotta finish that second play through before ME2 on Tuesday! (Maybe Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero? if I get off the couch for some reason.)

Peter Sokal: Uncharted 2 and Darksiders, attempting to beat both before Mass Effect 2 comes out and consumes me.

Justin Schram: Bayonetta this weekend and anticipating Mass Effect 2 on Tuesday!

Michael Musick: Finishing up Darksiders, replaying the original Mass Effect before picking up the sequel, and my new favorite casual game – Critter Crunch.

Ashley Cheng: Borderlands, Madden 10, Poker and Swords, and waiting for Mass Effect 2!!!!!

Ricardo Gonzalez, Programmer…Innnnn Spaaaaace: Lots of Mass Effect, in preparation for even more Mass Effect 2 next week. Squee!

Orin Tresnjak: A little bit of World of Warcraft. Man, it’s changed a lot since I last played it. Also Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

Caedmon Somers: Dirt 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Dan Ross: Getting back into some Company of Heroes, maybe some Burnout: Paradise, and hopefully some tabletop time with Malifaux.

Colin Doyle: Eternal Sonata, Assassin’s Creed, and Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers.

Emil Pagliarulo: Divinity 2: Eco Draconis (360), Star Trek Online Open Beta (PC), and Army of Two: the 40th Day (360).

Jon DeVriendt: Darksiders, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Quake Live, League of Legends, Company of Heroes, and Torchlight.

Brent Krische: Wolfenstein 3D (XBLA), Spear of Destiny (PC), Bookworm Adventures, Muscle March, and hopefully Zombie VS Ambulance over the weekend.

Dane Olds: Heavy Mach 2 on the iPhone. It’s a great little Mech RPG. I’ll also be working on my platinum trophy in Demon’s Souls. Just two more trophies to go!

Gary Noonan, Character Animator: Fallout3 GotY…. go figure.

Michael Lattanzia: Entropia Universe, Batman: Arkham Asylum (Finally), Champions Online, Lego Rock Band, and Malifaux (tabletop game).

Cory Dornbusch: All on the 360 :( Boarderlands Co-op, L4d2, Bioshock 1, and The Saboteur. No gaming graphics card is makes this PC gamer very sad on the couch.

Greg Hounsom: Mostly Left 4 Dead 2, but also playing Trails HD (trying nail expert level), Borderlands, and clan parties in MW 2.

Tom Lassanske: Empire: Total War (while waiting for “Napoleon: Total War”).

Sean Palomino: Assassin’s Creed 2, Bionic Commando, and Darksiders.

Shane Liesegang: Way too much Star Trek: Online, going back in time with some System Shock and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Mike Dulany: Bayonetta, Street Fighter IV, and probably some Spirit Tracks.

Alistair Hatch: I hope to finally finish Assassins Creed 2! Then plan to get back into Borderlands with some co-op play and also give some proper attention to Bayonetta.

Matt Ponton: Dead or Alive 2: Ultimate, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, and Fatal Frame IV.

Natalie Gausden: Fallout 3, and then when I get tired of the killing — Professor Layton.

Zack Quarles: Left 4 Dead 2, Deadspace (again), and Metroid Prime trilogy

Matt Grandstaff: Finished Borderlands and now moving to its DLC. Getting ready for the playoffs in our Madden 10 league (more on that later), Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, and flirting with the idea of finally getting back to Mass Effect 1.

  1. Certainly an entertaining read to see what people of one of my favorite company are playing :P

I personally am not that too much fired up by Mass Effect 2 anymore. :D I’s already coming to my place as I preordered it. :)

Other than that, Critter Crunch and Malifaux… Wow, didn’t expect to see these. Love them myself a lot. :)

  2. I already played Mass Effect 2. I am close to beating the game. Amazing game, the characters, voice, graphics, gameplay, lenghty, everything is perfect. It deserves a big 10!

  3. Just got the latest copy of the Swedish PC Gamer. On the “next issue” page, it says that there will be two exclusive articles, but there’s no names of the games, just pictures – one being picture of Vault Boy, so it’s probably Fallout: New Vegas (there’s a comment about it earlier in the magazine too). The other picture is maybe a bit more interesting – it’s the roman number V. It looks very, very Elder Scrolls-ish. Just sayin’ :D

  4. Just picked up Mass Effect 2, I’m completely happy. First though I’m going to beat some more stuff on the first but since I pre ordered the CE from EB Games I got about three different codes containing loads of goodies inside. The Collector’s Edition is amazing I haven’t really been happy with a Collector’s Edition I’ve bought since Fallout 3 not even MW2’s prestiege edition, it just has some amazing boxart and a metal case that will blow you away all beautifully packaged. It’s now sitting on my shelf with Fallout 3’s lunchbox.

Oh my its V THE SERIES!

I have yet to get into the whole MASS EFFECT thing but plan to buy both games in the future. I also havent played BIOSHOCK so sometimes my Not Played Games List is odd considering i should have scooped them up as soon as they hit the store shelves.

What am playing at the moment-

    MORROWIND
    DAGGERFALL
    OBLIVION
    FALLOUT 3
    BORDERLANDS
    LEFT4DEAD 2
    CARMAGEDDON on Dosbox
    MECHCOMMANDER 1+2
    EAST FRONT (Talon Soft)
    STEEL PANTHERS 1+2 (Gary Grisby)
    WARHAMMER 40k FINAL LIBERATION

  6. Oblivion and MW 2 multiplayer if friends are playing.

I thought about getting Mass Effect 2, but I haven’t played the first and when I watch videos of it, it doesn’t look like something I’d be that into. I like my western RPGs in 1st person and with lots of loot and exploring to do. Mass Effect looks kind of linear from what I’ve seen of videos. I’m hoping someone can tell me otherwise.
