What we’re playing: Playing Basketball like Kurtis Blow

basketb3a.jpg

So because nearly everyone in the ZeniMax family is playing Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2, and I already mentioned it this week, I thought I’d share a little game Nick introduced me to last week that I’ve become obsessed with. It’s called Basketball, and it’s available to play for here…for free!

Now I’m already a basketball fan — my cat’s name is Chauncey Billups and I tried to name another Tayshauna Princess — but I’m pretty sure anyone out there will enjoy this game. The point-and-click shooting method offers quite the challenge, but it’s quite rewarding when you get good — especially since you can compete against hundreds of other players every three minutes. As I was writing this, I decided to play around and was giddy about making my first 10 shots in a row. Thanks Nick…I’m obsessed.

When you need a break from Mass Effect or whatever you’re playing, give it a shot.  And now, the rest of the games we’re playing…

Nate Purkeypile: Mass Effect 2. I have Space Fever.

Brett Douville, Keeper of the Frame: Dragon Age, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, perhaps some Spirit Tracks… and definitely some more Dominion.

Michael Wagner: Dragon Age. Mass Effect will have to wait.

Ala Diaz: Dragon Age, WoW, and Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time.

Dane Olds: Mass Effect 2.

Tihana Tresnjak-Smith: Demon’s Souls, obsessively.

Mark Lampert, Audio Director: Mass Effect 2 and Agricola.

Orin Tresnjak: World of Warcraft has sunk its hooks into me yet again. Thank goodness I have a really short attention span.

Ryan Jenkins: Mass Effect 2 and King’s Bounty.

Aaron Mitschelen: Mass Effect 2.

Matt Grandstaff: Basketball, Mass Effect, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and Madden 10.

Andrew Scharf: Finishing up Uncharted 2, Mass Effect 2, Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

Alistair Hatch: Just finished Assassin’s Creed 2. Thought it was great with good improvements on the original. Can’t stop playing Trials HD at the moment.

Devin Winters: Assassins Creed II, MW2, Uncharted2, and now I’ve started playing Kameo.

Greg Baverstock: Football Manager 2010 (PC & PSP); Broken Sword Directors Cut (NDS); Bayonetta (XB360) and Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast). Yes, a retro moment.

  1. @ Caedmon Somers – HAHAHHAHA Dont you know silly Caedmon….. Bad Company 2 beta is out on Steam (and the 360 if you want to stoop to that level) No longer do you have to mess around with sloppy games like MW2.

  2. Re basketball game, had to give up after about two minutes. I thought, “What is this game teaching me?” and answered, “that I suck at this and that my time would be more productively used doing something I’m better at”. :p

(Ironically, I was reasonably good at basketball in school.)

  3. According to the basketball game leader boards, I’ll go on record saying South Korea or Poland will win the next Gold Medal in Olympic Basketball.

Yes am not into sports video games either except for car racing for the possible destroying factor :D I was really good at basketball almost always getting it in the hoop. Unfortunately i couldnt dribble even if i was frothing at the mouth :( So i was always called in for those tie breaker moments where you just stand in one place and throw the ball ha ha.

Games am playing at them moment:

FALLOUT 3 with some cool new mods WAR 1.1 by mytheos77 and Moshman’s Wasteland Ambiance.

MORROWIND with a fresh install and a ton of mods. Keeping my fingers crossed it doesnt all come down like a house of cards at some point.

    DRAGON AGE ORIGINS
    CARMAGEDDON on Dosbox

  5. Morrowind, Mass Effect 2 and WoW Icecrown Citadel Raiding for me this weekend. I was hoping to get into Star Trek Online, but it just doesn’t hit me as a game that you can build a strong community (in game at least) with.

  6. I’m glad to see some of you are playing the BF:BC 2 Beta. I say MW/MW2 go home and stay there! Been playing the Battlefield series since BF. 1942 and played them all, even had a go at 2142 once but decided that that was just too silly! So it’s pretty much been BF2 untill now. So i’m relly glad to finally see something that can actually replace it on PC. Been playing a lot of DoW since the second one sucked big time. So i had to play the old one again to make the horrors og DoW2 go away. But then the BC2 beta came out and that pretty much left no time for any other games at the moment. Hopefully be seing you on the battlefield and i’ll be looking foward to getting your dogtags for my collection.

p.s doing these it would be nice to get some gaming nicks when talking about online multiplayer games. It would be nice and interresting to know if you where hunting some Zenimax folks on a server :-)

  7. Ironic – even though you’re playing basketball, you’re not really playing the real thing… Got addicted to that game too – and it’s all cuz of you! Now, I’m even less productive :P

  8. BC 2 demo is quite good, but I still like some aspects of MW 2 better. The weaponry is a lot more useful than some in BC 2. The grenade launcher seems to do next to nothing in BC 2 for instance, I shot a round that exploded at a guys feet and it didn’t even any damage. While in MW 2 it reeks more havoc than it should for a game lol.

  9. Hehe Carey. We don’t have the same experience with the noobtube. Handgrenades have next to no blast radius and poor damage unless you hit right on the money, but the noobtube has a small but sufficient blastradius, is easy to hit with, one shot one kill and you don’t damage yourself even if you shoot at point blank range (or take minimal damage). So a lot of ppl. abuse that. So once again it lives up to it’s nickname. You really need no skill to use it! Otherwise I’m very satisfied with the weapons in the game though perhaps you need at bit to many bullets to make a guy hit the ground if you don’t hit ppl. in the head, but the hardcore mode will take care of that and they still have time to tweak the game which is the whole point of a beta :-)

  10. Well, I’ve had that happen in the BC 2 demo. MW 2 however, I’ve gotten headshots with the noobtube. It’s kind of frustrating to be honest, an M203 has an kill radius of 5 meters and and will cause a lot of damage to anything within 10 meters, that actually goes for all fragmentation grenades too. But yet when I hit a round right at someones feet, it does nothing lol. I have killed one person with it, I usually just use my rifle. One thing that is woefully inaccurate with BC 2 is the XM8. The development for the XM8 was canceled. They made working prototypes for the US Military to test and partially field, but no soldier was ever issued that weapon.

  11. dragon age origins the awakining dlc, mw2 (which i just decided to play again) i am sorry but i cant do it anymore i have played the shit out of fallout 3 i just cant do it anymore ;(. i did touch mass effect for the overlord dlc and now im on vacation and i cant play anything but i wish i could since im starting to bore when i cant do anything interesting besides watch as much machinima as possible. mainly mw2 research (im that bored).
