What we’re NOT playing: Three Day BBQ edition

IMG_1976.jpg

It’s Memorial Day weekend, and many of us are putting the controllers down and taking advantage of our extra day off from work. From BBQs to road trips, here’s a look at how we’re unofficially kicking off summer.

Rest assured there will be games played this weekend too, and we’ll let you know what we’re playing next week. Until then, here’s our non-gaming rundown…

Emil Pagliarulo: Massive spring cleaning (including a much-overdue dusting of the Man Cave; hanging up a big Celtic tapestry in my front hall; perfecting my Irish coffee recipe; having a cool day out with two of my kids (I have so many, we need to work in shifts!)

Ian Rogers: Going to Virginia to meet with the wedding cake baker Saturday, Memorial Day BBQ on Sunday night and hopefully, going to the pool on Monday.

Ken Barner: Maybe going to the parade in VA w/family. Probably partying with friends. There’re errands that free time would let me run. No plans, plenty of possibilities.

Max Cameron: Playing GURPS with friends, chilling around the house.

Brett Douville: Coaching a weekend of baseball at the Walk the Plank tournament with the Olney Buccaneers (Arrrrg), watching games when I’m not coaching, and using the evenings to refine my cooking technique.

Tracey Thompson: Heading out for another little Grizwold family vacation — Hershey Park here we come!

Matt Grandstaff: Celebrating my first anniversary at The Inn at Little Washington, doing the Skyline Drive and possibly going to Shenandoah National Park.

Caedmon Somers: Watching NHL playoffs.

Matt Ponton: Watching the Prince of Persia movie, ordering some joysticks for the arcade cabinet, picking up some Xbox 1 controllers, and working on my new website (eventful, I know).

Laffy Taylor: I’m going to feast on charred mammal remains and imbibe beverages concocted of fermented barley, hops and water.

Mike Onufrak (QA Intern): Going camping with my girlfriend in the mountains. Possibly playing some paintball at one point.

Erik Deitrick: I’ve got a backlog of work around the house that I’m trying to motivate myself to do. If I find the motivation, then I’ll be ruining my neighbor’s bbqs with the sounds of my chainsaw, table saw, miter saw and circular saw. Sadly I can’t use my normal household repair motivation, drinking a bunch of beers while I do it, lest I come back to work Tuesday a slower typist.

Nicholas Heller: On a comedy boat tonight and doing an elephant safari around London tomorrow!

Jonah Lobe: Camping overnight in Harper’s Ferry, then staying at a bed-and-breakfast in Annapolis!

Gary Powell: BBQ festivities, UFC: Rashad vs Rampage, and other assorted 3-day weekend shenanigans.

Michael Lattanzia: Possibly getting crabs since I’ve been craving them since I was talking about them yesterday.

Andrew Meggs: Non-gaming? Hah! I’ll unplug the consoles, but my friends and I still have a full weekend of tabletop planned. Primarily Pathfinder, and maybe some Wings of War.

Jeff Browne: My wife and I will be tearing down walls and ripping out counters in our new home! Hopefully the house will be still standing come Tuesday.

Pete Hines: Going to see the US World Cup sendoff match against Turkey in Philly with friends. Taking my boys to Hershey Park.

Nathan McDyer: Driving to Montreal, listening to The Girl Who Played with Fire on the way. Also I am going to eat a foie gras burger at Au Pied de Cochon.

Timothy Beggs: Catching up on yardwork. Wee.

Gary Noonan: Finish my superiorly robust and complex stereo install in my VX, spend a day at the range with the AR15, and devour quantities of cooked out meat and manly beverages with friends and family.

Aaron Mitschelen: Writing code for a tool to speed up file access on games with large data files. Technically, that’s not playing!

Jen Tonon (QA): Band practice, early birthday celebration stuff (yeah, presents!), Coheed and Cambria @ the 9:30 Club!

Jason Bergman: Flying home for 12 hours (after being away for two weeks), grabbing the family, and whisking them off to Chicago to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday.

Justin Schram: Going to peruse some of the local art galleries in DC, then seeing a concert at the Warner Theatre. I am also celebrating my birthday!

Nate Purkeypile: Playing with our new kittens, Boomer and Galen. Yes, they have Battlestar Galactica names.

Megan Sawyer: Non-stop spring cleaning! I know you are so jealous you can’t stand it. ;)

Dan Teitel: Not playing Civ 4. Clean and sober for over a month, now.

Matthew Dickenson: Camping and a wine festival.

Ricardo Gonzalez, Doesn’t Understand the Question: Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.

  1. Considering I live in Canada, we already had our long weekend last weekend. As usual, it comprised people getting together at various locations, imbibing ridiculous amounts of fermented beverages, BBQ’s out the yin yang, fireworks displays ranging from the small (people’s yards) to the large (people’s fields) with all variations in between.

Me, I did what I always do… stay at home, putter around on the computer doing whatever and wait for things out in the world to return to some semblance of normalcy. Needless to say, I’m still waiting.

Have a great weekend all of you :)

Hot dang! Thats gonna be one happy house shining with golden sunlight throughout the summer :D

Me am going out for walks in the park which is easy since its only a block away and fifty plus blocks long. Truly i feel like a little wittle wood elf at times. Also watching a ton of horror/sci-fi movies i’ve brought recently such as

    DRAG ME TO HELL
DEVIL MAN Special Edition (Movie not anime)
    CONSTANTINE
    SPOOKIES
    DEMONOID
    THE SLAYER
    THE RATS

Also enjoying plenty of OBLIVION with OSCURO’S OBLIVION OVERHAUL mod and some NECROVISION and F.E.A.R. 2

Happy Memorial Day everyone and especially to those in the Military who are always there for us.

Also, not sure what you meant by “Games We’re NOT Playing”, I haven’t seen the light of day in like three weeks…

  5. @ Svenn/Erik W – LOL!

@ Megan/Emil’s marathon cleanup – oh snap! Me too! I spent seven whole hours using one of those hired carpet cleaner thingies, and then the next day just scrubbing walls and surfaces. Ouch.

@ Purkey, you officially have the world’s coolest kitties.
