id introduces two QUAKE LIVE subscription packages

After being down for a day, QUAKE LIVE players missing their online fragging fix can return to action later today — as the game has officially exited beta! In addition to the ‘Standard’ free-to-play version, in a press release today, we’ve announced ‘Premium’ and ‘Pro’ subscriptions — adding new maps, game modes, and plenty more. Details below…

The Premium Subscription, which can be purchased for $1.99 per month, billed annually, includes:

  • Access to 20 QUAKE LIVE Premium only maps at launch with more to come.  Premium maps are a combination of brand new maps and frequently requested community favorites from previous QUAKE games such as Aerowalk, Theater of Pain, Japanese Castles, and Realm of Steel Rats;
  • An all new ‘Freeze Tag’ game mode;
  • Exclusive premium level awards;
  • Create your own clan and join up to five separate clans;
  • Custom QUAKE LIVE profile wallpaper; and
  • Match statistics stored for six months.

The Pro Subscription, which can be purchased for $3.99 per month, billed annually, includes all of the premium subscription features as well as:

  • The ability to start your own game server, specify a server location, determine the game mode and invite who you want to join you;
  • With the Pro Subscription, you can invite three friends with Standard level memberships to play with you in any Premium level map;
  • Exclusive pro awards;
  • Create your own clan and join up to ten separate clans; and
  • Match statistics stored for 12 months.

The QUAKE LIVE ‘Standard’ version is still free to play and includes friend lists, access to one clan, matchmaking, and stats tracking delivered through a web browser with over 40 arenas and five game modes.

    Thats a huge step forward, I was expecting something big before Quakecon, but this is HUGE!
    I hope you will add even more maps to play on in the future, also cpma physics would be awesome, but it’s up to you I guess to bring the biggest remaining q3 community to play ql ;) .

    So, the best that i can do is quit of quake live and go to quake 3, with that maps (WITHOUT PRICE).

  10. Man, wish my unemployment came in about right now.
    I’ve been trying to figure out a way to stop playing Quakelive so much and focus more on school work then they do this.

    I wonder if I can complete school once I’m dead and just enjoy Quakelive while I’m alive.

  19. You guys don’t realise you can’t make your own server. They just give you one with the IP address. And your ping will be really high depends on your location.

    It just sux that im a 14 year old with no money :( ,… oh well, at least most of my quake friends will have the pro (private servers :D )… and the maps 20?!?!?! OMFG THANK YOU i was expecting like 4-5 new maps, no price, but no FREEZE TAG!!!!!!!

  24. nice that some GOOD old maps are coming back! very exciting..i miss them… BUT i sure hope after i pay im not told “be down 4 more hours” and 8 hours later still nothing, watch some videos of people with too much time to play quake…….

    as for Dessicated Corpse, your the only one crying. how do you expect the dev team to stick around full time to support this game if we don’t support them in turn? After all its their game, so shut up and pay or play the free version

  28. looks like they ran into trouble. They kinda missed guessed how much time this would take.

    Looks maybe like they tried to ‘fire’ ‘em up and something went wrong. I’m sure they’re frustrated, and I know we are all frustrated just sitting here hoping, waiting, and refreshing the page eagerly anticipating the new launch!

  30. Can QL post at least an ETA on the update? It’s been 8 hours since ‘we anticipate another ~4 hours ahead of us’ and the id account incorrectly claims QL is back up (as of 5 hours ago)

    Yes, I’d imagine it’s embarassing to not have the service up right as you announce the pay subscriber options, but staying silent about it isn’t winning any friends.

    I’ll become a Pro subscriber if QL comes back by 11:59pm EDT, a little over 1 hour from now :)

  36. i for one am disgusted in these new subsciptions.
    i have been a STAUNCH quake player and supporter for 15 years
    but what is quake live, quake 3 arena
    havent we all purchased this game once before ?
    50US which is roughly 80$ NZ (new zealand, which doesnt even have quakelive servers) for a YEARS subscibtion to a game i have already purchased. and what extras do we get. FREEZE TAG. 100 year old content. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??.
    Dont get me wrong i love quake live, its absolutly awesome. but i feel ripped off at this decision.
    It feels somewhat disgusting along the likes of Blizzard entertainment

    but will most probably still purchase due to my love of the game.

    Premium Maps? Useless!
    Premium Awards? Useless!

    There is no Argument to pay 2$ or even 4$ each Month just to have some – useless – benefits. This is not a RPG!

    They earn already enough with all Tournaments, Cups etc. Specially then when they are going to add Ads to the Game, now they event try to charge for useless goodies?

    The only Reason which counts (for me) is the ability to create a own Server, but the rest definitly not!

  44. this bunch of morons, brings QL site down for like 30h and now whens up, ppl cant login. What a morons, they give us update that crashed site :) coz everyone is getting connection error

    Was trying to get pro earlier, hopefully they support to pay from germany soon 2day – cant wait \o/ Loved the new features, only thing that didn’t fit my expectations was phrantic with rail and the jump at the lower yellow :( Hope it gets some tweeking soon

    Cant wait to get my hands on playing again :-D
