The second video developer diary for Brink, The Dawn of S.M.A.R.T., is now available online. Watch it above to learn about the game’s intuitive (you could even say smart) movement system in the game.
In case you missed it, you can watch the first diary, The Last Stand, at IGN.
the more i see of this game, the more i’m interested in it. the single player story and action looks pretty awesome, and S.M.A.R.T. looks like one of the best implementations of a freerunning system in a game…
ah, but if the multiplayer is done right it looks like it could be the next Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament: crazy fast DM/TDM action with slick characters, rich levels, and lead and explosives always on the weather forecast! for all my love of tactical FPSes, i still sometimes hunger for some brainless shoot ‘em up action like Q3 and UT brought. Team Fortress can provide that, but even that has high n’ mighty goals beyond simply making low-grade dog food from your enemies.
this game looks like it could be a good fit for “squad deathmatch” a la Bad Company 2: 4-way TDM. 4 teams of 4-6 players each trying to kill each other, preferably in a twisty, crazy tight level. think Blackhawk Down – 360 degrees of threats. or, in the case of S.M.A.R.T., 3-axes of threats!
S.M.A.R.T. coupled with rpg skill leveling could really make character growth stand out even more then ever before. It might even make each class feel totally different with a ninja being able to do all sorts of air to air acrobatics while a melee based character would be stuck on the ground relying on brute strength instead of agility etc.
BRINK looks great. Needs more blood though
