  1. good stuff! the Brian Hess interview really took me back to the early days of Quake – the online and LAN play, the mods, and how cutting-edge it all felt. i remember hearing about the early QuakeCons and being so jealous that school, parents, and the price of plane tickets made it hard to hit up any cool cons. id was legendary not only for their releases and quality, but their accessibility and odd mix of rock star and everyday guy image. they didn’t feel like a business so much as just some guys just like us that had made it and were doing badass work at a dream job.
