Game Informer’s Skyrim cover revealed

GameInformer kicks off their coverage on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim with a first look at the cover for their February issue. We hope you like it!

For those wondering when you’ll be able to read the magazine, we’re told subscribers should start receiving their copies of the magazine around January 10th (possibly earlier) and you should be able to find it at a GameStop stores beginning January 14th. In addition to their 14-page cover story (the largest cover story in the magazine’s history), this month they’ll be putting up additional info on the game and the team at Bethesda Game Studios on their website — so be sure to keep an eye on GameInformer.com/Skyrim.

Oh, and about that mysterious text on the back cover. If you’re Dragonborn, you should be able to figure it out. Otherwise, GameInformer.com hints you’ll have more to work with very soon…

What’s that on the back cover? The strange language seen there offers the first hints of Skyrim’s story, along with a unique tie to the singing in the recent teaser trailer. What does it say? The answer lies in translating the stanzas into English. Check back later today to solve the puzzle. It’s the first installment of our month-long extravaganza of online Skyrim stories, all of which will be found on the game’s hub page as they release, linked from the image below.

Stay tuned for more on Skyrim.

  1. I’ve never been so happy to say I was wrong. I figured Bethesda gave up on TES after seeing how well Fallout did. You guys really kept it a secret. TES turned me into a PC gamer back in 2002 and I’m glad Skyrim’s coming.

I like the simple elegance of the cover. I do hope the 14 pages of article space inside isn’t simple though. :)

  2. We expected some screenshots but I think the cover itself seems very nice!

I won’t be participating in checking GI every hour a month long though. I hope they post articles with some substantial information and not just one small piece at a time..
Of course skyrim will get more attention that way but I don’t think it would enjoyable, but rather frustrating.

  3. Interesting. Doesn’t look like Daedric, Ayleid, or Dwemer script. (Though I guess it COULD be a highly modified/stylised variant of Daedric, some of the runes are similar if you squint.)

  4. Look guys, it’s Bethesda’s own version of Draconic. How could you not get that? We’re not going to be able to read it without cracking it or getting some sort of cipher unless one already exists that I don’t know about.

  5. The reason it’s not showing much content in the cover here, is to make the Magazine more interesting and exclusive… We’ll probably see a lot more information and screenshots jan 10th, when the Magazine has arrived. :)

  6. Great cover full of mystery with wonder of the horrors and joys to come. The black nothingness from whence infinite imagination is born into the reality of essence. It would be great as the art SKYRIM’s game box.

Thanks for the sneeky peeky :D

  7. Love it. Don’t let the naysayers get you guys down, it’s generating lots of buzz in plenty of places and that’s exactly what you guys want, right? :)

Definitely going to go hound Gamestop as soon as the 14th rolls around.

    OR

    Dragonborn Dragonborn
    By his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay
    And the fiercest foes rout
    When they hear triumph’s shout
Dragonborn for your blessing we pray

    And the scrolls have fortold
Of black wings in the cold
That when brothers wage war come unfurled
    Alduin bane of kings
    Ancient shadow unbound
With a hunger to swallow the world

  9. Subscribers get the issue on the tenth? I just got my subscription issue in the mail around the twelfth, and it was the January issue! So I called GameStop, they said they’ll probably have it closer to the end of the month! What gives?
