In case you missed it, GameInformer.com has revealed that the dragon text on the back cover their upcoming Skyrim issue relates back to last month’s announcement trailer. Here’s their explanation…
“Last month saw the release of the teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, also available at the bottom of this article. During the trailer, you probably noticed some mysterious language being sung. What you might not have known is that the words are in the tongue of the dragons, an entirely new language crafted by Bethesda for use in the upcoming game. This complete language plays an integral role in the story and gameplay of the upcoming epic, and introduces an intriguing new facet to the Elder Scrolls mythology.”
Once you’ve decrypted the text and know what it says, we suggest you celebrate by downloading the game’s announcement trailer from Xbox LIVE (or just using the video above) and start singing along* in English. And grab a camera — we want to see videos on YouTube.
*dressing up is optional
I don’t think this will take to long to have the translated version on youtube.
Too bad we can only sing along the first half!
But the second half contained a spoiler so I get why it had to wait untill the cover reveal.
In the next trailer we might hear the whole thing.
Heres to hoping the second stanza will find it’s way to the next podcast.
Is the text on the back cover of theGame Informer Feb issue the same as the singing in the announcement trailer at the end? Is it just the first verse on the back cover?
I can’trecognise anything being the same except for Dovhakiin.

“introduces an intriguing new facet to the Elder Scrolls mythology.”
Is this really all-new or did MK already hint at it with the Aldudaggas and the World-Eating thread?

@Lady N, the dragon language is brand new for Skyrim
I love how the theme is a new version of that great ES theme…. <3 the music
@Gstaff now I have a question. The actual “dragon language” appeared in Daggerfall as a skill, though I don’t think you ever saw it. So this is just fleshing that out more? What I mean by that is when you say it’s brand new for Skyrim you mean actually *really* putting the language to use and showing it right?
I forgot to say I think it’s really awesome to see more languages get fleshed out in Elder Scrolls. I’ve always found Daedric really interesting and I translate it whenever I see it in game. Looking forward to doing the same for this Dragon language in Skyrim.
Outlander does a language exist if no one have ever uttered a word/sound/signal of it? Indeed even formed the words? Or if it’s a written language only, if no own has formed the letters/symbols of it?
No not if you look at how a language is defined. So really this language is new in the sense that it has never been invented, just used as a reference and a non concrete skill in a game.
I don’t mind people being very keen on details, but I think it has to have both a reason and grounds in actual consensus, dogma or normal way of thinking.
no pun intended
@DanishMIKI I was saying that this “dragon language” already exists in the lore of Elder Scrolls because your character in Daggerfall could speak it when speaking to Dragons if they had the skill. It just all showed up as english so you the player could understand it. So, in the most technical sense it was invented already in the lore of the game. You just never “saw” what it would look like to someone who didn’t understand it. I’m not arguing that it’s not “new” in the sense of now they have really fleshed it out like Daedric. And from a marketing stand point it makes sense to brand it as “new” because people will be more interested in a “new” dragon language and will draw more people too it. Whereas the only people geeky enough about the lore to nit pick it being called new like me love the fact that they are expanding upon it more then we care about it being branded as new.
So, for all the TL;DR people out there, I’m just being nit picky and am really excited to learn more now that they are fleshing it out ^_^
