A week from release, Chris Avellone returns to discuss the second holotape you’ll discover in Lonesome Road…

The Fallout New Vegas DLCs have been a unique opportunity to do short stories in the Fallout universe, and a rare opportunity to know, for certain, you’re going to be able to do a series of adventures, with a clear ending. As a narrative designer that allows you to do something rare in the game industry – foreshadowing across multiple titles.

As an experiment, we decided to use this opportunity to tell an overarching story in the Fallout universe, and let the player see firsthand the wreckage left behind in the tracks of two couriers, from your Courier, to Elijah, to Christine, to the Sierra Madre, to Graham and the White Legs, to the Old World madness of the Big Empty… and lastly, the road that leads into the heart of the Divide and the player’s past through Ulysses’ eyes.

This is the second holotape your Courier can discover in Lonesome Road, and helps put Ulysses’ journey to Big MT in Old World Blues in perspective. It was another accident sparked by what happened at the Divide, with far-ranging consequences.

  6. Great Holotape. Loved hearing #1 too. I really have to say I have much respect for Bethesda and the Fallout series as well as all the games Bethesda and Obsidian have had a hand in. Some of my favorites ever. But people have been begging you to release the trailer for Lonesome road in tweets and forums for weeks now and we are only a week away and still no trailer. I don’t understand why a company that had promised DLC which came late, watches and reads how much a trailer would mean to their fans of which there are many, and nothing. It feels like a slap in the face. A lot of dev’s would love a fan base as big as yours, you have seen how badly people want the DLC, and I understand that there are reasons the delay(s) happened, but come on. If we were 6 months away I can see it…but a week? Your fans had your back when the critic’s slammed you for releasing the game with so many bugs. Still fans worship you and held on. I just don’t get it. You are so lucky to have the kind of fans you have and the loyalty you get from them. And I realize luck isn’t all of it, hard work and dedication have a lot to do with it too. I admire and respect you but this is a huge fail. If there is a technical reason, a contractual reason, or something keeping it from being released then just say it. We are seeing trailers for Triple-A games not being released for another year or TWO. And you can’t release a trailer to DLC that is so important to this game and to your fans that keep you in business? Don’t get it. Really don’t. You have a huge opportunity here and you’re blowing it. Does that mean I will never buy your games again? No. I am not that childish. Just don’t get the mindset behind the madness. I do have an understanding of the “business” having worked for Sony for years and then Sega. So I’m not someone who doesn’t understand. I do. And that is why the bugs, the delays and all don’t bother me. But this…this does.

    • they are doing something differant then a trailer they are releaseing holotapes i personnally would prefer holotapes cause you dont see anything that spoils it

  7. To be perfectly honest, I don’t see the importance of releasing a trailer for DLC. It’s already been announced, information has already been divulged and we’ve seen screenshots. I’d watch the trailer if it were released, only because the add-on isn’t out yet. Personally, I’ve already read enough about Lonesome Road to get an idea what it’s going to be about. I don’t think a trailer would get me anymore excited. I already plan to buy it, and from what the forums show, so do a lot of other fans.

    I don’t….I guess I don’t really about care about these things.

  9. I too would like to see a trailer just to see more info tho :-) … I think i kno basically what got what dlc will be about but it does seem like bethesda wants to keep as much infomation about lonesome road as close to there chests as possible i got a feeling it will be well worth it

Ulysses is still a mystory tho im not sure but i think he may want to use or befriend the courier im really unsure but what ever happens it will be epic!! Roll on the 20th :-)

  12. Cant wait to play this dlc – Been a huge fan of fallout since i first played f3. easily my favorite game overall – and i dont know about anyone else but if nuclear war happens im confident il be much better off than non fallout fans after the smoke clears (Thanks bethesda :)

    Is there any plans for the next game in the fallout series ? anyone know ? Id much prefer a trailer for that than this dlc -
