Dragonborn!

Back in February, we threw down a challenge: if anyone delivered a child on 11.11.11 and named him/her Dovahkiin, we would provide free Bethesda games for life.

Today we congratulate proud parents Megan and Eric Kellermeyer for completing the quest. As noted on their webcomic site (and documents shared with us), Megan gave birth to Dovahkiin Tom Kellermeyer last Friday at 6:08 pm PST.

Be it the real world or the game worlds we create, we wish young Dovahkiin the best in all his adventures. And if Alduin ever reaches this realm, we’ll be in touch.

  1. Hahah don’t worry doesn’t matter what you do theres always at least one person who will cricitize something so even if you are just get over it ^-^

  2. They Cutest Little Baby Ever :)
At First i thought the name was skyrim its a cute for a girl skyrim he so cute best of luck to your new family ! :) he is so cute but if it was gurl you should name her skyrim so unique !
    -Chaoo !!!!

  3. I’d like to remind all that many people name their kids after favourite characters (you wouldn’t belive the amount of twin sisters/bothers named Luke and Leia), actors, musicians, politicians etc. Sometimes people “invent” names and the child ends up being called Phantasiia, Lataya, Ivennette, Orkan and others. Others are being named after towns/countries they have been born (Tunisia, Alabama, Sydney etc). I won’t elaborate about the “Hollywood” trend where babies are named Bear Blu (sorry Alicia! that is a stupid name!!) or Sparrow, or Peach or Apple…

And if you think that kid with a name from a video game will end up beaten and ridiculed please take a look at Zelda Williams:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zelda_Williams

Great name for a kid :D
    All the best :)

  4. I also herald my friends for the succesful delivery of their son. ;) Most awesome parents ever. Hope Kyari is happy with her baby brother. :)

  5. I’m not even one for naming kids after video games/comics/random European cities…etc, but this is awesome. I can’t understand why some people are flipping out and saying they’ve doomed their kid to a life of being bullied. In my academic career, never have I ever seen or heard of any kid getting bullied because of his/her name. And if it, by chance, happens to this kid…well it’s all about how he takes it. If he grows up and is taught that his name is badass and awesome, then he won’t care…and probably will strike fear into the hearts of those who try to say something.

Besides…Dovahkiin has a cool ring to it, especially paired up with that last name!!

  6. Dude, the name is pretty epic… don’t think its. Bad nam, peopl say this child will get picked on but just think about some of the blck kids with crazy names that don’t get picked on… if I have a son I’m gona talk my wife into naming him Alduin.. I love that name

  7. I would rather go with doahkiin instead of names like: shi-thead (real name.. that’s shithead) or a’sshole (asshole.. real name)

  8. It takes a sorry human being to brand there kids based on the abilty to get free stuff… Yes, I’m saying those parents dont love there child.

  9. I have no idea what’s in a name that can ruin a person’s life. Those commenters must have had bad school experience.

Anyway, I just thought up of additional quest rewards for this MAJOR QUEST. You did say: “As for the rest of the loot, we’ll leave it as a surprise.”
    -the Skyrim statue
-best edition for each game, best if signed by developers (collector’s, GOTY, deluxe, etc..)
-Bethesda employee if Dovahkiin so desires in the future (amusing idea)

GL and I’m very happy for the baby boy!

  10. Congrats on your beautiful boy! Our son was born on 11/11/11 at 7:49am at a whooping 9lbs 10 1/2oz. I wish we knew about this contest me and the wife are big gamers and would have answered the call! Have many wonderful years ahead!!

  11. Unlike most of the commenters here, I actually know the parents of this baby. I hope me being informed does not disqualify me from an internet discussion! I have stayed at their house. They are very nice people, with a room full of board games, and a very cute and sweet little girl. And now a little boy to add to that as well.

Have they ruined the kid’s life, as some people say? I say: get a grip. I -have- been bullied as a child for years and I can honestly tell you that it’s a very damaging, very humiliating experience that never seems to end. It leaves cracks in the foundation on which you have to build your personality and your life, and I will take it with me for as long as I live. However, while I’ve been bullied for many things, my name was not one of them.

Bullies are insecure. They look for those who cannot or will not fight back so that they can feel and look strong. They need to tear down someone’s worth to secure their own. And the people who cannot or will not fight back, such as myself, often suffer from their own form of insecurity: a fear of offending, of not fitting in, of being different. It’s that fear that breeds submission, and it’s the submission that makes you such a safe and tempting target.

I would never have named my son Dovahkiin. Never. It’s hard to spell and it’s unusual. It stands out and invites scrutiny. My son would have a simple, every day name, and I would likely teach him to not stand out and not stand up, just the way I was, back then. But Dovahkiin (or “Tom” for short, I presume) has different parents. He has parents who think naming a child after a game character is FUN, and who will stand before the world to do just that, everyone be damned.

So honestly, I think he will be just fine. He has great, loving parents who will teach him what he needs to know to shine and, to stand out and to be an all-round good and loved person. It’s that fear of not fitting in you guys really ought to to worry about.

  12. I don’t think he’s going to get beat up over something as stupid as a name. You people clearly live in terrible areas or are just ignorant. What about all of the names that are considered foreign in the U.S.? There is a kid named Jun Yu in my school, and he’s the only person I know with that name. He doesn’t get bullied. In fact he’s quite popular.

  13. I love it! And with his last name it actually works!

I go by my middle name; so for anyone who says he will be teased; what about names like Apple, Asia, Thorafinn? I know kids in real life with those names and they own them. Rock them out and make them their own. And like someone has said; he can go by his middle name like myself and many others.

  14. i think Dovahkiin is a really cool name, even if there were not prizes for the 11/11/11 birthday! Congratulations on your new healthy Baby! Awesome! Such a lucky Baby! BTW Tom is a great middle name to go with it also! Happiness on U!

  15. I actually have no idea what that name means but seriously, I work with kids and have heard everything from “Princess Hawaii” to “A’meareaontee”. This kid will be fine. Call him Dove. I have a guy friend named Dove and he’s cool.

  16. “Hey Dovah, can you say Daddy?”
    “Dah!”
    “Yeah buddy, say Daddy!”
    “Roh Dah!”
    “Almost buddy, say Daddy!”
    “FOS ROH DAH!”

  17. Yo Dovahkiin, im very happy for ya, and imma let you finish, but Facebook is the worst name of all time! P.S: 5 bucks says he gets clinically diagnosed w/ depression in his teens due to all the shit hes gonna get in school. you two kinda just disgraced parents everywhere for a couple of video games. satan himself is envious of your cold hearts and pure indifference to the well-being of your son, well done! :)

  18. Why would it ruin his life? I have a cousin who was named Thunderboy, now that will probably get him some attention, but Dovahkiin? COME ON! That has got to be one of the coolest and most original names and yeah since he’s just born no one will probably rmember skyrim and does who DO they’ll probably form a clan named the blades and so on

  19. No doubt the appearance of a dragonborn at this time is not an accident. Your destiny is surely bound up with the return of the dragons.

  20. I would just like to point out to all of you who believe this kid’s life has been ruined that there are alot of worse names and dovahklin seems actually normal. Americans will probably just pass it off as a foreign name. It’s the celebrities that go screwing up kids names like pilot inspektor, Fifi Trixibelle, Kyd,Sage moonblood, blanket, blue angel, Moon Unit and Diva Thin Muffin, Moxie Crimefighter, Tu Morrow, Jermajesty, and my favorite..Audio science. But even with a normal name, I was teased as a child. There was a kid that used to go around calling me Gaybriel Alien because my name is Gabrielle Allen.

but apparently an egyptian named their daughter Facebook. And my high school teacher knew a woman that came over from Japan or china and when she went back home, she named her daughter the most beautiful name she’d heard in the english language, Diarrhea

  21. Dovahkiin! Dovahkiin!
    Naal ok zin los vahriin
Wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal
    Ahrk fin norok paal graan
    Fod nust hon zindro zaan
Dovahkiin Fah hin kogaan mu draal

    ALL HAIL DOVAHKIIN. DRAGONBORN!!

  22. Congrats to both parents. Its a cool name with a deep meaning :D

Here’s some skills for Dovahkiin to consider:

Heavy Armor – Fists of Steel = Boxing/Taekwondo/Karate/Wing Chun

    One Handed – Fencing

    Two Handed – Kendo

    P.S

They may help stop bullying too XD

  23. Dear Bethesda
My name is Hatch I’m a long time Vet of of your Glorious Fantasy RPG’s.
I started with Morowind and worked my way through the dlc. My next Quest was Conquering Oblivion and eventually with all the dlc and 2 years of loyalty I devoured Oblivion. Fallout 3 was my next feet and with my travers throughout Oblivion it was a cake walk all the dlc and achievements for Olivion and fallout 3. F.O.N.V. Was next and I’m almost done with the full game and achievements but Skyrim is here so I’m currently fased on it. My Brother Coupe and I had a request to use you fantastic story Telling and beautiful new engine think you could create a Space odyssey epic RPG that would be the best way for me to explain it with all your collective knollegde could combine the science of fallout with the magic and transfermation of Skyrim to a world to world space flyer with fast travel and sense of scale like your world class games you’ve already created that would be a good direction to go a futuristic syfi space odyssey.
    Thank You.
    Your Fans Hatch and Coupe

  24. @gstaff: It’d be really cool if Bethesda had a Bethblog channel on the XBOX Live Marketplace. Yep. It’d be pretty sick… Give me something new to comment on. PLEASE. FALLOUT 4. *explodes*

  25. named for a game character, seriously. he will get bullied like hell for that as a kid and young adults, at least. was it worth a few free games?
