  1. What’s next? Will they win an award from the International Academy of Humanure Composting for the best example of turning human feces into enormous profits for ZeniMax Media Inc?

  2. Jar Jar Blinks… lol… sorry but that is funny.

Humour aside, I think Skyrim deserves some of nominations, not all but some. So well done..

Ps 3 months and counting…. still waiting for that creation kit. Just a reminder.

  3. @giskard

P.S. 3 months and counting, and the PS3 version is still broken, with evidence that it will ever be fixed. Just a reminder.

These clowns don’t deserve a Developer of the Year award, when 1 out of 3 platform versions are completely, utterly, and pathetically broken.

    • I feel your pain Jonsey and often speak out about such things my self but we must also recognise that Skyrim is actually one of, if not the best game of 2012 otherwise we are being unfair to Beth.

I agree we should keep at them over bugs, but lets not ignore the good stuff whilst we do it.

Btw the PC version gets less attention than the PS3 version. So I really do know what you mean. And reloading an older save whilst playing an existing game DOES NOT reset the game correctly, some things appear done that have not been done in that save. Last time this effected me the thieves guild safe area door was open long before I got to that part of the quest.

On my forum we keep a bugs thread for tracking these things, we the current thread is for the current patch and there are a lot of issues that need fixing.

Also we have found it is helpful to share these bug experiences because sometimes one of us finds a work around. So drop by mate if you feel like it, the site is the engineering guild, we may be able to help each other.

One more thing, its a troll free zone bud so best behaviour.

  4. Congratulations Bethesda and id! Bethesda you most definitely deserve all those nominations! Thank you for Skyrim! It is by far one of the best games I have ever played. Now regarding id softwares RAGE… I’ll admit it was visually stunning and creative graphically, but the ending was way too short and abrupt. There was no real sense of accomplishment or closure. I’m sure you’ll figure it out because the game drew me in and no I didn’t need all that advertisement and hype. I was already going to play it, so please spend less on advertisements and endorsements, and more on polishing up your next game. Thank you.

  5. Congratulations Bethesda on another outstanding validation of the greatness and genius of your one of a kind never ending gaming creations.

Congratulations id Software and heres to better things in the future ever changeable like the artist’s clay.

Hail Bethesda! They took their blessings and made the most of them and continue to do so.

  6. Congratulations… Rage??
After playing with games using Crytek, Dice, Unreal, in different products. Something stinks here.

Is time to leave.. i hate false Gods

  8. Since Skyrim came out these blog posts have attracted hordes of trolls .. At a certain point I wonder why even bother letting people comment when you know 90% of them are just trying to flame.

  9. Wow, turn out the lights Nick and Gstaff, they’re attracting the trolls.

For the nominations: Congratulations! The team really deserves them. It’s a tight call for GOTY this year, with so many deserving nominees, but I’ll be amazed if you don’t win RPG of the Year and Achievement in Game Direction. I don’t know of any other developer who lavishes so much detail into their games.

For the PS3 users: Picture this – You work at Bethesda. You’ve just finished off Fallout 3 and Oblivion before that. There’s so much detail and scope in both of these games: NPCs have schedules; they’re massive open worlds; even bowls and spoons can be interacted with; that they barely run on consoles as it is. Now the fan base is clamouring for a new game.

They want it set in a bigger world, with a better graphics engine, with more NPCs on screen, with higher res textures, with better draw distances, with a dynamic shadow system, with better lighting effects, with more complex AI, with better combat and spell systems, with better magic effects, with more factions to join, and with dragons soaring the skies raining fire down wherever the hell they like. You have to make all this work on 6 year old hardware that barely ran Oblivion and Fallout 3.

The MINIMUM RAM requirement on PC is 2GB. If you have that, Skyrim will just about run. PS3 has 512 MB. And that 512 MB is split into four teeny tiny 128 MB twigs. That’s the problem. So next time someone tells you “I don’t actually think we need a new console generation yet.” SLAP THEM ACROSS THE FACE. TWICE. Skyrim doesn’t even run properly on the current gen, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it never does.

    • Not much of what you bring up is actually relevant. The game is complex? Sure, but that’s no excuse, it should still work. The PS3 has less RAM than a PC? Sure, but that’s no excuse – if you release a game for a certain platform (especially when it comes to consoles, which are all standardized and have strict guidelines) you damn well better make sure it actually works. Otherwise, don’t release it. AT ALL.

In other words: If Skyrim doesn’t even run properly on the current generation consoles, it should NEVER have been released on the current generation consoles in the first place. If still releasing the game when it doesn’t work (and as you put it, it might never will) is actually worthy of awards and nominations, I’d say those awards and nominations are indeed worth NOTHING.

    • if thats the case then they should never have ported to the ps3, but they got greedy and went for our cash
all us so called “trolls” want is the product we paid for 2months ago. none of us want to be hear flaming, id much rather be wandering around skyrim but i cant because “THEY RELEASED A FAULTY PRODUCT” and as soon as they fix it (if they can) ul see a lot less flaming here

      • You could have done the logical thing then with a “faulty product”. Get a refund. Most likely too late now, but nobody ever seems to want to exercise their consumer rights in situations like this. If it’s really as bad as I see people saying it is, you had a legitimate case from the get go.

Had this been done, by enough people, it might just have gotten someone’s attention. Who knows, do it enough times with enough bugware releases from enough companies and we could even reverse the trend of “release now, patch later” and actually have relatively bug-free games on launch day.

  10. Wow Beth, you still accepting awards? I thought you would be busy fixing the PS3 version of Skyrim.

Oh, yeah, of course, stupid me. What’s that you say? You have my money now? No reason to fix now?

Fingers crossed Beth/Zenimax go bankrupt after this stunt.

  11. There’s a lot of hate in the comments here? Why? No game is released perfect especially on the scale Skyrim is. You fools obviously don’t know or appreciate how much work goes into these games. I bet you won’t all be bitchin’ when the next patch and CK comes out. You’ll be sucking up to them like there’s no tomorrow.

    ;)

  12. Wow, my common flagging Beth up for accepting more awards for a broken game doesn’t get moderator approval.

Yet the troll comment by Moth gets approval almost instantly?

    Crooks.

  13. Just a reminder to everybody this is Beths own Blog not a Skyrim Official website news page. Blogs are used for the blog owner to talk about topics they are interested in, good blogs talk about things the readers want to hear too. But they should never be considered official news about something, its all just talk and opinion.

So share yours on each specific topic, that is what blogs are for.

    • Exactly .. Its not that I’m saying no one should complain .. but if your complaining to the wrong people then your just being an troll .. Its like protesting in front of a public library about not liking the governments stance on gay marriage or something .. Your just bothering the wrong people.

Just wright a complaint in the forums about your bugs or find a thread about the same bugs and announce your having the same issue .. the Staff will see how big the problem is and fix it when they get to the next patch .. they already said the bigger patches will be coming out later this month .. and seriously .. its been said a billion times but do you all realize how complicated this game is? .. there is a lot that can go wrong .. don’t get a stick up your arse about it guys.. You should have seen it coming if you know anything about these types of games.

  14. Fantastic! Now when are you going to get around to the real work of fixing the extremely broken PS3 version of Skyrim instead of blowing your own horn all the time?

  15. Great work bethesda! You deserve all the nominations you get! Don’t understand why you aren’t nominated for music and sound direction :/ Mark Lampert definately deserves a spot right there, as do Jeremy Soule. And although I know some people have problems with the ps3 version, I personally have experienced very little problems with it. The slowdown appears after I play for more than 4-5 hours at a time, and if it gets too heavy(Which rarely happens) I just reset the console, and it takes another 4-5 hours. Simple, don’t understand all the fuss about it, but then, maybe I’m just lucky :]

    • Skywin

Thats just fragged memory mate, happens when you play for a while and your machines ram is limited.

I agree about the music and sound, it is far superior to oblivion and does set the mood. It should have been nominated for that too.

  16. rage is an abomination,be careful not ruin TES series games bethesda like id and other studios did with their franchises.Skyrim lacks in the character animation part.
    What about CK?
    Any release dates?

  17. HAVE NONE OF PS3 USERS HEARD OF THE 1.4 PATCH? ITS GOING TO ADDREES THE PS3 ISSUES. i cant wait for it to work so you all feel like dicks for hating on bethesda.

  18. You are the only game company I will go out of my way to buy. It would be nice to see you hire some level designers with a little more literary and history base, some of the dialogue and quests are so hackneyed in Skyrim, and the class of the Easter Eggs, other than Blake and Shakespeare, yet to be noted by fans is just pathetic.

Whomever designed “Unfathomable Depths” deserve a promotion for allusions to obscure literature.

I suppose the philosophy of any corporation at the end of the day however is still: “You will find that all we care about down here is how much gold you can make us.”

Go with Ken Roston’s philosophy: “Everything must be a metaphor.” Never-the-less, after 200 hours on Skyrim, your company certainly deserves another game of the year.

Whether or not New Vegas made the most sales, it was the most emotionally moving game I’ve played, you have the mind of a history student to thank for that, not the mind of a finance major. Josh Sawyer’s team wrote heart and soul without once even bordering on didactic attitudes that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a game. It would be nice to see more of that cross over into The Elder Scrolls.

The Thalamor are too evil, so are the witches, Molag Bal’s quest is not nearly as disturbing as interactions with this Daedra should be, “Mourning Never Comes” was brilliantly disturbing. The Auger of Dunlain’s diatribe on “knowledge” sounds like it was written by a man who’s never read a book in his life. Whereas the parody of abstract philosophy in the Hall of Elements after the discovery of the Eye of Mangus was great.

Anyway, overall it was a very good job. I wish you had more people like Josh Sawyer making your games however, that man knows how to write the human heart.
