1.4 update now on Steam, Xbox LIVE (Updated)

Update 2/9: 1.4 update is now live on Xbox LIVE. PS3 update is looking good for today as well. If we get an update from Sony, we’ll let you know.

Today we’ve taken Skyrim’s 1.4 update out of beta and made it available for everyone on Steam. In addition to bug and quest fixes, 1.4 adds launcher support for the Skyrim Workshop. Currently we’re putting the final touches on the Creation Kit and Skyrim Workshop and will let everyone know as soon as they’re up.

As an update to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users, we’re submitting 1.4 to the console manufacturers this week. When these updates are available, we’ll let everyone know.

  • The Unusual Gem that was inside the Thalmor Embassy is now accessible after finishing “Diplomatic Immunity”
  • In “Breaching Security”, the quest token is no longer required to receive a fortune reading from Olava the Feeble
  • Fixed issue where Galmar would not complete Joining the Stormcloaks properly if “Season Unending” was an active quest
  • Fixed issue where starting “Season Unending” after finishing “Joining the Stormcloaks” would prevent “The Jagged Crown” from starting properly
  • Fixed issue where progressing through “Message to Whiterun” while “Season Unending” was still open would block progression for both quests
  • In “Arniel’s Endeavor”, fixed issue where a quest journal would trigger multiple times
  • In “Forbidden Legend”, the amulet fragment can no longer disappear after player leaves a dungeon without taking it

  • “Repairing the Phial” will start properly if player already has unmelting snow or mammoth tusk in their inventory
  • Finding Pantea’s Flute before speaking with Pantea no longer prevents her quest from updating

  • Clearing Knifepoint Ridge before starting “Boethiah’s Champion” no longer prevents quest from starting.

  1. You need to stop worrying about how the bread looks and fkx big issues like the quest a night to remember, it does not start and it prevents a achievement. This is the only glitch I have ever had on all my game saves, I have been posting about it for weeks,but all I see are fixes for bookshelves and bread and weapon cases and crap, you are only in the games houses for a few seconds to deposit items, stop helping people with OCD fixing little bugs, are you deaf dude, I have posted about my one quest glitch for weeks and still no response on if a night to remember will be fixed, I feel like everyone on here that mentions a small issue immediately gets your attention and help, my quest does not start and prevents a achievement, that should be top of the priority list, no one cares about how bread looks, listen to your fans that keep you guys rich and your family well fed. So many people lkst off many bugs and I see they appear on the fix list, whats the deal fix “a night to remember” man.

  2. Installed the 1.4 update on my 360 today. Largely great, however – one or two major-ish probs remain.

    I’m head of the Thieves Guild now and, in the quest ‘Under New Management’, I’m supposed to go get my Guild Leader armor from Tonilia. Unfortunately, all she says is that I can change a piece of my guild armor (which I sold as soon as I got it) and nothing else. I could be mistaken, but I’m sure this was one of the 1.4 fixes wasn’t it?

    • Oh. Scratch that – found a fix on my own. Turns out, in that room in the Thieves guild where they all practice, there’s a Thieves guild hood and gloves. Taking either of these to Tonilia will then open up all other dialog options.

      Now all we need is for those idiots in the Bards College to just take their damn instruments! :)

  3. When is the level 100 sneak glitch going to be fixed, it has destroyed my play style.

    i got to the point where i could pretty much sneak directly infront of a guard without him realising i was there… but then i hit level 100 and now im as hidden as a giant in a dress. bandits can see me coming from about 300 feet away!!!

  4. I’m off to try it now. I hope it solve my issue of my PS3 freezing after 5-10 minutes every time.
    On a side note, I read today that Bethesda held back the PS3 version from reviewers to keep the issues from coming to light(J. Parish, 5 Things to Fix in Skyrim, on 1Up.) If this is true then shame on you, Bethesda.

    • My understanding is that it was available if review sites wanted to shell out for it and the larger sites should have had no problem doing that. I’m sure Bethesda wanted to encourage review of the PC version as the graphic experience should be superior. Jumping right to the conclusion they were trying to hide something is..well… jumping.

  5. Have they fixed the bug where Pantea’s Flute and Finn’s Lute get stuck in the inventory? I know they don’t have an effect on the weight of your inventory but for some reason I silently get angry every time I see them stuck there.

  6. Why not fix Werewolves so their damage and defense scales properly at higher levels and so they can loot stuff? Or maybe fix the “Wall of ( )” destruction spells that at the moment don’t do anywhere near the damage the description states? Or just let us make our own damn spells like the other Elder Scrolls games?

  7. I got a Glitch, when I beat “no One Escapes Cidhna Mine” , When I returned to the Talos Shrine Located in Markarth, The Guard Ambush Is waiting for me…. Again. I kill them, and Now EVERY Guard in Markarth Stops to tell me that I’m Under Arrest, I can Tell them to take me to Cidhna Mines, then they Stop talking to me, 2 Seconds Later The Conversation Starts again, Its Worse with 2 guards, If I exit the Conversation They Attack Me….

I cant do the Thieves Guild Missions, I started Brynjolf’s Task (I Failed and was Caught) So He Asks me to Meet Him In the Ratway, One Problem, He NEVER Leaves his stand, and you know what Else? The Other Shop Keepers STILL think that Brynjolf is telling the Story, so I cant Shop In Riften Now.

So I had the “In “The Break of Dawn”, fixed rare instance where a quest object would spawn incorrectly on the Katariah during Hail Sithis” issue and when I updated with the patch it removed said item from my inventory, but left the quest progressed as if I still had it, thus breaking the quest again.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • Don’t know if it’ll work for everyone, but I loaded a save file prior to getting the quest item off the Katariah. It showed a new location for the item. I reloaded my original file and travelled to that location (even though it was not marked) and found the beacon there. YMMV.

Can you please fix the glitch with the conjuring master quest aka “conjuration ritual spell” where if a dragon or person is attacking you while the unound daedra is summoned and dissapears during the battle but when you try and summon he wont return allowing me to not be able to complete the quest

  11. And “In my time of need” I killed Kematu and he just lays there dead and the quest does not progress……….This crap is killing my Skyrim experience.

  12. What a disappointment. Unable to play last 2-3 weeks waiting on the PS3 patch that promised to finally fix the Cidhna Mines game-stopping glitch. But what was the fix? Guards and Madanach all still dead, all bodies still empty, escape tunnel still locked and accessible only with Madanach’s key which hasn’t respawned. Having escaped once, there remains no way out a second time. Other than, it appears, a full restart from the beginning? Cidhna Mines seems to be a PS3 game-killer only, correct? If so, where is the PS3-only refund, or will it take the PS3-only class action consumer fraud lawsuit?

  13. Well, I hate to complain, but after the install, my system actually started behaving worse. Froze twice and got very laggy. I will try again tomorrow – maybe it’s just not my day. I understand at least some of what the issues are with memory and all. However, it shouldn’t take a 94MB update to do a little purge management unless that space is being reserved for RAMming the disk. Which I am totally for if it would solve the problem. I’m sure Bethesda thought about that though.

  14. Literally from day one 11/11/11 my main character has been stuck unable to complete the companions quest which was the first thing I wanted to do. Thanks Bethesda! Hopefully the other broken quests work too but whatever I’m just so giddy about the companions quest!

  16. The game is better to play, it still has a few bugs but they are minor and inconsequent. Most of the fixs are working ok but it still fails to go forward in the quest Liberation of Skyrim, particularly in Liberate the Rift. I go to Rift Stormcloak Camp to talk to GALMAR. After i finish talking to him the quest does not advance, and that is a real bugger. I would love to play the game with another char, but by option and not because i`m forced to do so. Please fix this :(

  17. How about the bug in Elder knowledge quest? Urag gro-Shub does not have the dialogue option to continue the quest even though the arrow is pointing at him showing that he is the next checkpoint in the quest?

  18. Cool! Download it and its awesome patch. The problem. Is will i guys ever come out DLC content for skyrim like mount a dragon? Combat while riding a horse etc

  20. i got the 360 patch and it broke my level 80 game i had 1 quest to do what is bugged in marketh “forsworn forsworn conspiracy” also lost ALL my dragon masks what were in my chest in the theifs guild i only needed the wooden mask now i cant complete it.. i now made a new character so i can do it all over again this has stressed me out bigtime i only need 3 more acheivements to actually for the 1st time 100% acheivement a game im not happy about this 200+ hours i feel i wasted on this game.

    this bug with forsworn conspiracy quest is all over the internet on ign wiki your own forums etc when will this be fixed? another question why did all my stuff i put in the chest in the theifs guild disapeer i wish the mask couldnt be removed from inventory till it was complete and there was an official quest for them… that would make sense…

  21. I have read on the net in various places that there is a huge problem with Esbern and not being able to get into his room. I am stuck at this spot. I have already completed most of the Thieves Guild and cannot get him to open the door. There are comments with people replacing sound files to get this work, however, I am on the PS3. With this being such a big problem with the fact that I never get the option to tell Esbern what Delphine told me to, this sucks!!! This is my second post and imagine that, Bethesda never responded to my first. As much time as I have put into this game, I am now a level 52 and cannot even complete the main quest, I don’t believe I will ever buy another Elder Scrolls game. I am not restarting this game. I put the new patch 1.04 for the PS3 on last night, and nothing is fixed for the main quest. No response and no fix. I want my money back!

  24. After I got the patch the game has started to crash more often. Also it has bugged the whole beginning in the game. First dragon keeps flying around and never hits the tower so the game can’t go forward. Just awesome bugfixing again…

  25. It seems a little stunning to me that this wasn’t fixed and maybe i just didn’t read closely enough, but I’m having a rather serious issue. I have already completed all of the story line missions for the thieves guild and now that is keeping me from being able to return the guild to its former glory and receive the achievement attached to it. If I over looked this please just let me know. If not it really needs to be addressed.

  26. I’m having a problem on the Xbox 360, but I just don’t know if it’s a “patchable” one. Late into gameplay (and I’m saving on a flash drive) my items menu will start taking forever to load. Basically just the items and scrolling down and selecting. Also in searching chests and corpses. Any advice?

    Thanks for patching. Although, I do quite like the bookshelf duplication. 1 copy of “Optima Infinium” somehow turned into 100+. That was cool.

  28. The game was so incredibly ambitious, I understand how there could be so many problems. I can only imagine trying to do something of this scale. I can barely write a website.

    I was ready to *$##$ kill you guys when I bought this game and has so many problems, but it is a wonderful game, bugs or not. Thanks for the patch.

  29. Are there any plans to fix the trintiy restored bug? Anyone have any fixes or workarounds for the 360? I tried running through the quest again, but it will hang up on ‘talk to karliah’ with her just saying.. ‘umm’…

  30. Every piece of guild armor is in lockpicking room against back wall. Top of cupboard, on shelf of cupboard, and on top of tables.

    I’m level 50-something and life just seems so empty. She always refuses my advances. Even with the amulet of mara on, it seems everyone else is interested but her. Eternally hard to get. Her sarcastic comments give her so much personality that no one else will do! She’s been my companion the whole game play.

  33. After completing “A Chance Arrangement” I STILL cannot continue with the main quest line “A Cornered Rat”
    I even emailed Bethesda and their tech associate said it was a known issue and was being worked on BEFORE 1.4 came out.
    I’m really surprised that it still was not fixed in this patch. I don’t want to get involved with another character because, hell, it might happen to that one to.
    Complete game killer. I know they can’t fix everything at once, but the main quest line? Come on.

  34. What about the changing numbers quest where it took me to a inn in riften where the quest arrow that led me to a wooden crate on the upper levels where theres nothing and when the ledger is in the room behind the desk right when you enter? And you cant do anything to it.

  35. How about fixing when the game freezes so bad I have to unplug my ps3 and then wait for it to fix the files which can take 10 minutes-3 hrs! Theres no reason this game should do this to my ps3 but it does, and it’s dumb because I have a 320GB slim. Every time it happens I pray that bethesda hasn’t ruined my ps3… Please fix!   36. I installed the 1.4 patch for my PS3 and was all ready to finally play this game again. Then once the game loaded it was the same garbage I’ve been dealing with since I hit the 60hr play time. I am at the mission to join the companions and fight/train against Vilkas. I can’t do anything the lag is probably about 5 minutes behind my controller and it is only a quick 1 second movement. The music plays fine. I tried to wait probably 10 times now which took over an hour. I turned off auto save before, erased other save files and erased some other games and and their respective files and I still cant do nothing. So please tell me Bethesda what I need to do to get this game working????

  37. The Dremora are not respawning at all at the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon after i got Mehrunes’ Razor. I waited like 2 months (game time) and they never came back. Did they get rid of them in patch 1.4 because i never had this problem until after the release of it on Xbox360.
