The Dragonborn Comes in February (and Dawnguard & Hearthfire, too)

PC and PS3 fans, prepare to cast off. Next month, you will travel to Solstheim, home of Skyrim’s latest add-on, Dragonborn. PS3 fans can expect an expanded itinerary – with stops at Fort Dawnguard and Castle Volkihar – before heading back to the home of your dreams. Details below:

PC: On Tuesday, February 5th, Dragonborn will be available on Steam, including the English, French, Italian, Spanish and German versions of the content.

PlayStation 3: Dragonborn will be the first add-on arriving on PSN in February. Hearthfire will release next, followed by Dawnguard, and all three should be out in February. The 1.8 update will also release, just prior to Dragonborn. We’ll keep you posted as release dates get finalized both on our end and with Sony for each and its various languages. Last but not least, each one will be 50% off during their launch week on PSN.

Over the last year, it’s been a treat for us to work on new content for Skyrim, and we’re excited that it will soon be available for everyone to explore. Thanks for all your support and sharing your adventures with us.

I appreciate that you guys were working as hard as possible to bring the DLC to PS3 but only 50% off for a week? Fair enough, Dragonborn should be a paid bit of content (it being new and all), but you’d think with the delays it’d be a sign of good faith to extend the discount for the other DLCs permanently or even make Dawnguard free for a period of time(should note I’m an Xbox owner btw, just feel bad for PS3 owners).

While glad to have some news, I am annoyed that it’s so late, I figured in January when I had some free time on my hands I could play Dragonborn. But now its out in Feb and I’m going to be too busy to play it.

Having waited in high anticipation for the Dragonborn dlc for skyrim to be released on pc and it still not being released for 2 MONTHS after the microsoft exclusivity deal (which should have ended after the first 2 dlcs) released xbox version I thought I would write to you and hope you could answer a few questions for me:
1. Why is it 2 months late when the exclusivity deal should have ended?
2. Is there another exclusivity deal with microsoft?
3. If there is no new deal, after Dragonborn will all the dlcs be released concurrently, as they should have been from the beginning?
4. How do you think that pc gamers, your most loyal fanbase I might add, and ps3 users for that matter are feeling about Bethesda now after all these underhanded deals just so microsoft can stick its hand into the pot first?

Just so I’m not taken as a xbox hater, I own an xbox360, and have since 2005. I own Oblivion and all it’s dlcs on both pc and xbox, something I vowed not to repeat with Skyrim due to microsoft’s, as I saw it, underhanded money grabbing deal. I also own Morrowind on pc, and honestly i think you have a lot to learn from those days when consoles werent your main focus, and pc users could enjoy your varied offerings without waiting for a month, or more as the case is. But we are not petty, and happy to have you release the dlcs concurrently.

In summary please, please, please consider how jaded you are making the pc and ps3 communities with your blatant and unfair bias towards micro$oft. Please release your dlcs from now on concurrently, honestly most gamers would rather wait and everyone have a release in a few months, rather than wait while one group has a biased first grab.
Yours Loyally (for now),
Tom Walsh

Although I’m happy that it’s finally released, I don’t think I’m going to buy it. Sadly, after this bad experience with Bethesda, I truly believe that Skyrim will be my last Game from you all. I’m not as disappointed with You guys for taking this long to release the DLC as I am with the lack of information as to why it was this late. Yes I know there were errors in the game dealing with ps3, and I appreciate you guys trying to fix them all before releasing it, but Why were there glitches? Did you all not work out the ps3 version of the game FOR ps3 specifically, or was it just concentrated on xBox and pc and then you all rushed the ps3 version for the release date?
I have followed the dlc news for ps3 since Dawnguard and I feel like I know nothing of why it was this late. I will buy the DLC if I can find out what went wrong, since that seems to be my biggest deal with you all right now.

• Keith

Great news! And it’s good about the discount for PS3 users – the 7 month delay for DLC was atrocious.

One thing occurs to me though – The 50% discount only applies to the first week on PSN? That would be completely fair in my estimation with any other game, and almost any other developer with such a delay in getting content to one segment of their fans… but it creates a problem:

Bethesda have a history of releasing DLCs that typically totally mess up the game for PS3 users (FO3 & FO:NV). Many PS3 users have said publicly that they would prefer to wait and see if these DLCs will mess up their game too based on hearing what those who have downloaded them have to say about them… but doing so will leave them ineligible for the discount.

Plus there’s the matter of the quality of vanilla Skyrim on the PS3. It’s well known now that PS3 versions of the game were not released to reviewers before the game’s general release. This has led to (I suspect accurate) speculation that Bethesda knew about the problems with the PS3 version of the game (the major lag issues, glitches, etc.) but did not want any word of that to get out prior to release in case it affected sales. So you can see why I’m somewhat skeptical of the motivation for the discount here. Is it simply to ensure as many people purchase the DLC before the problems they cause for the game become apparent? I’d never ask this of any other company, and to be honest I’d love to take this at face value, as the show of good will it appears to be but… history has made me cynical.

• Caleb

• Robin

If you would’ve announced it two weeks ago, I’d be extatic. Didn’t think too much of it when Dawnguard didnt make it to PS3, nor when heartfire did not launch. However, I’ve been waiting so long for the ps3 dlc, I eventually lost hope and got tired of waiting. Being the fanboy I am, I bought the entire game plus dlc for the PC. This was one week ago. Cost me allmost 50 euros… Worst timing possible I guess.. Fact is I’ve got a collection of 150+ PS3 games, so I actually consider myself quite the (console)gamer. Fallout and Elderscrolls series are my favorite games by far. And I even have both series complete (only thing missing is Fallout tactics). But this whole PS3 DLC story is such a gigantic letdown that I have decided I will not buy any more of either series. You’ve provided me with a lot of fun Bethesda for which I thank you. Nevertheless, you’ve now lost a loyal fan.

Hopefully next time you will make sure your product is finished and working before shipping.

2 months… 2 months beth, 2 months… It was supposed to be a 1 month exclusive deal with Microsoft, a company, which for some reason, seemingly, wants me to separate my gaming from my PC… But I digress. Lets not fall into this trap again Beth…

I can understand that to some degree, but you should offer a cheaper price (like 15) for PC users for making us wait about 63 days for Dragonborn, even if it’s only on the release day. It still feels like us PC users who kept you going before Morrowind and especially oblivion on consoles made you bank, are being punished.

• FT

I expect Dragonborn as the final DLC (is not a critic about prices or time for a DLC) just my opinion. Is time to bring more fixes for users, especially for the PS3, and i am on PC. Since the final month of 2011 the entire picture about the game and developers is a huge disaster, very sad, with an entire year of negatives everywhere in 2012.

Money is very important in the business, but a positive legacy is fundamental to keep the franchise with a good receive. Let´s bring better ideas and a solid tech for the coming years, expurgue the bad soul of EA over Activision here.

Thanks for trying you best, you guys always end in a long fight. Good luck.

Pete’s right. If you want to play Dawnguard first, you’ll need to wait for it’s release date. You can simply purchase Dragonborn at 50% off when it releases, and wait to download & install it until after Dawnguard releases. Make sense?

While we released Dawnguard first on 360 and PC (it was developed first, after all) it was never the intention that it that any of them needed to be played in a particular — as is the case with side quests/faction quests in the original release of Skyrim.

20 bucks for pc in $USD. So it’s 20 on xbox, them having had it for 2 months, 20 on PC after a 63 day wait, and 10 on PS3 for having 63-70 day wait for it, and then the waiting on the other 2 addons which are also (and should be) half off for them.

May I inquire about the chances of a sale for the xbox versions of the dlc in the near future? I know we had a one day sale in new year’s eve, but a lot of people, such as me, weren’t able to access their systems on that rather unique date.

Cheers!

• someguy

£20 and it’s really not worth that, the main story is really short. I would just wait till March 29th for the steam easter sale and get it cheap. Bethesda have really over priced this one. :/

• Havoc121

Seriously thank you guys! Even though its pretty far away, knowing the date of the DLC is better than the paranoia and despair that had been slowly seeping into the forums throughout the several PC/PS3 release date posts.

• Havoc121

Yeah they aren’t meant to be played in any order, but if you still want to play it in order, just don’t start the quest, until Dawnguard is released. I hear that it may not be so easy to do that in Dragonborn, but you can always just start it go back and ignore it until you get Dawnguard right?

THANK YOU Bethesda, for continuing to work through the Skyrim PS3 issues and giving us access to the DLC that XBOX users have. It’s nice to know that you haven’t given up on us PS3 users and I’m kind of appalled at all the hate. Thanks again for giving us all the great adventures in Tamriel.

Well done for getting it done, must admit i’m amazed dawnguard and hearthfire will be done same month. Doesn’t tie in time taken with reason given to release dragonborn 1st as didn’t want us to wait longer, very strange but is done now hopefully.
questions, can you say what fixes done in patch yet or not? do you recommend starting new game after installing or will they work fine from save file?
Nice to have all at half price but does feel a bit off as xbox has or had on sale at half price dawnguard and hearthfire already.

• Kaszune

I don’t understand why PC users keep getting shafted on these DLC releases. We are the main reason that this series is what it is. Do you think that Skyrim would be what it is if not for the modding community and artwork that these incredibly talented PC players created in Morrowind and Oblivion? Not likely. The hard truth is that the PC version of The Elder Scrolls games are the backbone of this fanbase, and aside from a glitchy texture pack that MODS were necessary to fix when they were released it just feels a little disappointing. This isn’t me being ungrateful. I will wait in line and deal with it like everyone else and I understand how this opinion might come across as a little entitled, but I honestly don’t mean it like that in the slightest. I just wish the people would remember who uplifted these games into what they are today and treat us accordingly.

Well, I said that the only way Bethesda would truly redeem themselves was if they had a discount for PS3 users for the Skyrim DLCs.

Are you reading my mind? O.o

But, seriously, I appreciate the 50% off. It’s kinda like a “sorry guys, our bad” in the form of discounts. Bethesda has now just cemented its place in my ‘all time favorite companies’ list (not even video gaming companies, might I add)

Good show, old bean! Good show!

• Imperial Knight

Jeez, has the thought crossed any of these critics’ minds that Bethesda has used this time to FIX the issues on the PS3? They’re releasing the (working) content at 50% off and you’re still not happy. Be grateful, will you? If they released it any sooner you would have complained about bugs.

And PC players, like myself, we’re really not entitled to anything. Some have said that dragonborn should be half off because we had to wait a whole 63 days for it. Just relax. It’s coming. Besides, we have the best version of skyrim to begin with. We have the construction kit!

That would be an absolute disaster. Fallout is not the flagship of the house, TES is basically the DNA of BGS. Let’s try to be optimistic, credibility is a long lost point here. At least a good deal still in debate, discount.

It warms my heart to see Bethesda cutting the price of the DLC for the PS3 fans. At the same time, it bothers me that some of my fellow PC gamers have taken this opportunity to claim entitlement to a similar discount.

If you people live your lives expecting the world to bend over backwards for you, you’re always going to be disappointed. Instead, try looking at it this way: Skyrim was a great game, well worth the initial $60 investment by anyone’s standards. Any DLC that comes (if or when it comes, irrespective of price) is just icing on the cake.

It’s not about the world bending over backwards…it’s about a business making the right decisions, smart decisions. Something bethesda didn’t do. Having a twitter account has a source of PR is pretty pathetic and unprofessional. Not a lot of people get away with doing things ‘half assed’.

• Jason

I’ve cooled off and come to full understanding on the situation since my initial post. I think what some of the other PC people are upset about is, let’s set the other two addons aside for a moment (they should in my opinion be 50% off permanantly on PS3 with how bad they got treated) give or take a few days, PS3 has and will have waited about the same amount of time for Dragonborn as the PC users have, yet they’re getting it for half off if they buy it the week it comes out.

Looking only at Dragonborn, if you buy it release week here’s the standing:
On Xbox, you got it Dec 4, 2012 for $20.
On PS3, I’ll throw out an estimate of Feb 12th, 2013 for $10
On PC, Feb 5, 2012 for $20.

In terms of looking at it like that, the PC had just about as much wait as the PS3 crowd for the latest DLC, but get no special on it. I know it goes more into the length it took the other DLCs to come and I understand that, but I can see why other PC people are so cheesed off at this.

• little Jimmy

The real question is, since your finally releasing it.. is it going to be ‘playable’???? I don’t want to play the DLC’s if it crashes my game every 5 minutes. So I hope to god that if it took you this long to finally release it, that it better be crash/bug free as possibl.e

• Jonesy

You’re part right. I quit playing Skyrim almost a year ago, I still held on to it hoping Bethesda could fix it, but obviously they can’t. Right now I’m enjoying watching this trainwreck as it happens.

• Jonesy

You already know the answer. It’s a big fat NO. Once all the DLC’s are downloaded kiss your game playability goodbye.

• Jonesy

Or what little plability you could actually get out of the Ps3 version.

• Bob

Why I don’t trust the PS3 release info.

“and all three should be out in February”

See that red flag right there. “Should” isn’t “will”

No set street date, and your clever wording, makes me think something terrible will happen and it will have some reason to be delayed yet again. (Maybe a bit of rain, or mars is in the wrong alignment) You covered your bases yea, but you know “should” it not come out in February, that the hole you’ve all dug yourselves into will be deeper.

Hopefully for everyone involved, both fans, and yourselves that they do come out in Feb. Maybe just maybe, after all this, you’ll have learned “exclusives” are a outdated and bad practice. But after oblvion, fallout 3, new vegas, skyrim…….

• SiliconSynapsed

There’s no reason to see every favor to one group as a slight to another. Ask yourself: do you think some of these PC people would be as “upset” if Bethesda had simply given no one a discount? Of course not.

In either case they lost nothing relative to their baseline assumptions about how much the DLC was going to cost. So why bother getting upset about not getting something you had not expected to receive in the first place?

It’s like having your day ruined if you see someone stumble upon a briefcase full of money. You didn’t wake up expecting to find such a briefcase, so why not just be happy for the guy who found it?

• Narc780

Uhhhh yes we have, no matter how you look at it both PS3 and PC players have not had access to the dragonborn DLC for the same amount of time. I get them getting hearthfire and dawnguard for 50% off but why dragonborn? Doesn’t bode well for the goodwill to PC players who honestly supported this company in it’s beginnings.

• Korodic

You can’t download add-ons on a tuesday, and so you won’t buy another Bethesda game ever again? Do you realize how stupid that comment is? It is your own fault if you can’t download games on Tuesday’s for whatever reason that might be. That’s a YOU problem, not a Bethesda problem. I think it’s great what they are doing. After their troubles with the PS3 they are heavily discounting everything for them upon the release, not to mention fully catching them up to the other systems.

Be glad they care enough to release expansions in the first place. So ridiculous…

• Korodic

Guys, everyone but xbox has to wait a month for content because Bethesda currently has a deal with Microsoft. PS3 is getting discounted because they were waiting more than both xbox and PC for Dawnguard and Hearthfire combined. So the gesture is extremely kind, considering they technically are not obligated to release content to all platforms in the first place.

• Korodic

Well yeah, that’s true for anything you purchase. Especially when you pay in advance. You want to wait? It’s your right as a consumer to do so, you do not have to purchase a product the second it is released you know.

50% off for a week? Try 50% off for a year, the same amount of time it took you clowns to discover how to make a ps3 game. You release a game you apparently did not even test play (how else do you fail to discover lag caused BY PLAYING THE GAME for long hours, hey its not like this is an rpg, we wouldn’t be playing it for long hours anyway or anything) and offer the DLC you were unable to provide for like a year for half off for ONE WEEK? What a joke. Ive been playing since Morrowind and would rank TES as one of my favourite gaming experiences, but this entire thing has been such a blatant slap to the face. You basically released a game you knew was faulty, and 50% off for a single week is supposed to get me to buy this? Why on earth would I get this on release week? What incentive do I have to even trust that it will work as you say it will, considering the game itself did not? If you are only giving a discount on this crap for a week only it should be like 70+% off. You had your chance, ill be waiting for the next game, and sure as hell wont be playing the mmo. I know Bethesda games need to be tweaked and patched, but this was a truly pathetic display by a long standing company. Shame on every last one of you.

• josh

Fools… is not a favour or dedication, this is a already consumed product, the vanilla has bad root, needs attention on the PS3. The dlc is an small bonus for more cash, and problems sometimes. They have to fix this accident, in the worst case scenario, another wave of huge bugs… put Hearthfire and Dawnguard for a small price, like 5! one dlc is short and other is just.. horse armor. The Dragonborn shows more potential, if the entire tech, the game as a unity, have now a good update, i buy with no problems.

• Gabrielle

Finally releasing this DLC…you guys sure took your sweet time. Wasted $60 on a game that promised add on (content) on the case but favors one system over the other. Only 50% for the first week? Heartfire should be free.

• Lance

When you say “developed first”, do you mean it was intentional that it took this long to release on PS3 or was it just that much more difficult to do so, because that answer really bugs a lot of people and should be answered.

Did the company not allocate enough people to the project to have it done in a timely manner, was it simply the difficulty of porting it correctly to work on the PS3, or was it intentionally focused on Xbox and PC first because Microsoft pays the extra money?

• gstaff

No, I think you misunderstood my point. I was saying Dawnguard was “developed first” in reference to the other two DLCs, Hearthfire and Dragonborn.

There isn’t an official order in which users are intended to play Dawnguard, Dragonborn, or Hearthfire. It just happens that many players on Xbox 360 and PC played it first, because it was the first DLC available to them.

Hope that clears it up.

I have to give a ton of credit to game developers… they stoically endure a ridiculous amount of irrational QQing.

Instead of complaining that Dragonborn wasn’t released in January, I have been taking advantage of the gap and have been playing Morrowind in the meantime, taking advantage of the sweet Morrowind Overhaul 3.0. I never really gave the game much of a chance when it came out (I was busy with college stuff at the time), and with the graphic boosts provided by the Overhaul, it holds up quite well. Although alchemy is a tad rough.

I think he was being sarcastic about my disapproval of the date in which it comes out because I have too much to do that month to play Dragonborn.

When I was only stating I was annoyed at the timing, didn’t mean I wouldn’t buy it.

I’m going to buy it, not even going to wait for it to go on sale. It’s a clever marketing strategy, make the PC users wait so long that even though they could wait for it to go on sale they waited so long they can’t wait to get it and thus buy it full price.

Also helps them not lose so much money when they offer all 3 DLC for a reduced price on PS3 because more PC users will pay full price gladly having waited so long.

• cass

I’m super happy about this news. I think ps3 definatly deserves 50% off and i will be getting all of these asap. To all of you who think pc also deserves 50% off on dragonborn… STFU. You have dawnguard. You have hearthfire. You have the construction set. I mean seriously. You have all the FREE add on content that you could want. You don’t see ps3 users running around with lightsabers summoning giants and fighting zoidberg crabs and randy savage dragons. You know what we’ve been doing? Sitting around hoping that some day we’ll have something new to do. And to all of you who have been saying “well look at FO:NV. Hopefully the dlc doesn’t screw up skyrim like it did to new vegas.” you seem to forget that bethesda didn’t develop new vegas. In fact, they only got involved in the dlc in order to FIX the problems. So quit whining, and just be happy that we’re finally getting new content. And pc players, be happy that you have the most add on content of anyone. Don’t whine about something that you shouldn’t (and didn’t) expect in the first places.

I’m from Brazil to. All i know is that when Dawnguard came out it was R$ 39,99 reais. So i bet that will be the price for Dragonborn on the PC. As for the PSN money goes, i’m not sure how the prices work. But it might be around R$ 19,99 reais for PS3.

No, there is no Skyrim for the PSN Brazil. I bought the game in a store (Saraiva.com.br) back in 2011. Is a expensive game, still R$174 to R$211 in Reais, i think $85 to $103 in American dollars right now. The major part of the games are in english, i prefer actually, the audio fits better.

If you are from USA, use your PSN card for the american service.

Give them one of the greatest video games of all time and they’ll complain that the DLC took too long. Can’t win with these guys. Thank you for giving the world this awesome game that has enriched hundreds of hours of my life. Thank you for discounting this upcoming DLC that I’m sure will enrich thousands more. Bethesda, you’ve set the standard for excellence with Skyrim. Other developers dream of making games that can even contend with this instant classic.

Will you ever respond to the questions about how the dlcs will perform on the PS3? It would be great to know if we are to expect another glitchy add on that will leave the rest of the game near unplayable. After the FO disasters, I would rather not spend my money on a dlc that will ruin a game that has already been a disappointment due to the lag and multiple other issues associated to quests and general game play. Glad to hear they are actually being released even after a year, but find it hard to expect much after the product I’ve had for the last year still being loaded with issues that seem to never be considered or fixed.

It has nothing to do with a lack of commitment from Bethesda that it’s taken so long for the add-ons to be released onto the PSN. It is due to a lot of programming the languages and a PS3 itself operates very differently than a PC or the XBOX360. I’m thankful they’ve taken all this time to perfect any problems and get the game up to their standards of excellence. Bethesda rocks, and I am a devote fan of Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls. The 50% off is just a bonus to having the games I love.

• Sam

“each one will be 50% off during their launch week on PSN”

Isn’t that nice. How about you don’t make it MORE EXPENSIVE on PC for certain regions. Dawnguard was $25 in Australia vs $20 wherever else.
It’s not like PC also has to wait over 2 months from release for Dragonborn, and has to put up with buggy products because of the excuse that “we get mods so who cares about PC”. Very nice how Bethesda just doesn’t bother fixing problems, like with the HD texture pack or the PC UI, because they know that someone will mod it.

So sure why should we deserve any discount!

But why actually care about your customers? Just take Microsoft’s money in exchange for lowering the quality or availability of your games.

• stillnothappy

Yeah, this is not good news, it should have been out early this month. And I understand why ps3 gets 50% off after you screwed them over multiple times, but pc should get at least 25% or something, they had to wait 2 extra months as well which is RIDICULOUS. Anyways I promised not to buy this DLC if it didn’t come out after a certain date, and it didn’t so you have lost yet another customer. If this is how bethesda treats their customers then I have no further interest in purchasing any future products from that label, and I was originally planning on getting ESO as well, but if this is the way you treat your customers, it’s not happening. Good day =).

• stillnothappy

And yes I realize that ps3 got it worse than pc. But can you honestly say that it is fair that pc players have to pay the same amount as xbox players after waiting two months for this dlc that will have the same glitches and bugs that it did on Xbox? No it isn’t fair at all.(Not to mention the fact that they had to wait an additional month for both Dawnguard AND Hearthfire). Also, not being biased I actually play on ps3.

I can’t believe I’m seeing pc players complain because they had to wait….. Seriously at least you got dawnguard and hearthfire on top of all of the mods you can download. It’s right that ps3 players should get the discount, 50% off is fine with me. I plan on getting dragonborn and dawnguard but not hearthfire even with the discount to me it’s not worth $10 more like $5 but oh well.

• Stayler

Actually when Dawnguard came out i did not buy it. I was waiting so long that when they finally announced it’s PC launch, i just was not interested. But then after some time it started the Steam seals and i saw that it was half off so i ended up buying it. But who lost money in the end was Bethesda because if it came out at the same time as the Xbox version i would have bought it at full price. Maybe the same thing happened to other people as well. So i wonder if this deal with Microsoft is really worth it. Maybe it is that’s why they did it.

Gstaff, there’s something that bothers me ever since I read your blog. At the time I dismissed the impression but it’s coming back whatever I do.
It’s about your last sentence: “Over the last year, it’s been a treat for us to work on new content for Skyrim, and we’re excited that it will soon be available for everyone to explore. Wait till they go through the Dragonborn Files and the Patch 1.9, then we will see whats next.

Everytime we see a Patch come out, people find hidden Text in the Patch on a Future DLC, then it comes true. :woot:

Now heres a Link http://www.examiner.com/article/future-skyrim-dlc-supposedly-leaked-bethesda-developer-responds on 2 Possible DLC’s for Skyrim leaked. :ermm:
A few specific things that were mentioned is a few follower enhancements, including a vendor that sells special gear for your followers, and a special April 1 content update that reaches back to one of their previous games and proves that they aren’t above making fun of themselves.

Here’s the thing – spears can’t be added yet. At least not in the way they want to, which is to add an entirely new perk tree. Adding a perk tree means screwing over people with level 81 characters. So, they added the skill reset function in Dragonborn so that they can add spears in their next big DLC (Spears will make more sense in the context of that DLC anyway).

Here are 2 more paid DLC expansions planned – both of them true expansions like Dragonborn (one is a bit smaller, one is larger). Without giving a lot away, the next DLC will explore the beginnings of the Nords and Skyrim’s culture, as well as the Snow Elves and yes, even the Dwarves. The last DLC will involve the choosing of a new King of Skyrim and the war against the elves.
So is this Real or Fake, since everytime someone finds some Info about Skyrim and a Possible DLC, it comes True.

http://www.bethblog.com/2012/12/05/dragonborns-release/

Your impression is not ill, you just haven’t done your homework before sharing your “wisdom”. Yeah it sucks, I do it too, more than I realize. And here I go again:

My best guess is one or two minor DLCs, who knows three, to keep the excitement going and to give the major DLC more time, to make it a bit bigger. Like every two or three months a minor DLC, and around christmas a major DLC.

Because of this http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Hammerfell (from 4E 175-180) hammerfell would make a great setting for a DLC. However, it is huge. So I guess an area including: Bruma (with cloud ruler temple, probably in ruin), Red road (because of that battle), colovian highlands, and most important a major city: dragonstar.

Regarding the “Redguard” DLC rumour, I think it’s far more likely that Bethesda will soon be re-releasing the old TES Adventures game titled Redguard as a free digital download, as they did with Arena and Daggerfall.

Any Skyrim DLC is likely to take place in and around Skyrim. Though there’s always the potential of exploring Dragonstar on the Skyrim/Hammerfell I suppose.

Redguard was already done (The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard) in 1998 on PC-CD.
And it was awful.

• Squark

Was that AUD$25 or USD$25? It doesn’t make sense, because in effect the Euro was charged at €20 as well, and it’s always traded higher than the dollar, really… even out the prices proportionately.

• Squark

That makes no sense. The prices should be proportionate to current trade values. Australians had to pay $25 for it. Europeans have to pay €20 even though it worth more than the dollar.

• Squark

• Squark

Now that they’re fulfilling their promise, you’re jumping ship? Yeah. That makes LOADS of sense.

So, @gstaff, methinks the new Bonemold armor is bulkier and uglier than what it used to be; makes characters look a little too, well, bulky in the torso. Oh, and why not bring back the unisex dresses as well? They gave a certain, I don’t know, warrior/battle-ready look to the already fully armored, as opposed to just bare armor.

p.s I miss being able to equip certain armor pieces (like left or right pauldrons and greaves) individually.

The base game is running like legged pig with an inner ear infection as it is, adding bolting on these DLCs without the required optimisations is gong to make things even worse. So have those optimisations been done or is this a copy paste port stapled to a copy paste port?

It’s not that PS3 owners are ungrateful, merely that we have nothing be grateful for and after the 15 month long disaster that is Skyrim we have trust issues. So please, give some assurances that these much belated DLCs will be up to scratch or at least extend the discounts to allow those who wait for reviews to be able to receive this peace offering.

Bethesda better make Dragonborn 50% off for the PC too, it has been 2 months after the release. We all know the content of it. Why should we pay full price for something we know about? Not to even mention endless waiting.

50% off on 3 DLC is almost getting 2 of the DLC for free.

Example: Regular priced DLC would cost $20 for DG & DB and $5 for HF which would equal $45.

During the sale they’re 50% off, if you choose to buy them at that time. So the discounted price total would be $22.5 which is just over the cost of buying DB at the regular cost.

So, when you say PS3 users should get the other 2 for free…it’s very close to that, lol.

• His-Lips-Never-Lie

I agree. Morrowind was the best TES game. Oblivion was too candyish and Skyrim is too consolish. Not to even mention 1 – 2 months wait time for the PC DLCs which I find pathetic.

I’m personally EXCITED about this. It’s been so long, and finally the PS3 users are getting the DLC’s. It’s gonna make my bank account a bit empty with all three, but 50% off helps!

Assuming by lack of response to expected issues we are to be prepared for nothing but more issues. Makes the choice to sale the $60 game to GameStop for $7 an easy choice. Feel sorry for ps3 gamers who purchase it just to be disappointed at a game that has delivered nothing but disappointments. Kind of happy to say goodbye to my Bethesda days. This was all handled poorly and I believe the reason we are limited to a week of 50% off is just to make them a few more dollars. Them after numerous complaints come due to the issues, ps3 users can be assured that nothing will improve and that the pr will go silent again. Nothing more than disappointments on the horizon for PS3 users, but hey, this time you can get it half off.

The PS3 console has waited since August to receive any DLC, that is why PS3 users are getting all 3 DLCs for 50% off, Bethesda’s way of apologizing for dropping the ball.

Additionally, the PC can get mods, which basically is like having unlimited DLC.

• SaintDetenator

Good thing you get to choose if you want to play or not. I’m just happy that Dawnguard is definetly coming to the PS3, for a while the whispers were that it was not going to be on the PS3 at all.

What a joke. Ps3 fans are this excited for something that will be nothing more than a waste of money, much like the initial purchase of this game. Strange to see so many excited for a week of half off a half effort product. Someday all of those who claimed to never download this due to the hosing we received will realize their initial plans were the right plans. Don’t download this and be happy when you read how those that did fall for the money making ploy complain about how poorly it works and how bad it affects the poorly produced game they already have. Save yourself the time and money and avoid more let downs. Anyone continuing to support this on the ps3 console are ignorant and will find that out in February. Then again, if the past is any indication of the future, it may be another year before we get the “add ons” that were promised on the back of the case. This game, the company, and the pr are a complete joke. Except this fact and move on to something worth your money that delivers what it claims to produce in a timely manner. Bethesda=joke/scam. Enjoy another dose of the fo series.

@Gstaff: multiple inquiries about what to expect from ps3 dlcs. Maybe answer honestly on how we can expect garbage. More likely, ignore these questions and keep answering the ones that require little to no actual information. Congratulations. Must be Pete “you’ll know when I never know” Hines working this forum. One week of discounts mean one week for them to gather more money and forget about the ps3 community and the issues sure to follow. Great job Beth. Keep up the lack luster products. Keep making more fans abandon a once great franchise. Continue to fein great deals for what is truly another money making ploy. Why can’t people look back at the last year and realize that they should make a stand and boycott the utter garbage that you continue to distribute to your once ps3 fans. You people are pathetic.

• Gstaff=petehines

You are not alone, UK gets hammered with higher prices to. Am waiting to hear what price for ps3 will be in uk with interest. paid i think 7.99 pound for for each vegas good sized dlc so will go balistic if they double that and then say half price. Wont be much of an offer then will it , hope they don’t think we are that stupid to fall for that.
although more content is great to get but really its all a big unregulated rip of with devs charging more and more for sometimes little content. Needs international regulation to make it fair but greedy governments will want bigger slice of the action to so we all will pay more anyway.

Of course the money from Micro$oft is probably the real culprit, though we won’t know because there is still no explanation for the PC delay. I haven’t even decided if I’m interested in ESO, to be honest. I haven’t seen enough to decide if it’s interesting yet. I’m an Elder Scrolls fan but the Elder Scrolls name is not enough. Once we start seeing gameplay, I’ll be able to judge whether I want to play it. I love a lot of what I’ve seen, but I’m also not a huge multiplayer gamer. Are many Bethesda fans (at least those who visit this blog) more interested in single player gaming experiences? I am, but I’m probably not a typical gamer. Example – I haven’t played The Secret World yet. I’m a fan of Ragnar from TLJ and Dreamfall, and based on what I’ve seen, if TSW had been a single player game, I would have bought it at launch.

It’s not the first time that Bethesda “delay” the game (or content) on PC platform due to that “EVIL EXCLUSIVE money making” scheme! Vale, let’s see:
XBox players: have/had exclusivity that caused an outrage in the rest of the community.

PC players: got both DLCs after plus or minus a month and i’m 90% sure, will be getting Dragonborn before PS3 AND to mention that PC has the console, community support, and workshop, the possibilities are endless to them.

PS3: Got zip, zilch, and jack-squat ever since Dawnguard was first released to the XBox. We have no community support, no god-like functions of the PC, and we got our patches late. The only thing we had in terms of ANY DLC was the dramatic arrow hit-or-miss and a few more hand-to-hand kill cams.

Find out which one you are and behave accordingly, child.

or is there a chance we may luck out and get two within the same week?

• Sam

Both PS3 and PC had to wait approximately the same amount of time for Dragonborn.

Regardless, who cares about all this “HaHa you got it before me!!”?
PC and PS3 have both been fucked by Microsoft’s bribery so let’s not just turn this into a contest like 4 year olds shall we?

I personally would rather they just stop lowering the quality/availability of their games for money, more than I want a discount – but we all know that won’t happen.

• Sam

$25 USD I think, but I’m pretty sure that it was basically the same even after you convert it.

They literally could make every price on Steam display/charge the same in every region, and in USD without causing problems (just add a little thing beneath to show what that exchanges to); but they wouldn’t do this because the publishers won’t be happy.

They would rather make just a little more money, unfairly, than actually treat their customers well.

• Sam

“There making it 50% off during their launch week because they want to do something special for the PS3 players who got no DLC.”

No, they’re doing it because they have (rightfully) gotten really bad PR for all of this shit with the DLC. They just want to make a little extra money (on top of the bribes from Microsoft) by getting back some of the customers that they lost.

Of course they aren’t trying to “do something special for PS3 players”, how can you honestly believe that? Do you understand that companies don’t care about your feelings? Big companies like this only care about you as much as they can take your money.

• Sam

Will the bugs that the ps3 version of the game has had from launch be fixed with the 1.8 patch or do we have to battle our way through the programming just to battle our way through the dlc content? I am very relieved that we are finally getting the first 2 dlc’s but even half price is too much for a broken product that can’t be played. • Sam

I’m glad that at least PS3 gets the discount, but that doesn’t mean that PC doesn’t deserve anything.

Better yet: how about Bethesda stops selling out to Microsoft, and actually tries to make their games to the best of their ability – without being paid to not give their games to certain people?

Hahaha oh wow what am I thinking, that would never happen!!

• John

• Ps3. Users. Beware

50% off doesn’t mean a nice gesture towards ps3. 50% off means make more money for Bethesda before the ps3 community completely gives up. They will completely give up after playing the sure to be poor products that the dlcs undoubtedly will be. After that they know they will be losing an entire console’s support. So, why wouldn’t they give a discount for the first week. This will lead to many purchasing all of them in hopes that they actually work, which anyone who has played any of their games on the ps3 should know will not happen. These dlcs will ruin what little playability the game ever had for ps3 owners. Ps3 owners need to realize and consider the product we’ve had for over a year now. Why would you expect anything different? Have they fixed many of the issues that have been a problem since the release? No. Do they answer questions or give us any information that is accurate on our product? No. Do they make promises that they continuously fail to deliver? Yes. Expect more of the same and you won’t be disappointed. Expect something that is even half playable and be prepared to return to the forums to complain and beg for a fix or compensation. Then continue to wait with no answer or results. If you forget the past so easily and continue to feed them your money you are only prolonging the poor treatment that we’ve endured for far too long, for far too many games, with no compensation. Getting 50% off of these dlcs are like contracting herpes from a street walker and then them giving you Valtrex for 50% off. It may sound good, but the end result still sucks. Stand your ground and remember what you received for your $60. Don’t waste more money on something that you should have given up on this summer when they were leading us to believe we would receive a dlc soon. Let them continue to serve Microsoft, but don’t give them the satisfaction of receiving more of your money on a game that wasn’t worth half of the asking price when released. Bethesda is a complete joke and should never receive anymore money from any PS3 owner again. If you do waste your money, at least keep your complaints about all of the issues and problems it causes to yourself. You should know better.

• Jonesy

You’re forgetting the broken vanilla game. Everyone has forgotten that because of this stupid DLC debable, the main game is still broken so what do you think DLC is going to do? PC people please remember that the ps3 still has no official launch date and you do. If the past is to judge the future, ps3 could still miss this February release date and who knows what then. Maybe no game, maybe a Fallout repeat, maybe it gets shelved till the goty edition. Because ps3 user’s have seen this before, Bethesda has decided to give ps3 user’s an incentive to buy because of the past problems they have faced with their products. Yes there are rabid Skyrim fans and they would by it at any cost at any length of wait, but there are also those that have played the majority of the first release and shelved it. And with the glitches that were in that game from the day it released till today deem it not worth another $45 to play any longer. That’s why the incentive and it is only for a week not a permanent price reduction other thing is yours is basically glitch free or significantly less likely to be a buggy pos than what is handed to the ps3 users and I hope and pray that the ps3 version is completely operational because that is where I have already devoted Weeks worth of play because I am one of the rabid fans of this series

No, it doesn’t. There are no Australian import/export duties on digital games to be paid by anybody. That is a complete furphy. The regional pricing is a decision made by Beth and/or Steam. I don’t care who it is, I just want it to stop.

Decided it’s best not to answer the questions about how the DLC will perform or about the required optimisations to the main game. Wise move as no progress has been made on that front, but those with working memories remember how this played out when the much belated Fallout 3 DLCs were finally released.

Of course, if you send a review copy out a full week in advance for all three DLCs so we can see what sort of lemon you’re selling then the benefit of the doubt shall be yours, the question is will you do that?

• romXXII

Bethesda is my favourite game company and I hope one day I can maybe be a writer for one of their games. Though they have been a bit of a pain with the current problem with bringing the DLC to Ps3 users but now that they have finally started to bring it ps3 it is freaking AWESOME!!!
Hope Beth gives exact dates as to when the deal expires and when each dlc comes out.
THANKS BETHESDA

Now that the PC and PS3 are finally getting caught up with content, can we PLEASE fix the vampire baldness glitch already? I know, many people say it isn’t a big deal, but none of them devoted so many hours obtaining all the different thieves guild armor only to find it hideous to wear.

I know there are many issues that occur in the game, many of them that are actually game breaking, but I’d rather have dragons that fly backwards than a bald thief.

Few questions guys.
1. How much cash altogether for PS3’s Dawngaurd, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire?
2. Will getting the 3 pack of dlc’s on the PS3 Network use more memory than getting them on disc?
3. (Statement/Request) I’m not into “Mods” because they seem like cheating, but I am not opposed to reasonable “Mods” for PS3. / I would deeply appreciate you altering the spells system to be more like E.S. 4 Oblivion in regards to spell creation from existing spells. That was fun- for example, I made one called “Feeding Time” that would cast Paralyze and at the same time summon a Daedra. It made the game more personal and creative.
4. Would you guys be willing to offer a discount on the expanded Skyrim guide in hardcover for those of us who bought the original hardcover guide? I don’t know how that could work but it is a nice thought.
To close I would like to say thank you for releasing all this on PS3 because I was extremely disappointed to never have the add ons for Oblivion released for PS3. I really wanted the Wizard’s Tower.
Dated 1/23/13 Thanks guys, I’m Jesse.

please note that Bethesda is careful to use the word “should”… this makes me wonder if we’ll actually see the DLC on PS3 at all this month… the inide tip from people i know that work in marketing at MS is that MS has been paying Bethesda to keep Dawnguard exclusive for 360… my guess the promise of a Dawnguard release is another lie from hell to lure people into buying the other DLC in a hurry due to there only being a 50% discount for the 1st week… my guess is that we’ll NEVER see Dawnguard on PS3… Bethesda has been losing loyal customers due to them kissing MS’s butts… I say we should have a 50% discount on all 3 DLCs up until 1 week after the 3rd DLC is released… I seriously think bethesda is lying again… sorry Beth… you’ve been lying to us the whole time as to the real reason Dawnguard not being released… How can anyone trust what you say anymore…

The reason it is only a week is because after a week no ps3 user will waste there money buying a product that will be full of issues and nothing more than a waste. There’s an answer for you. No one else will answer this because they can’t be honest and tell you the truth. Know this and don’t waste your money. You’ve been warned.

• Sik Vikki

now… all PS3 owners do NOT get your hopes up about Dawnguard PS3 release… since the only thing bethesda says is that it “should” be available sometime in february. PLEASE NOTE: from a legalstandpoint “should” is by no means definitive and bethesda can state that even if they have ABSOLUTELY no intention of releasing Dawnguard for PS3… seems kinda fishy that they’re not releasing all 3 DLCs at same time… so I’m not buying ANY DLC until i actually see dawnguard on PSN store cause i’m up in the air as whether to buy a new PS3 (due to needing larger HDD) or a 360… I’d rather pay full price knoiwing that i got all 3 DLCs on one platform than buying DLC for PS3 and not being able to get Dawnguard. Understand Bethesda… My guess is that anywhere between 3/1 and 3/15 you’re going to post some BS reason why you can’t release Dawnguard on PS3… people please take note of this post… i sure hope bethesda proves me wrong… I made 5 50-dollar PSN card bets with people on my FL that we wouldn’t see Dawnguard anytime in 2013 and this was one week prior to 360 release date… NOW… none of them wanna bet against me that PS3 won’t see dawnguard by end of march…. BTW bethesda… ty for helping me get 250 dollars on my PSN wallet…

I’m a PC owner of the game and I don’t feel like I need a discount… I’ve been impatiently awaiting the release of Dragonborn (which hasn’t been out for that long anyway), but it’s whatever, I’m happy now that it will be out soon.

And dear god, PS3 people need to chill. 50% off the regular price is a very nice gesture. I own a PS3, but I know better than to get Bethesda games for it. You are not entitled to free DLC or cheap DLC just because you had to wait longer. Microsoft has been paying a lot of developers to give them DLC first, I don’t see Call of Duty or Tomb Raider fans throwing fits because Xbox 360 got it first.

• Amanda

So glad to hear that we’re finally getting all the DLCs on PS3. I’ve had no trouble waiting for the DLCs, since Skyrim already has so much to do and discover, but I’m relieved to hear we’re finally getting to experience them! Thank you so much Bethesda for your hard work and bringing us this fantastic game!

• Sik Vikki

more like PS3 will definitely see dragonborn in feb… maybe see hearthfire in feb… and most likely see some lameass post from Bethesda anywhere between 3/1 and 3/15 as to why they’re further delaying dawnguard… when they won’t simply admit that MS has unlimited exclusivity on dawnguard… seriously… don’t be disappointed when beth fails to deliver AGAIN… they’re nothing but a bunch of dicks… hence their slogan: the more you play with us, the bigger we get… people may think i’m crazy… but see what yall think when you see that “We deeply regret to inform you that the Dawnguard DLC for PS3 is still not performing up to our standards *blah-blah-blah*” post anywhere between early to mid march… I made 250 dollars the last time people bet against my predictions of a PS3 release delay… strangely… noone on my FL wants to bet me that PS3 will actually get dawnguard by end of march… maybe i should hedge the bet by saying we won’t get it by end of 2013… I’ll probably still winknowing how bethesda sold out to microsoft… little tip Bethesda… MICROSOFT EMPLOYEES DON’T CARE ABOUT NDA’S IN CONTRACTS…

Is it strange that all the “major issues” with sawnguard get fixed +heartfire issues when dragonborn is coming out? Thanks a lot of fullfilling ps3 gamers dreams about Skyrim dlcs. I got the game new with 30 euros and if cost per dlc is about 20 euros and you buy all three 50% off which makes 30 euros.how can be that 3 dlcs cost more than the base game? Is it worth it? • Ferret

I’m sorry, but we have a little problem here.
The issues for the DLC were Dawnguard and Hearthfire, not Dragonborn.

So essentially, with Xbox users you’re taking our money TWICE for DLC content (User purchase + $$$ from exclusivity), you sell the game + DLC through steam to PC users on sales. Now you insult your largest and highest revenue group by offering Dragonborn @ 50% as well, when it is releasing without issue and on time?

Piss poor business model that is.

Dint you say you were very pleased a couple days ago? Now your going on about how they are “PISS POOR BUSINESS MODELS”. I agree with you on that. But ps3 users have waited for this content. X-Boxes exclusivity got you that dlc almost a year ago and now ps3 users might not even seen it until x-box has already had it for a year. And you are right about that the problems were dawnguard and heartfire it’s taken them almost a year to “FIX”. Dragonborn is only 2 months late.

• Ferret

Sorry sweetheart, but you’re clearly missing the point. Beth did not have to release anything on PS3, yet they chose to.
Let’s review some facts here. The first two DLC’s had problems for PS3, which I wasn’t disagreeing about the price cut.

However, Dragonborn released relatively on schedule, without problems or compromises. Yet they are offering it at 50% as well to only PS3 players.

Let’s also review some basic facts:
Largest population- Xbox
Largest revenue console- Xbox
Game designed primary for- Xbox
Largest insult given to a console- Xbox

^^Not only is Beth taking our money TWICE(once from USER and once through exclusivity/Microsoft) they are offering a non-primary system discounts on a DLC that has ZERO issues for the platform. This is not good business, this is a poor business decision.

Clearly Beth is now taking lessons from EA in terms of money mongering.

Very disappointing Mr. Howard, very disappointing indeed.
