Now on Steam: Skyrim 1.9 (Update)

Update (3/18): Beginning today, Steam users can download the Skyrim 1.9 title update – featuring Legendary new features (see below) and new bug fixes. For console players out there, we’re hoping to release 1.9 later this month — we’ll keep you updated when we have specific dates.

NEW FEATURES

  • Legendary difficulty setting
  • Legendary Skills – Skills of 100 can be made Legendary. This will reset the skill to 15, return its Perks and allow the skill to affect leveling again. This effectively removes the overall level cap.

  • Fixed issue where “Glory of the Undead” would not start properly if player is in combat with Eorlund Gray-Mane
  • The white phial is no longer consumed if given to a follower
  • If player marries Aela, the “Totem of Hircine” quest will be available
  • Unused briar hearts can be dropped after finishing “The White Phial”
  • Fixed issue with paying off a crime against the Companions that prevented player from getting Companions quests properly
  • Thieves Guild caches are now properly enabled in the appropriate cities
  • The Dragon Infusion perk now works properly when taking Esbern’s Potion
  • Cragslane Cave properly resets if player receives a radiant quest to clear it out
  • Fixed rare issue with bounty quest objectives not properly clearing after completion
  • Gallus’ Encoded Journal is no longer a quest item after completing the Thieves Guild
  • In “No Stone Unturned” Vex will now accept Unusual Gems if you’ve collected them all before starting the quest
  • Vekel the Man now gives rewards for completing “Toying with The Dead”
  • Fixed rare issue with being unable to turn in stolen items in “The Litany of Larceny”
  • Fixed issue with followers becoming over-encumbered after being repeatedly rehired
  • Fixed rare issue with visiting Kynesgrove on horseback not progressing “A Blade in the Dark” properly
  • Fixed issue with receiving a duplicate radiant quest from a Jarl
  • Fixed conflict with clearing Driftshade Sanctuary before starting “Trouble in Skyrim”
  • Fixed issue with using shouts while in jail and having guards unlock the jail cell
  • Fixed rare issue with quest NPCs not properly moving to quest locations
  • Fixed issue with NPCs not selling master level spells
  • Fixed rare issue where player gets control locked outside the Thalmor Embassy at the start of “Diplomatic Immunity”

  • The Ebony Blade is now only improved by two handed perks

  • The Nord Hero Bow can now be improved

  • If you approach Frostmere Crypt from the north, “The Pale Lady” will start properly

  • Fixed rare issue where a dragon could appear in the Mind of a Madman realm and kill the player
  • Fixed instance where player could get stuck in Japhet’s Folly

  • Gharol can now properly train up to level 75

  • Reduced the instance of random dragon attacks after fast traveling post main quest
  • Recruited Blades now have appropriate dialogue while at Sky Haven Temple
  • Fixed rare issue where an incorrect dungeon could appear as a location during “Totems of Hircine”
  • Fixed rare instance in “Fetch me that Book” where books found before getting the quest would not be properly recognized

  • Fixed issues with Matching Set perk not working properly with certain pieces of armor

  • Fixed rare issue with swinging door becoming stuck and blocking an entrance in Volunruud
  • Imperial Light Armor can now be crafted
  • Fixed issue with “Vald’s Debt” where Vald was not leveled properly
  • Fixed issue with Vilkas not giving proper greeting after completing “Battle for Whiterun”
  • Fixed issue with respawning actors that were raised by using the Ritual Stone power
  • Fixed issue with the Ancient Knowledge perk not calculating properly
  • The Palace of Kings now has patrolling guards on upper floors
  • Reduce percentage chance of getting a werewolf loading screen while player is a werewolf
  • Pantea’s flute is no longer a quest item after completing “Pantea’s Flute”
  • Placing an unread Oghma Infinium on a bookshelf in the player’s house no longer allows the book to be reused again
  • Adjusted dialogue priority to improve chances of hearing more combat dialogue from certain NPC enemies
  • Fixed issue with falling damage on high difficulty levels
  • Fixed bad collision on certain clutter objects
  • Fixed rare instance of couriers who would appear only dressed in a hat

  2. Are Legendary skills only available with the Legendary difficulty setting?

    As for the rest of the list… taking notes from the U*P team? About time. The console players have needed bug fixes too. Good to see that they finally will!

      • when you set a skill to legendary do the skills you unlocked in the tree get relocked or are they still able to be use?

      • Aww you guys missed the Markarth home issue where if you do not buy the house when it is first offered you cannot ever get it again… but GREAT UPDATE none the less, i am still waiting for Verlet Physics objects, Flow Based Water Shader and Seasonal Foliage.

        • Would be nice if they add more stuff by the final release. I mean more of the Game Jam stuff, maybe First Person mode on those that don’t allow it too, as that can be immersion breaking for some. Still they release new content and do stuff like this, how can I ask for more. Bethesda has been my favorite since I first played Morrowind. (2002)

  3. Thank you for fixing so many issues!

    I found that in Dawnguard, there is a chance where if you contract Sanguine Vampiris from a vampire, you won’t be able to cure it because the game does not flag you having the disease, but you’re still set to vampire status after 3 days.

  4. What… is this??? A major Bugfix update? After over a year of the game being out? Took you freaking long enough, Beth! Looking forward to the new difficulty and level cap removal, though…. the game was way too easy on Master, especially once you get maxed out smithing, enchanting and alchemy. Hopefully it doesn’t screw anything else up.

  5. Regarding the Legendary Skills, do you keep the bonuses that you have gained from leveling up that skill, or are they reset as well?

    • Looks like you lose all progress in the ability (like you were a fresh character) along with the perk effects.

    • That’s the main thing I’m wondering. I think it means you keep your skill perks and can gain even more, but I’m a bit confused on it. If I lose all my perks there’s really no point to it. If I keep them, I’m going to LOVE this feature because I finally don’t have to pick and choose so much.

      • I believe either way there is a problem…

        If you could keep the perks then how would that affect leveling the second time?

        You would then have unlimited perk points and fill all the trees.

        But if you lose the perks within the skill, you also lose many levels worth of perk points.

  6. Is there a limit to the number of times you can go legendary? What I’m basically asking is – is it possible to gain ALL the perks eventually?

Everyone who said you guys didn’t care about Skyrim anymore or ps3 users needs to just sit down and be quiet. cause on the heels of the 3 Dlc in 3 weeks ,for half price each week,u you guys just did and then to follow it up with this HUGE bug fix update and some more goodies and unlocked level cap???WOW bethesda. Just WOW.THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

  8. Still no fix to the bug I hate the most w/ torches on a horse not appearing correctly. (the fire is in the hero’s crotch….) Guess that’s totally minor, but it’s on all people’s skyrim, not just a rare instance thing………. /shrug

  9. So. With Legendary. It resets the skill to 15. So, you are starting over? Seems nice to have the level cap removed, but I have to work all over again to re-raise my skill to 100? How does that work with the monsters I encounter? I’m level 106 with a score of 15 in my weapon or magic?

  10. First of all thanks for this update and the fixes/enhancements but I got a question, if you use the legendary option on your skill tree do you get for example with the heavy tree 12 perks returned to spend again and eventually get to level 251 and get all perks?

  11. So I’m not the only one who’s been seeing naked Couriers? I thought that was hilarious. “I have a message for you…” Oh realllly? ;)

    I was having trouble with Litany of Larceny because it wouldn’t take the East Empire Map, so it’ll be nice to have that fixed.

    And I’m glad you’re fixing the werewolf load screen; it’s not that big of a deal, but it was getting annoying seeing a werewolf on probably 1/4 of every load screen that came up, if not more.

    It looks like you’ve been working hard to fix a lot of little (and big) annoyances! Thanks! :)

    • I see the nearly nude couriers too… I thought it was just that they were always running around delivering letters that they would just do it like a Greek or something (in other words like Mercury)

    • Every time I saw the naked couriers, I just once wanted them to say “special delivery” and start dancing.

  12. Legendary Difficulty – Stealth Detection increased heavily on all enemies, and enemies heavily resistant to being stunned by Impact. Where is your god now to those who beat Master so “easily”.

  13. Can you do the Legendary skill process more than once? I ask that because if you can there will be no true level cap.

  14. Excellent, truly impressive bug fix list can’t wait till this patch is done.
    I’m only missing one thing, which has partially been fixed, a lot of items do no benefit from smithing perks, like most artifacts, the Skysteel dagger can’t be improved at all.

    If the next patch has a bug fix list 1/3 as long as this one, it would still be great :)

  15. I am very glad to see more bug fixes coming to the consoles. Am I the only one that still can’t get “Blood on the Ice” to trigger or have 100 “Amulets of Talos” that you can’t get rid of? I can’t even put a shrine to Talos in my Hearthfire home because they are all still marked as quest items.

    • You’re not the only one. I still check after every update, still doesn’t work. Oh well, never living in Windhelm.

    • chad try this… go to solitude, talk to szari roggvirs neice try to initiate the quest to get her mom to go back to the shire of talos if u do it and it works .. congrats… another one u can try is go to markarth go find the thalmor guys in the palace… speaking to him will activate a misc quest to find talos worship… complete that and hopefully ur issue will change :) gl

    • Its because you looted the amulet of the guy in Solitude. His quest makes the amulet stack and the bug of not letting you drop them.

    • I didn’t have any of those problems, but I did get the “Litany of Larceny” bug, and I hate the fact that you can’t get rid of the “Unusual Gems” unless you complete, not ONLY “No Stone Unturned, but at least one long quest line that has to be completed because one of the gems can only be accessed that way, and you have to do at least part of at least one other quest which might be incompatible with the character you’re playing. So, I have a couple characters with these gems stuck in their inventories because they are quest items and can’t be removed. Also, if they weighed nothing, it wouldn’t be such a big deal, but since I’m a “hunter-gatherer” type, extra encumbrance is a big deal. :^(

      • Just to reassure you: quest items DO weigh nothing, no matter how heavy their “weight” is displayed. If you remove everything from your character except for the quest items, and your encumbrance will be zero. Also, if you pick up another one, you should not see your encumbrance change.

    • Indeed, I’ve got that same problem. And because of it, I’m not able to build a shrine of Talos in the Cellar of my Hearthfire house

  17. I’ve had an issue for a long time where brynjolf won’t talk to me to allow me into the thieves guild no matter what I do (and I’ve done EVERYTHING I can think of). Is this finally gonna be fixed??

  18. This is one heck of a update!
    And Legendary settings…hmm…Pickpocketing combined with these Legendary reset settings will make for one heck of an abusing technique to increase your levels!
    What are the damage stats for the Legendary setting by the way? Player gives damage x0.25 and takes x4 damage?

  20. No fix for “Waking Nightmare” when Erandur disappears, his marker points to an unreachable point in the temple, and the quest cannot be finished? I wish you guys could fix that, for PC there is a workaround but for consoles we can’t do anything.

    Dissapointed though that enemy dropped weapons not despawning doesnt seem to be fixed.
    The most annoying part of Skyrim has got to be the requirement to janitor after every fight in order to keep the game playable on savegames with higher playtimes.
    Please, please, fix enemy weapons not despawning.

  24. Nice patch. Love all the fixes. Now, if only I could go in the water on the PS3 without the entire system crashing. Yeah, that’s a big one.

  25. So do we keep the skill bonuses after we reset them or not ?
    Because if we don’t then this is only beneficial for magicka health and stamina.

  26. The part about perks is kind of ambiguous(or maybe my brain just isn’t firing on all cylinders yet this early in the morning).
    Does this mean we’ll be able to exceed the current limit on perk points, or is this just going to be resetting our perk tree?
    Also boo no more infinitum duping….

  27. I have problemas in ps3 after install the 3 DLC, in the missions of companions i can ask jobs to farkas when i finish the mission the glory of the dead, and when i buy mi home in falkreath i have probles whit items that disappear and the NPC freeze and dont move

    • Consoles are necessary evil. But I think they might die out. Have you seen specs of PS IV? Nothing spectacular on them. PS III was at least ahead of it’s time. PS IV is like todays slightly above mainstream PC…

      • Oh get over it and yourself, you can keep dreaming that consoles will fade away, but it will never happen. The market for them is too great compared to PC gaming and the crap microsoft is pulling with windows 8. many developers are going to look more to consoles and alternative operating systems.

      • That’s true, though 8GB of DDR5 is certainly intriguing. Meanwhile, though, I’m happy with my 8GB DDR3 :P

        But, yes, consoles do seem like they’re trending toward low-to-mid range gaming PCs in terms of specs.

      Yeah, Elder Scrolls began on PC, but you don’t sound like you actually know what you’re talking about. If you had played Arena and Daggerfall on DOS about twenty years ago, you’d just want to BURN YOUR OWN PC to the ground. Yeah… best on PC indeed.

  29. I think the book glitch should stay. People will find some way to mod it anyways if not already (ill have to go find one) other than that sounds like a great update

Another bug that might need addressing is not being able to complete the Thieves Guild quest line properly if you haven’t already completed the special tasks in each major city given by both Vex and Delvin. This is a well known issue, and an annoying bug that’s even required me to restart my entire game to avoid it from happening. Thank you for all the bug-fixes thus far though, as harsh as the community can be sometimes, we are only showing our love for one of the best games in history and we all thank you very much for your continued support. Thank you again :)

  31. I like these fixes, but wish that killed shopkeepers would be replaced. Between dragons and vampires, a town can get really messed up for selling and buying items.
