Moving to our next adventure

Skyrim has been a labor of love for us since we started designing it in 2006. We never imagined it would become the phenomenon it has. And that is because of you, the fans. It was all of you who made it a success. We can’t thank you enough for embracing the game, spreading the word, and making it your own.

For the last year and a half we’ve been working on new content for Skyrim; from the game updates, Creation Kit, Steam Workshop, Kinect support, to DLCs. Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet.

Even though we’re moving on, we’ll still have minor updates to Skyrim as needed. We’ve invested so much of ourselves into Skyrim and will never truly say goodbye to it.

We loved hearing your stories, your in-game triumphs, and your suggestions. One thing stuck out to us through those emails, letters, and postings. And that is – video games matter. They’re as important to you as they are to us. It’s not just about entertainment, it’s about your time. And you chose to spend it with our game.

Thank you again for all your support. We hope you stay engaged in the gaming community here and elsewhere. Keep spreading the word. Games are the world’s best entertainment because they can do what other forms cannot – fill you with the wonder of exploration and the pride of accomplishment. We look forward to sharing our next adventure with you.

Until next time,

Bethesda Game Studios

  3. Guys, thanks for all the work on Skyrim, I appreciate the comments above about more and more and more for that game, but having played the last three and seen the massive changes and improvements, can’t wait until the next one.

  4. I thought that we’d at least get name a High King or wage war against the thalmor. Really annoyed, I had hopes for much more DLCs. It’s not like ye ran out of stuff to put in the DLCs.

    • I agree we need more dlc cause oblivion & fallout had way more dlc’s and im very unhappy with the game ending without an high king we did all that work for the stormcloaks and don’t get to see a new high king wtf and no info on dwarven at lease bring them back as an playable character so please one more dlc with the thalmor and nords battle cause my whiterun is still on fire and i wish to see new high king please thanks for making the best rpg since fallout 3!

  5. What about Dec. 3rd: “As far as other DLCs, we’re not done working on Skyrim content. We’ll let everyone know when we have new details/info to share.”

Thanks for the let down Bethesda, hopefully you will support your next project with more than 3 DLC and false hype, half-truths and doublespeak.

  6. This is so sad, i would like to have at least one more dlc where skyrim gets a new high king/queen and where the thalmor is driven out of skyrim.

I started my journey with downloading skyrim illegal from the pirate bay, and when dawnguard came out i was like hmm i might buy the game, and when dragonborn came out i was really happy, so happy that i installed windows again and bought skyrim and all the dlc’s just to play skyrim. Its not every day i buy a game, sad enough.

But i would like to thank Bethseda for this awesome game and if the next elderscrolls is as good as skyrim i will defiantly buy that to and all the dlc’s.

    // Kimmy from Sweden.

  7. Could you guys at least release an update/fix for the Spell Aborption bugs. It confilicts with some Conjuration spells causing the summoned Atronachs to be absorbed. USEP has a full detailed description of the bug. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Spell_Absorption Since the XBOX 360 is not able to be modded. We cant use any of the communities mods for the fix. Would you guys please release a fix for it?

  8. Personally I’ve always enjoyed Skyrim. I can’t tell you the countless hours I’ve played it. So many that I only just realized recently there were DLC’s for it and purchased them all myself.

From a gamers perspective I am saddened that there’s no more content coming for Skyrim. Personally I’d jump at the chance to get some more good stuff for the game into it. It is something to think about that the other games get 4 DLC’s and Skyrim only gets 3.

I’d like to see the stuff be able to download so that players can make their own adventures since there will be no more official DLC’s. It may be out there already, but I’m not able to find it so…

Anyways, good luck with your next project, may it be as epic as this one is still.

  9. ok, I know how you can do multiplayer. if anyone has ever played monster hunter for psp, youll know what im talking about. they set it up so that you go to the tavern and read the bounty board or whatever, and you join a party that is waiting for a player or whatever. its a great idea. just auto load multiple players in a single dungeon and clear it. then go back to single player. easy enough. if Nintendo can get it right so can you. great job on skyrim, first Bethesda game I like. don’t screw it up for your fans. listen to the majority. we want more for TES5

    thanks
    GT- DIRTY V THIRTY

  10. Bethesda you should help the fans of Marroblivion who are remaking Marrowind and Oblivion for Skyrim which is definaly big time for money making for Bethesda and I hope you’ll contact them please?

  11. This is sad news, I was hoping that you guys could create one last, great DLC. Shouldn’t the dragonborn be the high king? s/he is by far the most powerful being in the land and it would be great fun to have a storyline go around as the player as king. Please just one more?

  12. Look fellow Skyrim fans in the comments, I love Skyrim too, but we have to be realistic here. Bethesda now has an ENTIRELY different fanbase with the Fallout franchise. I’m a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls, but I’m also a huge fan of Fallout. So, I think it’s pretty selfish of people to be slamming Bethesda for making this very difficult, but completely necessary decision.

You guys have to realize, Bethesda hasn’t released a Fallout game or DLC in support of Fallout for several YEARS!! They have other fans and other commitments they are expected to fulfill, when it pertains to the Fallout RPG franchise. So, they’ve obviously gotten to the point now where they’ve had to direct the entire studios attention to the development of Fallout 4. (Yes I’m aware Fallout 4 hasn’t been OFFICIALLY announced, but what else could this project be? The timing is right and given the recent leaks of info we’ve had, this project is likely Fallout 4)

So, as I’ve said, it’s simply not fair to the Fallout fans to throw them to the back burner for a whole other year so they can make another DLC for Skyrim. Bethesda’s probably realized this as well, hence the somewhat sudden halt to further development of Skyrim.

So, all in all, I anticipate their next project and am extremely excited for Fallout 4. I’m excited for the next Elder Scrolls title too, but it’s the Fallout franchises turn for a title to be developed and released to it’s faithful and loyal fans, (Which I’m one of.)

Thank You Bethesda for your BRILLIANT work on these world class top tier RPG’s like TES and Fallout. Good Luck on Fallout 4, I’m sure you’ll do great and will make all your fans happy (Including me). Can’t wait to go back to exploding heads in V.A.T.S with my Combat Shotgun while jamming to old-school tunes on the radio!!

  13. Elder Scrolls fan since I was a teenager. I’m now an adult. (whatever that means)

Please don’t stop making content for Skyrim – at least give me a wizard’s tower of somekind! I feel a total disconnect from the storyline and a complete lack of closure and finality. I know all good things must come to an end and this game has been VERY good – but come out with one last thing. Consider it… there’s a very real sense of a lack of completion in terms of story development. Give me a sense of finality.

Let me know I’m going to be alright. Hold me tightly in your strong Nord-arms and whisper sweet endearments in my ear as I gently drift off to Sovngarde.

I am just devastated; seriously… I am entering an intense period of mourning.

      • Maybe they’ll change their minds… Wouldn’t that be nice? You would think, considering the copious and fervent response from all of the fans; this would somehow lead them to the cogent conclusion – “oh, what the heck; let’s give ‘em one more DLC.”

There just seems to be so many loose ends: the obscenely fragile and increasingly tenuous ceasefire with the Aldmeri Dominion.the inevitable confrontation with the Thalmor Jurisprudence (or lack thereof), the increasingly fragile and internally collapsing Empire, the three actual Elder Scrolls being carried around in your inventory (absurdly enough), the resurrection of the Blades, the assassination of Emperor Mede ala the Dark Brotherhood, the Stormcloak-Rebllion (Long live the Empire), and the possible reintroduction of the surviving houses of Morrowind. Morang Tong notwithstanding! That’s just off the top of my head.

        Simply shameful.

      • No offence gstaff but in my opinion (and I have a feeling that maaaany people would agree with me) whoever made a decision to cancel all further Skyrim dlc is real economical ‘genius’ and don’t let me start with raging how much from fan base commitment stand of view is that giant spit in the face….ahhhh at least I have learned one thing during this whole mess related to Skyrim itself and it’s dlcs(I played game a lot but there have been so many areas that could have been improved on..) and that is….never expect from game makers to be more interested in making that game better if it won’t appeal to their boss and marketing team …..it’s like expecting from bank to have some understandings for anyone’s hard life…you have officialy became EA…coronation will be held in Pete Hine’s living room where he will be watching some 6 feet under league team and tweeting about everything not Skyrim related and Todd Howard will be playing Skyrim in which he will use spears(in the background Tell me lies song will play) and rest of talented and inovative team will be chuckled and forced to watch Sims 3 until they don’t release how next Fallout Sims is supposed to look like -.- ahahhahah what an irony…I just released that Sims expansins were more meaty and with more fetures than Skyrim’s…..-.- what happend with: WE WILL MAKE DLCS As LONG AS PEOPLE ARE WEALING TO BUY and what a coincidence that you stopped making dlcs when a xbox exclusion crap weared off hmmmmmmm conspiracy theory or you would voting for cispa law (I guess you’re familiar with it) immediatly after Boston attack when public is afraid for it’s safety is also coincidence ….anyway I have completly wandered off topic so I wil just say and I really mean it : farewell Beth, this was our final adventure….and just think for a second though I doubt it…have you made any mistake when you have saddened so many people and when all these people are feeling let down…I would say that you have made mistakes…more than a few…..P.S. time to end this misery and stop following anything Beth related…it will save me a lot of nerves…I dunno but I guess you saw in last 700 post how much this game means to us and how much we disagree with your decision()…but then you would have to care…so nope I guess….Skyrim(Bethesda)- case closed as far as I am concerned…….

          • I have an idea. Make a spin off company for Elder Scrolls games only. Then hire me to help create the greatest games ever….eh, what do u think? I would work for free….for a while. A man’s gotta eat, you know what I’m sayin!…..I’m sooo lonely.

          • Even if you guys never had it planned you have to admit that the word choice made by a few of your major representatives was misleading. That, at least is quite apparent. Also, I’m with Severus Magius here, I’d love to work on the lore for you guys and there is a super talented modding community who could contribute to further dlc.

          • I agree with Severus Magius as well with the modders should have their stuff on future DLCs which would be good like on nexus and on steam

          • Guys, working for free is very, very shady at best.
Everybody looks at you with distrustful eyes as though you’re just out for company secrets and free stuff.

    • if you need 3 skills to make it even spears for combat unarmed for stealth and dovahkin/shout for magic there one for each specialization

  14. What happened to the other 2 DLC we were promised? Are they finished, and are awaiting release, or are they just gone into the scrap bin?

  15. I never care enough about a game, publisher, or developer, to bother to leave comments. Somehow this game is different. I started Morrowind, Oblivion, All the Fallouts games but never, ever was into it enough to want to finish it. Thank you Bethesda for taking over 200 hours of my life, allowing it to be cool enough that the wife and kids don’t mind watching or me playing it. While other folks seem to be disappointed with it ending I want to express a heartfelt appreciation for an experience that was truly remarkable, and see this ending as an opportunity for a new badass beginning!

  16. i know its been said to death, but really dissappointed. after reading all the posts (most of them being against the “ending” of skyrim) why would you make such a decision? why the total cliffhanger and the giant middle finger to the fans (like me) who bought the game and every dlc since the day it came out? wow…see, here i thought you cared about the fans…and with such an outcry for more (or at least one more dlc) why not? skyrim was a big part of my video game life and i felt its incomplete. i dont really care about yer “next game” i wanted at the very least some closure with the dominion and the election of a new high king. not sure i wanna invest more time in another game if this is how you leave your fans.

  17. ONE MORE DLC !
THEY SAID IT WILL BE “REDGUARD”
    OR
TO CONCLUDE THE CIVIL WAR AT LEAST

    ONE MORE DLC !
    ONE MORE DLC !
    ONE MORE DLC !
    ONE MORE DLC !
    ONE MORE DLC !

    ONE MORE DLC !

  18. I don’t understand Bethesda. Clearly there’s a large outcry from your fans to continue with Skyrim; and said fans are sorely disappointed. So why not at least give the fans the one last triumphant DLC that they are all begging for? I understand that you have another project in motion and that’s great. But while my understanding of the internal mechanizations of both Bethsoft at large and the industry is somewhat limited, I fail to see why you guys would ignore the wishes of such a large and important portion of your customer base. It seems apparent that making a satisfying, conclusive DLC for Skyrim would not only be majorly profitable monetarily but also would show that your priorities lie in satisfying the fans who, in no small part, are a major factor in your continued success. This, in long term, will cause these fans to feel better about returning to purchase your games in the future.

Perhaps asking for one more DLC is asking to much, and if so you should make clear why that is. But while it may not have been anyone’s intention, comments made by representatives of both Bethsoft and Bethesda Studios could have been interpreted as misleading in regards to future Skyrim content. As opposed to disregarding that fact by aggrandizing the support that was provided to Skyrim (which I’m sure the fans do appreciate) it may be more prudent to simply give and honest explanation for why you chose to discontinue the adding of content and humbly post an apology for those fans who are disappointed or upset. It would simply show humility.

That’s just my two cents, but I do hope there’s a chance it’s taken into consideration; I sincerely thank anyone out there who takes the time to read it.

    • The joke is, Bethesda and Zenimax knew this would be the reaction before they released this statement. Which means, the higher-ups just don’t seem to care. They’ve made enough money off skyrim and financially speaking, it’s time to make another game. Consumers are rarely valued when they’re in the millions.

      • Much appreciated guys. And agreed Wales, but there are publishers out their that put the satisfaction of their fans and consumers first. I guess I just never wanted to have to file Bethsoft under “another Triple A publisher.” A stand out publisher mind, but not one that prioritizes its fan-base.

  19. WHYYYY !! :( Oblivion was My baby for almost 3 years until Skyrim came I have NEVER Enjoy a game of Elder Scrolls soooo much I LOVE SKYRIM Please Just make 1 last DLC.

  20. No Fallout 4? I’m disappointed. There’s going to be another Fallout, right? Or am I just wasting time waiting and hoping for it to come out? In my opinion, Fallout is the best game series made by Bethesda, but I’m sure there are others who disagree. When I heard that Bethesda was working on a new game, I was almost for sure it was Fallout, but now, I guess not.

    • 2015-2017
what i want to know is what are we going to see Three Dog in??
well that is if it didn’t get canceled.. Since it isn’t fallout 4
      they are working on.

  21. Terrible. Taking a leaf out of Bioware’s promise breaking book have we? I’m a developer, and the choices passed down from the top to do things like this annoy the hell out of me. You work for years to create a game like this, just to have a gigantic middle finger to the fans come at the end. Don’t get me wrong, skyrim is an amazing game. But you set your consumers up for expecting a conclusion, then spit in their face. You have ruined one of the greatest games ever made, because you haven’t finished it. If you make an ultimate edition, I will actually laugh my arse off because it’ll be a joke. Obsidian did a better job with DLC, and don’t have half the talent you do.

  22. I was hopping for a cyrodiil dlc and Hammerfell dlc :S
Guess i can Go back to Morrowind and Oblivion ;)
And i Think i ned to mod Now.

  24. Ok here is business plan for the FINAL DLC for skyrim.

Take the size of the team that has started the next project before you moved the the rest of the team and remove them back to skyrims final dlc. than you will have a majority of the team still working on your next big project while keeping YOUR Fans happy with an upcoming dlc for skyrim. once it is finished you remove them back to project. Simple. 3-4 months tops and you know it.

And to tell you the truth… if it meant that the dlc cost an extra $5 – 10 than the others i would gladly pay it as im sure any true TES fan would, just for one final conclusion to skyrim. I mean where would the Lord of the Rings ended up if it didnt have Return Of The King in the movie trilogy….

    ONE MORE DLC!!!
    ONE MORE DLC!!!

  25. Good. Skyrim was a disappointing addition to a once grand series. Let it die and rebuild a better TES from it’s ashes.

  27. It seems that the original plan was to release more DLC content, but because of financial reasons (maybe because of the PlayStation debacle, or low sales from the Dragonborn DLC?) they decided to drop Skyrim (and it’s fans). I can’t believe that we only got Dawnguard and Dragonborn, compared to all the DLC that was released for Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Dragonborn really got me into Skyrim again and although it felt rushed at times, it finally was some real content, which even stayed true to Elder Scrolls lore. I’m really disappointed we won’t see Redguard related DLC content, which I’m pretty convinced you had planned, but for some reason decided to cancel it.

You know, I can accept plans change, but why make the promises and break them? I mean, now you have decided to finish this project, you need to sit down and reflect on all that has happened with this project and how you (not) communicated to the fans. First with the promises of the Creation Kit being released on day one, which got released months later. The first patch to fix bugs, which took way to long. The problems with the first patches, the problems with the DLC on the PlayStation and lastly, the decision to drop the project and breaking the promise of more content. The way you communicated to the fans has been seriously lacking, while you have all the means at your disposal (Gstaff, a forum, a blog, a twitter account, a facebook account etc.). This is something you seriously need to discuss and hopefully improve upon, because the fans will not keep on taking it.

I’m sorry, this moment was supposed to be the moment where I only thank the team for the work they have put in bringing us a terrific game and DLC content, but the way situations have been handled and communicated by the higher-ups just leaves a sour taste, which has led to me writing my first critical post here on this blog. But still, thank you dev-team and thank you GStaff, I just hope things will get better in the future.

  28. You guys totally left us hanging. Redgaurd had so much potential for awesome content and after hinting at it for awhile then stopping right in the middle is just wrong. FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED! I was ready for one last spectacular DLC and Bethesda let us down. If your next project is Fallout 4 just a FYI Fallout doesnt even come close to the gaming experience that Skyrim brings. Very disappointed.

  29. How bout you guys take the size of the team that started your next project before the whole team moved to it, put them on the final dlc for skyrim while keeping the majority of your team on the next project. your looking at 3 – 4 months tops. Than you can shut us all up and make us happy. Even if it meant that the dlc was an extra $5 – $10, i would gladly pay as im sure any other true fan would. Come on guys! Its like what if Return of the King was never made than where would the Lord of the Rings ended up? With skyrim, you guys revolutionized the RPG world… this game is amazing and has opened the door to many more possibilities. Give us one more DLC, to end our suffering and despair. please…. please…. please….

    ONE MORE DLC!!!

  30. haha i rewrote that because i didnt see my last comment so i thought you guys deleted it. but seriously

    ONE MORE DLC!!!
    ONE MORE DLC!!!
    ONE MORE DLC!!!

  31. Hey, just it’d be nice, and make unarmed a bit more playable, if you can enchant gauntlets to do damage or some such? Maybe sometime anyway, but thanks for all so far.

  32. hello there and thank you for your information – I’ve certainly picked up anything new from right here. I did however expertise a few technical points using this website, since I experienced to reload the site lots of times previous to I could get it to load properly. I had been wondering if your hosting is OK? Not that I am complaining, but slow loading instances times will sometimes affect your placement in google and could damage your high quality score if advertising and marketing with Adwords. Well I’m adding this
RSS to my email and could look out for much more of your respective exciting content.

Ensure that you update this again soon.

  33. No offense to other commenters here, but do you just expect them to stop doing evrything for just skyrim? skyrim is great but im looking forward to the advances they will make in the next installments of the series. They are working on TES ONline so why are you so upset? You have gthe creation kit, if you want an expansion why not make it yourself? you have a great story or quest or idea on how to make skyrim better? use the creation kit. There is a reason they leave the game so customizable, they know they cant work on one game for the rest of their careers and you should understand that too. My point simply being stop complaining. There will be more to come.

  34. Im soooo upset right now, although I love all of your games I feel like so much more was needed to finish the skyrim story line. What exactly happened to the dwarves, and the psijic order, the thalmor. And the moot for christs sake! You can’t just leave skyrim with no high king! But I wish you luck on your new project.

  35. If this means you’re moving on to the next adventure in the series, then by all means, godspeed!

Thanks for the game. I think it’s no hyperbole to say this has been a magnificent work of art and achievement in the medium. The time spent immersed in this universe your created has truly been a joy. Just walking in the woods has been a pleasure.

Thank you again. And eagerly waiting for what you create next.

  37. This prob. will not be replied to but
    but just a few questions
    When does this “Moot” happen?
    who gets appointed king/queen?

      • and thats what i was getting at.
that right there is a WHOLE NEW story line.
heck i’m willing to pay 40 bucks for the damn thing to.

        • I would pay even more. :D

But sadly, i don’t know why they ditched Skyrim like it was a yesterday’s trash it’s a damn good game and only phenomenon in the history of video-games.

When i read that horrible news on 15 april, i felt horrible & the next day too, couldn’t belive it & i still can’t.

Been playing Skyrim for 9 full months & it helped me to forget about depression it made my every morning a blessing. I’m still playing it now but….there’s no closure.

          WHY?

          • i believe it had something to due with the whole PS3 issues and everything.
            but thats just my opinion
i know they said it wasn’t b/c of that but they had everyone working on the problems so they could get the DLC. the team prob. said Forget It.
and moved on to what ever they are going to be working on. which is not the evil within
