has officially “Gone Gold”!
Congrats to everyone at Tango Gameworks and everyone else that was involved in the process of making the game — your hard work has helped create a survival horror game that we believe people will be talking about for a long time.
If you’ve been cowering under your covers up until now, The Evil Within arrives on Tuesday, October 14th in Europe and North America, October 16th for New Zealand and Australia, and October 23rd for Japan.

How does the creator of Survival Horror define the genre? What films have had the most influence for Tango Gameworks? What scares Shinji Mikami and his team at Tango Gameworks?
These questions, and many more, are answered in a new Bethesda Behind-the-Scenes web series we worked on with Adam Sessler. During a recent trip to Tango Gameworks’ studio in Tokyo, Japan, Game Director Shinji Mikami and other members of the Tango team opened up to Sessler about The Evil Within and their studio culture like never before. Just wait until you see Mikami-san break out into laughter!
To kick off the web series, we’re starting with three videos today. The first (embedded above) is Sessler’s introduction to the series — setting the stage for what you can expect between now and next month.
For a closer look at gameplay, the series’ next video, ‘The Art of Survival’ features Mikami-san and Producer Masato Kimura as they delve into the gameplay mechanics of “pure survival horror” – discussing traps, enemies, and other terrors that await you when playing The Evil Within.
From there, we go “Inside The Mind of Shinji Mikami” — an intimate journey through The Evil Within’s inception as Shinji Mikami discusses the paths he took in creating his newest survival horror game, his philosophies on game design, and how we works with the team at Tango for coming up with ideas.
Next week and throughout October, be on the lookout for more videos explaining the game’s making, monsters, and of course, plenty more Mikami.
Chomping at the bit for more info on The Evil Within? We’ve got plenty coming this week, and it starts with the latest feature from Game Informer’s month-long look at horror games. Head here to watch a 6-plus minute video as Andrew Reiner and Tim Turi discuss the flavor of horror the game offers. In short, they sum it up as Mikami at his best.

Announced at QuakeCon 2014, Quake Live is now available as a Free to Play game on Steam
for your PC. With its move to Steam, the game features all the newest changes for the game, including a new announcer voice, several new in-game reward medals and more. Full update details can be found on here

With Tokyo Game Show taking place this week (September 18 – 21) in the home city for Shinji Mikami’s team, Tango Gameworks, it only made sense to come up with a new gameplay trailer for The Evil Within. In our newest footage, the game’s primary antagonist Ruvik (voiced by Jackie Earle Haley), narrates and gives clues to the madness you will encounter.
And if you really want to get into the TGS spirit, you can watch the trailer for the Japanese version of the game (Psychobreak), here! As news and pictures come out of TGS, we’ll be sure to share them through our Twitter and Facebook pages.

Update 4 for The Elder Scrolls Online is now available on both the North American and European megaserver, and there’s a ton to see in it! The roads to Upper Craglorn are open, and new quests, delves, and the conclusion of the Celestial storyline are all waiting for your group to explore. Visit Dragonstar and prepare to take on the Scaled Court and their new monstrosities.
A new Trial, Sanctum Ophidia, is open. In it, you’ll take the fight right to the heart of the Scaled Court, battling the deadliest among their ranks, including the Celestial Serpent itself. Vanquish it, and you and your allies will enjoy great renown—and great loot.
Let’s not forget the Dragonstar Arena! This entirely new type of challenge is designed for four Veteran players, and will put your skills to the test. Can you survive waves of dangerous enemies and hazardous conditions to prove yourself a champion? With ten arenas in both Normal and Veteran Mode, there’s plenty of blood sport just waiting for the brave.

- With the game arriving just in time for Halloween, we’re very excited to share news that longtime horror magazine, Fangoria, has placed one of the game’s most disturbing characters, Laura, right on the cover!
- Also gracing Game Informer’s October cover, Game Director Shinji Mikami discusses his return to survival horror in a new interview with Andrew Reiner.
- We continue to share new art from the game on our Facebook and Twitter accounts for the game. This past week we featured new images of Ruvik, and you can look forward to more on the game’s environments this week.

Dripping blood, gooey brains, and terrifying cries of the Haunted. When playing The Evil Within
– Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s return to survival horror – you can expect plenty of gruesome sounds that beg to be played with surround speakers or noise -cancelling headphones.
What you wouldn’t expect is how these sounds are engineered. Stomach-turning noises that could make squeamish players lose their lunch are, actually, created by the very foods you might eat during lunch. On a recent trip to Tango Gameworks, the sound team had the Bethesda Underground team (myself included) track down items to create heinous sound effects for the game.
With a short grocery list of cantaloupe and raw beef from sound designer Mashahiro Izumi, we decided to have some fun and surprise him with additional items to throw into the mix.: noodles, marshmallows, potato chips, and more.
The results? The experience was nearly as terrifying as the game itself. Well versed in the arena of Foley work, Izumi-san assaulted the foods we provided with the same tenacity as some of the game’s most challenging opponents.
