What we’re playing: Heat wave edition

sun.jpg

Having lived in DC for over five years now, I can tell you that when it gets hot…it’s unbearable. Sure you can go to places with higher temperatures, but the humidity is a real killer here. While we had a rather pleasant spring in these parts, the party’s officially over this week. Looking at the weather report for Rockville, it’s supposed to get to 96 degrees tomorrow. Sounds like a good weekend for us to stay indoors and play games…like Fallout 3:).

Feel free to let us know what you’re playing, as well as the local weather forecast in your neck of the woods.

Inside the Vault: Angela Browder

latemay001fixed.jpg

Today’s Inside the Vault is about Angela Browder, associate producer. Angela is actually a lawyer who would rather work here — though her only legal experience was working with Robber Barons and Railroad Tycoons, which actually sounds pretty cool to me. Though, I bet if you asked most lawyers, they’d rather be working on videogames.

Around the Web: Peterem Hinesem edition

screen19B.jpg

Last week Pete had a chance to meet with Polish gaming journalists to discuss Fallout 3 — so if you’re fluent in Polish, you might want to check these out. First, Gram.Pl has a video interview with Pete — where he discusses character gender, NPC companions, and more. Even if you don’t understand Polish, you should be able to pick up on the questions asked based on Pete’s answers.

Meanwhile, Gry-Online has footage up from their interview with Pete as well. They’ve also got a four-page preview on their site.

And just a reminder, as Pete mentioned in the interview with Gram.Pl, our Fallout 3 homepage is now available in Polish. We’ve also got the site localized for French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Russian fans as well. If the cookies on your PC already have the site set to English and you want to change it, you can find the different language options at the bottom of any page on the site.

Homemade Brotherhood of Steel figure

medium_2543518533_70b9211dee_o.jpg

This morning on Kotaku, I spotted a custom-made Brotherhood of Steel figure created by Jim Saotome — a gaming fan notorious for making cool custom figures in the past (like Gordon Freeman and the Master Chief).

Over on his website, Saotome discusses how the BoS likeness was created:

“Our Brotherhood of Steel here was made from the upper half of a Sigma 6 Zartan, lower half of Sigma Strike Duke, ML Hulkbuster armor pieces, Cobra Commander helmet, Leatherneck gas mask, then all sorts of odds and ends worked into the piece as well as sculpting with Aves Studios Fixit Sculpt.”

With all those parts from GI Joe characters, it kind of reminded me of how Cobra created Serpentor. Can I get a Yoooo Joe?

Last week while in Europe, Pete showed off Fallout 3 at Ubisoft’s Ubidays event in Paris at the Louvre Museum. If you’ve ever been to the Louvre (or read The DaVinci Code), you know that the famous museum is home to some great pieces of art, including the Mona Lisa.

In the spirit of displaying artwork, here’s a look at one of three screenshots we shared at the Ubidays event. To see them in their full glory, head over to our Fallout 3 homepage.

What we’re playing: Catching up edition

Long weekends (like last weekend) are always nice, but then again, they always seem to make the next week that much more hectic. If you can believe it, the guy in the picture above was actually partying in Cabo over Memorial Day weekend. And now look at him…he’s miserable!

Thankfully the weekend’s here, and having talked with a several few people at the office, it sounds like folks are looking to get the heck outta Dodge. It’s the opposite for me. I’m relieved to not be traveling for a change, and I’m looking forward to coming into the office so I can spend some time playing Fallout 3!

Hope you all have a great weekend. Here’s the game’s we’ll be playing…

Fred Zeleny , Checking Email by Poolside: J. W. Dundee’s Honey Brown, Yuengling Lager, and McClelland’s 5 year Islay Whiskey. Vacation is a wonderful thing.

Jared Angus, QA Tester: I am flying to the Philippines tomorrow, so I’ll have lots of time to play all my DS games.

Todd Howard: Fallout 2.8a (almost there…)

New Hall of Famers at Planet Elder Scrolls

1135922429_fullres.jpg

Over on Planet Elder Scolls, the site has announced their latest Hall of Fame entries for the months of April and May. Per usual, to reach “Hall of Fame” status, a mod must receive a minimum of 25 votes with a score of 8 or higher and have been available for at least three months, as well as having been downloaded at least 5,000 times. Typically, only the top three mods for Morrowind and Oblivion qualify, but since there were no announcements in April, this time around, four mods qualified for Morrowind and six mods for Oblivion.

Before I share the mods that met the criteria, it’s also worth noting an honorary entry was given to Lord Devil’s housing mod, Cragonmoor (shown above). Lord Devil (also known as Quatloos), passed away recently. She will be remembered as a friend and valued member of the Morrowind modding community, and we send our condolences to her family and friends.
