I’ve received word from our UK office that Fallout 3 has been nominated for a Golden Joystick Award in the Edge Most Wanted Award category. As you may recall, the game received a similar nomination last year. It won’t be able to pull off the trifecta in 2009 though, as it will be available in UK stores on the same day the winners are revealed — October 31st.
Meanwhile, if you live in the Land of the Rising Sun, it was announced today that Fallout 3 will be released in Japan on Thursday, December 4th.

Shacknews’ Nick Breckton made his way to PAX on Friday, where he interviewed Pete and Istvan, and also went hands-on with the game, in which he admits his “rabid anticpation” for the game. Here’s a snippet:
“The thing about the VATS system–the slow motion approximation of Fallout’s tactical limb targeting system–is that, while it at first seems to function more like a bullet time system, it fundamentally works on the same level of Fallout’s original system. There’s that same decision between a sure shot or a low-percentage attempt, and that same glorious anticipation before a 99%, skull-exploding, point-blank blast to the eye.”

Whew! After three long days in Seattle, we’ve returned from PAX. With over 58,000 people at the event, we had our hands full — but it was definitely worth it. We had a blast chatting with fans and letting them try out Fallout 3.
One of the highlights of the event was the reaction to the Vault 77 puppets. Above is a video from the Omegathon — where the dancing puppets stole the show…
It’s Wednesday again, and while I probably don’t need to remind you there’s a new Penny Arcade comic on the Fallout 3 Official Site, I want to make sure it’s etched in your brain.
Speaking of Penny Arcade, PAX is this week, and we’re helping put together a Post-Apocalyptic movie night. If you plan on attending, it’s not too late to vote for the movies that will be screened on Saturday night. Currently 12 Monkeys and The Road Warrior are the front runners. Voting will continue through today.
Greetings from Las Vegas! Before heading off to PAX, I’m here at the Game Crazy 2008 National Sales Conference at Mandalay Bay. I always get a kick out of conventions in this town because you get a mix of different crowds from different industries all in Sin City for their respective jobs. Last time I was here it was all about weddings and crazy outfits for pets. This time I’m seeing a good mix of gamers, golfers, and ummm…adult entertainers.
Anyways, I’m here showing the game to managers from all the different Game Crazy stores. So far, it’s been fun to see how enthusiastic and excited they are about the game. It’s starting to hit me how how close we are to releasing the game. Exciting times.

I’m almost positive that what they pay me for here is “interface programming”. That is, I create, maintain, and polish that thin, delicate membrane that resides between the game world and the real one. There’s a glut of information and goings-on in our games that I’m told is very important and it’s my job to see that it gets presented to the player in some semblance of order. I also get bonus points if it looks pretty and if it doesn’t crash the game. To date, I think I have 3 bonus points.
