Bethesda vs. Mythic: TF2 Roundup

tfteam.jpg

Last week, we reported that our Team Fortress 2 specialists, Team Bethesda (aka the Vault 101 Dwellers aka [V101]), were putting their undefeated record on the line against EA Mythic. I asked Matthew Ouzounian (aka Matt Headroom) to recap the match and Daryl put together a recap video you can watch here.

Salve discipuli et discipulae! M-M-Matt Headroom, faithful m-m-m-mmmmedic and cheerleader for team Bethesda a.k.a. [V101], here to tell you a little story. You may have marked our match of mettle with Mythic in a Team Fortress 2. It is possible to present the pettifog using a plethora of playful phrases or prose, perchance, I was persuaded to portray it…but that’ll do it for the a-a-alliteration. Did we win? Well, you’ll just have to keep reading to f-f-f-find out.

Stuff to check out over at Oblivion Files

commando.jpg

For this week’s mod update for The Elder Scrolls, I thought I’d point out some of the featured mods currently up on FileFront’s site dedicated to Oblivion, the Oblivion Files.

The current “file of the week” is Trollf’s Hunter’s Performance Review (v1.1). While mentioned as being “a bit pointless in nature,” I couldn’t disagree more. Essentially, it provides a “kill count” for creatures killed by you, your companions, and the creatures killed by other NPCs and creatures while you were in the cell. The only downside to the mod is that at the time, it does not account for creatures that were created by modders. Still, I think the concept’s great.

Cthulhu: The Movie

cthulhu poster.jpg

As some of you might recall, back in 2005, we published Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, a 1st-person/survival-horror title is based on the works by horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. Today, while checking out Quiet Earth, a good site “dedicated to genre film and everything post apocalyptic,” I came across a trailer for a new film based on Lovecraft’s work, appropriately titled “Cthulhu.”

Investigating on IMDb, it doesn’t look like this movie is expected to get a wide-release, and from what I can tell, it wass only shown on the film festival circuit last year. I considered sharing the trailer on the blog, but I thought it was a little much. I mean, it’s pretty disturbing…not to mention there’s a little too much Tori Spelling action going on in it.

If you’re interested in learning more, here’s a link to the official site for the film, as well a 5 star review I found on Dead Central. If anyone wants to share their thoughts on the movie, you can find me hiding under my bed.

Precioussss Armor

When checking personal messages from within our forums, I know I’m in for a treat when one of our members, Gizmo, sends me a link to a video, article, etc. This week was no exception as he sent me a link to a pretty cool armor mod in Oblivion that recreates of the look of Sauron — the famed Dark Lord from Lord of the Rings. The armor mod appears to have been created by You Tube member cultbrain. If you ask me, I think he nailed the look. Maybe he’s the same guy that created this armor for a fantasy festival.

Impressive…most impressive (oops, wrong trilogy).

Mod Interview: Korana

Cheryl_Pirate_4.jpg

Yarrrr, for this week’s mod interview, we’re chatting with Korana of the BGS forums. Korana, whose real name is Cheryl, lives a pretty exciting life. She recently got engaged, sells booze for a living, and as a resident of Idaho has somehow never seen potatoes grow. Oh yeah, and she’s got a birthday coming up in a few weeks. Congrats on a quarter century of excellence!

As for modding, Korana had done a wide variety of stuff for the Elder Scrolls…just take a gander at her website.

On with the show…

What we’re playing: Friday Night Fight vs. EA Mythic

Don King.jpg

As many have noticed, we definitely have plenty of folks that take Team Fortress 2 very seriously. In matches against developers from other companies, the Vault 101 Dwellers have amassed a record of 3-0 — beating the likes of Breakaway, Retro and Bioware. Tonight, the boys from Bethesda are aiming their sites on another win, this time against EA Mythic (makers of Dark Age of Camelot). Rumor has it a match against Blizzard…err…Activision Blizzard is being negotiated by Don King…keep an eye out for that.

So will the office team move to 4-0, or will this blog post serve as a jinx? Stay tuned!

Here’s what the Vault 101 Dwellers and everyone else are playing this weekend…

Cory Dornbusch, An Unwashed Villager… err QA Tester: The Witcher, and TF2 – Bethsoft vs. Mythic Friday night…place your bets!

Nate Purkeypile, Uber Pyro: TF2 match against Mythic to hopefully maintain our undefeated streak, Mario Galaxy and sending back my busted Rock Band drums and guitar.

Mike Lattanzia, QA: Hellgate: London (testing out new Blademaster builds), Rock Band, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4 (I finally gave in), Savage 2, Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (getting close to finishing the main story!), Super Mario Galaxy; way too many games right now, I’m almost glad that Smash Bros was delayed.

Around the web…

1989_the_world_wide.jpg

Thought I’d point out a couple of interesting tidbits I’ve noticed across the web this week…

Over on Voodoo Extreme, there’s a fan poll titled, “Most Wanted 2008 PC Games.” There’s a lot of good choices to vote for. Currently, Fallout 3 is receiving the second most votes behind Blizzard’s hugely-anticipated Starcraft 2.

Nuclear Winter

snow vault 001.jpg

It was bound to happen at some point…today we were hit with our first snowstorm of the year. While nowhere near as bad as what my Michigan blood is accustomed to, the storm was bad enough to cause our internet to be on the fritz today. With some extra downtime, we decided to have a little fun in the snow. We were going to try to make snow angels using this Vault Boy mock up display…but it didn’t turn out well. So instead, we just let Vault Boy hang out while we threw some snow balls at each other.

Alas, the internet is back up, so it’s back to work!
