Double the Carmack = Double the Knowledge

We’re excited to announce that in addition to his annual QuakeCon keynote address, John Carmack will return to the stage for lecture-style presentation focusing on light transport and rendering.

Titled “The Physics of Light and Rendering”, the talk will take place on Friday, August 2nd at 5:00pm CST. Learn how light behaves in the real world, and the approximations and compromises that are involved in simulating the behavior with computers. This lecture will be geared towards those interested in the interactions of light in the world and how computer software simulates it. Note: Not for the technically faint at heart. :)

If you missed John’s 2012 keynote, watch the embed from our QuakeCon YouTube channel.

The Great Battles of Valhalla

Valhalla sounds like a location in Skyrim, so it’s no surprise that the six-day wargaming event put on by Blue Table Painting has a few connections with our game. So far, I’ve come up with three…

  • Blue Table Painting is hard at work on a Skryim-themed board. Attendees of this yea’r’s event will be able to see the completed board. See early progress in the video embedded above.
  • The event takes place in the mountains of Utah. Kinda looks like Skyrim.
  • Like many of our developers, BGS’ Nate McDyer is a fan of tabletop gaming and will be discussing game development at the event.

I’m sure there’s many more connections — frost trolls, alchemy tables, and possibly an appearance by Eorlund Gray-Mane. For more on Valhalla, visit Blue Table Painting’s YouTube channel, as well as the website for next month’s event.

ESO Update: Interviews, Food Trucks, beards, and more!

While The Elder Scrolls Online continues to invite new players to closed beta, there’s plenty of happenings happening outside of the game world.

At ElderScrollsOnline.com, the newest ‘Ask Us Anything’ feature delves into community questions on Dungeon gameplay. Here’s a sampling:

Will there be a lockout timer for dungeons, or can we run the same dungeon with different friends over and over if we want to? – Jeramiah Linscott

We don’t currently have any plans to use lockout timers. You can run through a dungeon as often as you like.

Looking to get more questions answered? You’ll definitely want to visit MMORPG.com tomorrow night. Starting at 7 PM EST, creative director Paul Sage will be taking fan questions… LIVE!

One thing that cannot be questioned is your dedication to ESO — that is if you decide to order ThinkGeek.com’s all-new ESO Nord mask/beard. Wear it during beta, at Comic-Con, or when reading the popular Christmas book, “The Nord Before Christmas”.

Speaking of Comic-Con, if you’re lucky enough to be in San Diego this week, stop by and visit the Elder Scrolls Online Food Truck. Running from 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM tomorrow, you can score some free eats and giveaways. Details can be found on the ESO Facebook page.

That’s all for this update. Stay classy!

New Dishonored Content: Daud’s adventure concludes in The Brigmore Witches

Darkness or Redemption? The final path of Daud, the man behind the assassination of Dunwall’s Empress, will be determined in Dishonored’s last add-on, The Brigmore Witches.

In the coming weeks we will share new content from the game — on the blog, as well as our Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr pages for the game. To whet your appetite, here’s a brief description of the content.

In The Brigmore Witches, continue your journey as the legendary assassin, Daud, and bring his twisted narrative that began with The Knife of Dunwall to a close. After discovering the identity and intentions of Delilah, the leader of the Brigmore Witch coven, you set out to disrupt her from completing a powerful ritual that will spell your doom. Having already been betrayed by your lieutenant, Billie Lurk, you must rely on feuding gang factions—the Dead Eels and the Hatters—to negotiate your way through previously unseen districts of Dunwall en route to Delilah’s stronghold. Regardless of the way you reach your destination, one thing is for certain – you will finally answer for your treacherous actions and fall before the mercy, or punishment, of the Royal Bodyguard and Assassin, Corvo Attano. Additionally, your power, weapon and item upgrades, Chaos level, and player actions from The Knife of Dunwall will carry over via a compatible save file option.

As noted, if you completed The Knife of Dunwall, you will be able to carry over your save file to The Brigmore Witches. If you haven’t finished the content yet, you still have plenty of time — The Brigmore Witches arrives on Xbox 360, PS3, and Steam ($9.99 or 800 MS Points) next month on August 13th. PS3 players in Europe will be able to purchase the content a day later on August 14th.

Steam Trading Cards added to Skyrim

If you don’t already own Skyrim, Steam’s Summer Sale offers major savings on the original release, DLC, and Legendary Edition. And whether you already have the game or are just getting started, the game now supports Steam’s newly-added trading cards.

Started a few months back by Valve, you can now unlock Skyrim-specific trading cards — simply by playing the game. But like collecting baseball cards, it’s not easy to grab every card, and you’ll need to trade with your Steam friends to finish the set. Aside from the Dragonborn pride you’ll feel by finishing the set, collecting sets allows you to  unlock Skyrim-specific badges, emoticons, background images, and more.

New QuakeCon Details

The return of Peace, Love, and Rockets is nearly here!

Today we’re exactly three weeks from the kickoff of QuakeCon 2013 and excited to share updated details on the 18th running of North America’s largest LAN event. Read on for more on our keynote, presentations, panel, and exhibit hall sponsors.

As has become tradition, the first day of QuakeCon will feature a keynote address from the legendary John Carmack, id Software’s co-founder and technical director.

Along with John’s keynote, this year’s QuakeCon will feature the first public gameplay presentations for The Elder Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein: The New Order and The Evil Within — plus a special panel featuring Dishonored’s Raphael Colantonio, Ricardo Bare and Seth Shain. These events will all take place on the show’s Ventrilo Main Stage. Additionally, attendees will be able to play The Elder Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein, and Dishonored’s final game add-on, The Brigmore Witches, in the QuakeCon exhibit hall.

The Elder Scrolls Online, the next chapter in the award-winning series and the first to bring the legendary experience online, Wolfenstein: The New Order, a reimagining of the popular shooter franchise developed by MachineGames, and Dishonored: Brigmore Witches, the third add-on pack for Arkane Studios’ critically-acclaimed first-person action game, will all be playable at the show.
