What we’re playing: Burning the midnight oil edition

2006030600530301.jpg

Today’s list of “What we’re playing” is a little bit shorter than most. Why? Maybe everyone’s watching The Dark Knight again (SEE IT!), or maybe they’re just really busy working on Fallout 3.

TGIF! Have a great weekend!

Cory Dornbusch: Warhammer 40k – Dark Crusade, TF2, and Fallout 3 (Crunch time !!!).

Matt Grandstaff: GTA IV (still), Boom Blox, Space Invaders Extreme, NCAA 2009.

Emil Pagliarulo, Lead Designer: Battlefield: Bad Company multiplayer, Civilization: Revolution.

What we’re playing: ‘Why so serious?’ edition

dark-knight-why-so-serious1.jpg

Okay, so it’s not game related at all, but I’m pretty sure by the end of the weekend, at least half of the folks here will have gone to see the latest Batman flick, The Dark Knight. Like others here, I attended a sold-out midnight screening last night. Despite needing several cups of coffee this morning, it was well worth it.

Below are a couple references to guys going to see the movie, as well as the games we’ll be playing this weekend.

Sam Bernstein, QA Tester: Buying a DS! Huzzah! So I’ll be playing Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Fred Zeleny, the Dork Knight: Civ:Rev on DS, Fallout 3 on PC, and finding any excuse to go see The Dark Knight again and again and again.

Matt Grandstaff, Community Manager: NCAA Football 2009, Boom Blox, GTA IV, the sleep game.

toddlost.jpg

Can you believe it? We’re only a weekend away from E3! Todd’s got his “If Lost” sign ready, so I guess that means everything is a go for next week.

Before the madness begins, let’s take a look at the games we’ll be playing over the weekend.

Gary Noonan, Character Animator: Fallout3, Mass Effect.

Matt Spahlinger, QA Tester: Age of Conan, Baseball Mogul 2009, Championship Manager, Fallout 3

Craig Lafferty, Producer: Fallout 3, Civilization Revolution, Iphone games if my Ibrick ever starts working again.

With tomorrow being the Fourth of July, everyone at the office is pretty excited to have a three-day weekend to relax, BBQ, watch fireworks (you know, the stuff that’s in the current blog poll…minus the work).

Here’s some of our weekend plans, as well as the games we’ll be playing. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Gavin Carter, Producer: Trying to avoid throttling Professor Layton, trying to beat Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, GOING to beat GTA4, and lots and lots of Fallout 3. No rest for the weary!

Tim “Visor” Lamb, Producer: Playing golf, going to watch the Pros play golf, taking a nap during televised golf, maybe going to a movie.

Ashley Cheng, Production Director: GTA IV, Wii Fit.

One year and counting…

1994439286_68aca096f5.jpg

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of our first post here on Bethesda Blog (or BethBlog…whichever you prefer). Speaking for Pete, Ashley, and everyone else who has contributed to the blog, we’ve really enjoyed working on the blog and hope you’ve had as much fun reading it.

If you ever have any suggestions for how we could make the blog even better, feel free to shoot us an email. Thanks again for reading!

What we’re playing: You’re gettin’ a Dell edition

dellguy1.jpg

In the past few weeks, a bunch of guys (Joel, Purkey, Claff, Emil…to name a few) decided to upgrade to new PCs so they can enjoy some of the newest releases (Age of Conan, Crysis, etc.) in all their glory. If you’re interested in ordering a similar rig, Joel sent me the link to the deal these guys took advantage of (dude!).

Here’s this week’s rundown…

Nate Purkeypile: Practicing more TF2 for the Studio Rumble on my fancy new computer, maybe some Crysis also now that I can actually run it.

“Joltok, late of Cimmeria” Burgess: Running around Hyboria, refusing to wear anything that isn’t a circlet, loincloth, or armband, regardless of stats.

Terry Dunn, Jr: Age of Conan, Rockband, WC3: DOTA mod, and MAYBE some D&D 4th Ed. if I’m feeling nerdy enough.

What we’re playing: War has changed edition

926596_20080521_screen013.jpg

In last week’s edition of “What We’re Playing,” OrganicShadow commented, “Wow. ONE PERSON playing MGS4?”

Well, actually, there were two of us — both Craig Lafferty and myself, as I ended up getting a copy that night. And if you ask me, it’s definitely a must-play game. Looking through the run down of what the devs are playing this weekend, it looks like at least three of us are now playing it.

On the topic of MGS 4, my Google Alerts picked up an interesting blog post that notes the contrasting messages presented in Fallout and MGS 4’s introductions. I’m glad someone brought it up, as my friends and I were blown away when we heard Snake begin with “War has changed.” Personally, I think both introductions make compelling arguments supporting their claim.

Anyways, here’s this week’s rundown. Let us know what you’re playing.

Phil Glaser, QA: Playing Fallout 3, Battlefield BC Demo, MGS4 (In all honesty, I’m mostly watching this one. Best movie evar!!)

Matt Grandstaff, Community Manager: Metal Gear Solid 4, Ninja Gaiden II, NCAA Football 09 demo

Craig Lafferty, Producer: Fallout 3, Space Invaders Extreme, Metal Gear Solid 4.

Memorable Moments in Gaming: Erik gets Punk’d

xlarge.jpg

This week I asked the devs if they would be interested in sharing their favorite gaming moments here on the blog — whether it be from a game developed here at Bethesda or a game they played during their leisure. Cheers to Lead Interface Programmer Erik Deitrick for leading off…

Hit the jump to read his tale from Oblivion…

What we’re playing: RPG/MMO extravaganza

age-conan-hyborian-adventures-3.jpg

Looking through the responses I got to my “What we’re playing” email this morning, it seems like most of the devs are spending their time playing some of the new RPGs that are now out. In terms of single-player RPGs, Penny Arcade: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, is already becoming a fan favorite at the office. Meanwhile in the MMORPG realm, Age of Conan is beginning to impede on precious World of Warcraft play time. You’ll also notice that Square’s newest RPG on the DS, The World Ends with You, is getting some serious attention.

After taking a look, let us know what you’re playing.

Michael Lattanzia, QA: Age of Conan, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King (whew, I think that name needs to be longer), The World Ends With You, and thinking of finally picking up On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

Ryan Salvatore, QA: 2 games that I will collectively call “The World of
Warcraft Ends with You.”

Fred Zeleny, Acronym Enthusiast: Finishing up TWEwY, reading some D&D4E,
and maybe picking up PA:otRSPoD.
