What we’re playing

With a long weekend, those that didn’t take a a vacation from their PCs and game consoles had plenty of time to catch up on games. I see a few folks checking out Punch-Out!! on Wii, the PS3 demo for inFamous, and office favorites like Dawn of War II, Team Fortress 2, and Plants vs. Zombies.

Hope you all had a great weekend. Let us know what you played.

Chris Esko, Gameplay Programmer: Red Faction: Guerilla multiplayer demo, Demigod, Team Fortres 2, Plants vs. Zombies.

Daryl Brigner, Level Designer: Mass Effect (PC), Team Fortress 2 (PC), and possibly some Shadow of the Colossus.

Cory Dornbusch, QA Medic: Dodging Jarate wielding Snipers in Team Fortress 2. Then get stuck in with the boyz in Dawn of War 2, after that try “little rocket man” for Half Life 2 Ep.2.

What we’re playing

re5may.jpg

The weekend’s nearly over — for many of us, it’s been full of games. Popular games at the office this week include Resident Evil 5, Killzone 2, Dawn of War 2, and Peggle — which has found it’s way onto many of our iPhones. Having just purchased it on DS, I’m trying to show some restraint.

Jay Woodward, Pink Deathclaw Rustler: F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin and misc. board games (Amun Re, Dominion, Space Dealer, and/or Race for the Galaxy).

Andrew Scharf: Resident Evil 5, Peggle for iPhone.

Craig Lafferty, Senior Producer: Sacred 2, Zen Pinball, and Tiger Woods 2009.

Mike Dulany, Programmer: Peggle (iPhone), RE:5, Killzone 2.

What we’re playing

The weekend is here and it’s time to play games. So what’s the hot new game to play at the office? I’ve heard a few guys raving about Plants vs. Zombies, a garden-fresh take on the “tower defense” genre, made by the team at Pop Cap (Peggle). If you’re interested in giving it a shot, try the demo here.

Have a great weekend.

Jesse Tucker, Level Design: Plants vs. Zombies, TF2. Puzzle Quest has relinquished its stranglehold.

Emil Pagliarulo: Wolverine for 360, Velvet Assassin for 360, and Lord of the Rings Online.

Steve Meister: Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Banjo-Tooie Xbox Live Arcade, and iPhone Scrabble.

Cory Dornbusch: The Charlie Kelly of QA: Fallout 3 Broken Steel.

Brent Krische, QA: Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures, LittleBigPlanet, and hopefully some Fallout 3 over the weekend.

What we’re playing: watching the Draft edition

aaron-curry.jpg

Below you’ll see my intended list of games I’d like to be playing this weekend, but given that the NFL Draft is currently on, who knows if I’ll get around to booting up my 360 or PS3. Currently, I’m in hour 5 of watching the draft — in hopes that the Lions can improve from last year. While optimistic, I still wish they would’ve picked Aaron Curry (above) from Pete’s alma mater Wake Forest.

While I know others at the office are excited about the draft, there’s plenty guys here that will still be playing games. Here’s the rundown.

Emil Pagliarulo, Fallout 3 Lead Designer: Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, World of Warcraft, and Lord of the Rings Online.

Ben Carnow, Character Artist: Left 4 Dead, Zeno Clash.

Ricardo Gonzalez, On a WoW break: Diablo II, Starcraft. I *want* to play non-Blizzard games, but for some reason…my hands won’t…errgh….nn…nonononobad! Veryverybadthoughts! Must…install Warcraft III…yess….

Erik J. Caponi: Playing Peggle during the shockingly large amount of time I spend being dead in Ulduar.

What we’re playing: Halo again edition

IntoTheFray2.jpg

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen devs playing Halo 3, but it looks like the release of the Mythic Map Pack has folks coming back for more. I might even give it a whirl myself — I need to get back in a groove before Halo 3: ODST gets released.

Below are the rest of the games we’re playing. Have a great weekend!

Bruce Nesmith: Halo 3.

Brent Krische, QA Tester: Final Fantasy IV (DS), Sam & Max Season Two, and a little bit of Halo 3 with my girlfriend’s little brother.

Sam Bernstein, QA: Left 4 Dead, Halo 3, and warming up my old copy of Warcraft 3 (thank goodness is OS X compatible).

Matt Ponton, QA: Street Fighter IV (360), Valkyria Chronicles, and Mirror’s Edge (360).

Somewhere between feasting on Cadbury Creme Eggs and watching golf, “What We’re Playing” didn’t get posted over the weekend. Better late than never, here’s the games we’re playing. Highlights from this week include Killzone 2, The Dishwasher, and little game called World of Warcraft.

Have a great weekend week!

Daryl Brigner, Level Designer: Valkyria Chronicles (Check it out!), Killzone 2, Age of Conan, and LoTRO.

Orin Tresnjak, Graphics Programmer: Dragon Quest V, GTA Chinatown Wars, Killzone 2, Midnight Club Los Angeles.

What we’re playing…

peggle-deluxe-3.jpg

Very few trends this week in what people are playing. Hmmm. I’ll bet dollars to donuts (it is Donut Friday) that a bunch of these guys are going to end up playing countless hours of  Peggle on Xbox LIVE.

Brent Krische, QA Tester: Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures, The Darkness, and watching my girlfriend play Cooking Mama: Cook off and Order Up!.

Cody Shumway: Gears of War 2, Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, and Lost Planet

Sean Palomino, QA Tester: Street Fighter IV (360) and Prince of Persia (360).

Fred Zeleny, Back in the (Raptor) Saddle Again: Looks like I’ve resubscribed to World of Warcraft again. One of these days, I swear I’ll keep playing long enough to get a character to top level…

Dan Ross, QA: Empire: Total War and painting Warhammer minis.

What we’re listening to…

IMG_0w1001.jpg

This week we’re looking at the music our developers are listening to, which is fun for me, because it gives me new bands to research. Given I rarely listen to the radio anymore (outside of Pandora), I’ll be sure to read up on some of the artists mentioned (looking up Ratatat as we speak). Oddly enough, most of my music purchases these days are based on reading about a band — not listening to them..

Speaking of bands I’ve read about, I had heard good things about The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. I took a chance on it, and ended up really liking it. If you’re a fan of The Stone Roses, you might like it too.

Here’s what everyone else is rocking out to…

Nathan X, Associate Producer: Red Fang, Kyuss, Mastodon, Knights of the Abyss, Within the Ruins, Darkest Hour, The Hives, Spinnerette, Koffin Kats, Black Star, The Who, The Subways, The Go! Team, and Bad Brains.

Marisa Lyon, QA Tester: Eels, Gogol Bordello, The Indelicates, and the new Decemberists album.

Cory Dornbusch, QA: Carbon Leaf, Neal Mccoy, Brooks and Dunn, Hollywood Undead, Tool, A Perfect Circle… I don’t know I hit random.

What we’re playing: Sending Galactica off in style edition

bsg 009.jpg

This week many of us will be saying farewell to a good friend, as the final episode of Battlestar Galactica airs tonight. If you’ve noticed over the past few weeks, a number of devs have been playing the Battlestar Galactica Board Game for Thursday Night Game Night. As a Galactica fan myself, I checked out Jeff Lundin, Chris Esko, Ryan Salvatore, Jay Woodward, Nate Ellis and Jon Paul Duvall playing the game. In the pic above, these Final Five Six were in denial about their Cylon heritage and trying to accuse our Brotherhood of Steel of being a Centurion model.

Outside of the BSG board game, here’s what everyone else is playing…

Chris Esko, Gameplay Programmer: Dawn of War II, Madworld, King’s Bounty, the Battlestar Galactica boardgame.

Jay Woodward, AI Programmer: Some sort of improvisational Battlestar-finale drinking game (drink when something explodes! Drink when someone dies! Drink six times when a Six dies or Adama says “roll the hard six!” Drink one thousand nine hundred seventy-eight times for the colonial anthem!), the Battlestar board game (of course!), tabletop 4th ed. Dungeons & Dragons, and GTA IV.

Mark Teare, FX Artist: NHL 09, Prince of Persia, V-smile Baby.

Jon Paul Duvall, Designer: BsG boardgame, Dominion, Tribune, D&D 4th Edition; video games: WoW (yeah, damn that black hole, I thought I had escaped…)

What’s this Twitter rubbish?

twitter.jpg

Well over a year ago, I thought Twitter was a a fad that would just go away. I was one of those kids that said, “nope, I’m not joining that party.” Well, in the past few months/weeks I’ve realized —  it’s kind of a big deal. This week we join the cool kids with our very own Bethesda Blog Twitter feed.

So what will you find in our tweets? For the most part, I’d expect you’ll see similar updates to what you’ll find here, perhaps a bit more immediate than waiting to pull together a post on them. Given that you can’t type much up on a Twitter, you might hear about stuff there first. And who knows, we might have some surprises in store as well. Or maybe we’ll just tell you what color socks Todd’s wearing.
