Fallout 3 News update

Happy Wednesday everyone (aka Cookie Day at the office)! Here’s some new Fallout 3 coverage for you to check out.

In yesterday’s USA Today, there’s a story on new downloadable games/content. Within the article, there’s a mention of Fallout 3’s second DLC, The Pitt. The Pitt will hit Xbox LIVE and Games for Windows this March.

Still haven’t downloaded Operation: Anchorage? Today, The Escapist put up their Fallout 3 Challenge, where you’ll have a chance to win a download code for either Xbox 360 or Games for Windows. To win, you’ll need to correctly answer 10 Fallout 3 trivia questions. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that anyone that frequents Bethesda Blog will have no trouble answering the questions. Keep in mind the challenge is a one day affair, and winners will be selected at random from those that correctly answer the questions. For more details, head to The Escapist.

A couple contests

Here’s two ongoing contests that I thought you might want to enter.

At Games for Windows, their currently running a “Connect and Win” competition, which you can easily enter if you’ve got the GFW release of Fallout 3. The name pretty much says it all. If you’re playing Fallout 3 while logged into Games for Windows LIVE, you’re eligible to win. This week they’re giving out daily prizes of 4000 Microsoft points (points that could be used towards Operation: Anchorage and future Fallout 3 DLC releases). Next week their competition concludes with Survival Editions of Fallout 3 being given out daily.  The contest is for residents in the US, UK, Germany and France. For more details, visit here.

Elsewhere, MTV UK is currently running a Fallout 3 contest on their site. In addition to being able to win a 360 copy of the game, you have a chance at winning an Xbox 360 Pro, as well as some fun Fallout 3 schwag.

Good luck.

Before we head out for the weekend, here’s some news I thought I’d share from across teh internetz. There’s a video from X-Play announcing Fallout 3 as their winner for RPG of the Year. Elsewhere, Fidgit named Fallout 3 one of the Top 10 Games of 2008.

As previously mentioned, Trophies are coming to the PlayStation 3 release of Fallout 3. To see the full list, head here.

Finally, if you didn’t get a chance to snag a Survival Edition of Fallout 3, as part of their Holicraze giveaway, GameDaily is giving away one — signed by the development team no less. The contest kicked off today at noon and runs through midnight. Hurry for your chance to win.

Morrowind House Modding Invitational: The Revenge

Back in June, BGS forum member Fliggerty arranged a Morrowind modding competition aimed at encouraging newcomers to the game’s ever-popular modding scene. With the success of the competition, he started up a second invitational, which runs through January 5, 2009.

Like the first invitational, this one centers around making a house mod. But wait — there’s new categories and rules. Interested? To find out more, head to the Morrowind Mods board.

Around the web: New Fallout 3 contest

Here’s a few notable Fallout 3 mentions I thought you’d like to check out.

First, there’s a contest at Planet Fallout that you’ll want to enter. Entering their “End of World Sweeps” gives you a chance to win a plasma TV, an Area-51: Quad Core Flagship from Alienware, an Xbox 360, as well as some Fallout 3-related schwag. To enter, you must be at least 18 years of age and a US resident. You can read the rest of the contest rules here before entering.

Also at Planet Fallout, Blinzler continues his primer for Fallout 3 with new features on characters, places, and groups found within the game.

Fallout 3 Speed Run: It was that close

phelps_touchd.jpg

In what’s become a tradition here at the office, the development team holds a speed run competition near the launch time. With Fallout 3 readying for release in October, the Fallout 3 Speed Run final was held on Friday, September 5th. To the winner: a pie of their choosing.

Back at E3, Todd talked some game — claiming that when it came for the speed run, he’d be the one coming out victorious. Umm…not quite. The finals came down to level designer Jeff “Live the Dream” Browne and QA Tester (and the most recent cover boy for Inside the Vault) Sam”I Am” Bernstein.

Vote for your favorite PC games of all time

vote-button.jpg

Earlier this month, PC Gamer (UK) revised their Top 100 list of the greatest games of all time. On the list, it’s worth noting that the original Fallout cracked the list at #21, and Oblivion found its way into the top ten at #7.

With their list out of the way, they now want folks like you to help compile the Readers’ Top 100. If you’re interested, simply register here, and then compile your top 10 list. Amongst the list of games, you can vote for games from The Elder Scrolls series (Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion), Fallout series (Fallout 1 and 2), and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth made the cut. Of course you can vote for plenty of other great games — from Half Life 2 to Peggle.

Compiling your top 10 list has an incentive as well as one lucky participant will get a new PC. For more details, head over to the Top 100 page.
