PlayStation 3 DLC Update

Over at PlayStation.Blog, Ash put together a blog post with an update on the status of Fallout 3 DLC. Here’s a snippet from Ash’s post:

“So when can you expect Fallout 3 DLC? We still have a ways to go. We are knee deep in testing at the moment. We’re hoping to have the first DLC out by the end of September. That long? Yes, unfortunately. Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.

I do have good news! We have decided that Broken Steel will be the first release since it is easily the most requested DLC from our fans. Broken Steel allows you to continue playing the game after completing the Main Quest, raises the level cap to 30, and includes 4-6 hours of additional gameplay. It is also the one DLC that requires you to finish the Main Quest from the game to play the new content.”

The weekend’s almost here, but before we head out, here’s one last web roundup.

There’s a trio of new interviews that went up in the last day. Jeff Gardiner answered Mothership Zeta questions at OXM UK, GameObserver chatted with Production Director Ashley Cheng, and Skewed & Reviewed interviewed Pete about ZeniMax’s acquisition of id Software.

Moving to features, there’s a couple to check out at Gamasutra. Up first, they have a list of 20 Essential RPGs — which included The Elder Scrolls series. Elsewhere on the site, James Portnow has a feature about designing moral choice in games that discusses Fallout 3.

Similar to the Gamasutra piece, there’s a featured story at Destructoid by zombiekiller13 about the tough choices he made while traversing the Capital Wasteland. Here’s a snippet:

“But here it is; I became so engrossed in this game that I began to envision them as living, breathing people. People who went about their lives while I was out exploring the world. What were they doing during my abscence. Did Moira tick anyone else off with her condescending attitude? Was Nova bedding as many of the residents as she could, or was she waiting for me to make a weekly visit? Was the sheriff taking care of a drunken Jericho who was making advances on a reluctant Lucy?”

Here’s a look at new coverage for Point Lookout, WET, Rogue Warrior, and Brink.

New Point Lookout reviews have surfaced. Up first, you can check out Game Trailers’ video review above. Elsewhere, The Adrenaline Vault enjoyed visit  Point Lookout saying:

“Overall, Point Lookout is a great piece of DLC. It really delivers on the exploration; I almost felt like I was playing an Elder Scrolls game. There are multiple side quests, ranging from traveling the map in search of a secret spy bunker to making moonshine. If you have spent hours exploring the Wasteland, then this is a no-brainer. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for?”

At CVG (the online site for PC Gamer UK), there’s a recap of the Games of E3 2009. Among the games they included on their “hit list” is Brink.

In WET news, TrueGameHeadz interviewed Creative Director Patrick Fortier, while new previews are up for the game at Xbox 360 Achievements and OXM UK.

Moving to Rogue Warrior, Gamasutra interviews Senior Producer Aeron Guy, while Shortlist.com asked questions with Demo Dick himself. Meanwhile, in preview coverage, Atomic Gamer put up a new preview for the game today.

In addition to plenty of Point Lookout coverage, we’ve got web updates for Brink, Broken Steel, and WET.

Starting with Brink, there’s lots to share. With the help of Steve ‘Badman’ Hessel, we’ve got a Facebook page up for the game. Join the group here.

In news, PlayStation Insider put together their E3 Wrapup, where they included Brink among their list of titles they wish they could’ve played. Here’s what they said:

“The first thing I said to myself when I sat down and watched the demo of Brink is this: ‘this is the only other game to look as good as Uncharted 2.’  Yes, Brink really does look sharp and it stands out.”

Moving on, GameShark interviewed Creative Director Richard Ham and Senior Game Designer Ed Stern at E3 to find more about the game. Here’s a sample:

GS (B): So my question is, for every class is there one specific action, multiple actions or is it still being worked on?

RH: First of all, it’s very much an RPG-Lite. As you’re earning levels and leveling up there’s a lot of new abilities you can unlock. You can choose to focus only one one class or spread out amongst all of them, but at any given point, right now at any given point, there are way too many things you that could be doing depending on what class you are, and right now we’re kind of limiting it to six.

Point Lookout Roundup

With Tuesday’s release of Point Lookout, there’s quite a few reviews now online. Here’s a rundown:

GameSpy called picking up Fallout 3’s 4th DLC a “no brainer.” Here’s a snippet from the review:

“The quest lines and exploration gameplay feel very Fallout, and you’ll want to walk through every inch of the map to make sure you don’t miss out on the many different landmarks tucked away in its farthest reaches. The battles can be quite challenging, and there’s plenty of creative, genuinely funny stuff here that’ll have as much of an impact as the greatest bits from the original game.”

Point Lookout is now available to download for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows. You can buy both versions online through the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and Games for Windows LIVE Marketplace (be sure to download the GFWL Client if you haven’t already) . Also be sure to check out the latest screenshots, the Point Lookout trailer, and the team diary on the creation of Point Lookout.

For the Games for Windows version of Point Lookout, make sure you have the latest game update (v 1.6). Get it here.

Point Lookout Diary, Screens (Updated)

Hello from London. Just wanted to let you know on the Fallout 3 Official Site, we’ve got a new Team Diary for Point Lookout. The diary was written by Joel Burgess and Nate Purkeypile, Lead Designer and Lead Artist for Point Lookout, respectively. In the diary, they discuss how DLC #4 came to be, and even share early images from the project’s development.

In addition to the diary, we’ve uploaded six new screenshots — including the image above. Head here to see the rest.

Point Lookout will be available for download on Xbox LIVE and Games for Windows LIVE this coming Tuesday, June 23.

Welcome back to another web update…shall we get started?

At The Escapist, we’ve got two things for you to check out. First, Emil shared a cool gaming anecdote with the site for a series called First-Person Gaming. To find out who pwn’d him in Call of Duty 4, click here. Also on the site, part-time mycologist Zach Miller has a column this week titled, “The Shrooms of Oblivion.” Here, he discusses the realism of Oblivion and how real-world plants (err mushrooms) add to the player immersion. Here’s a snippet of the column, where he talked with one of our artists, Noah Berry:

Noah Berry, an artist at Bethesda, said that using real-world plants was entirely in keeping with the Elder Scrolls series. “Personally, I’ve always found that some of the most vivid and absorbing fantasy worlds – in fiction, film or in games – have familiar elements operating as touchstones for the participant. Even if they only register on a subconscious level, the more realistic trappings can provide contextual grounding for the player.”

We’ll move along (since I hate mushrooms) to Bitmob, who have 21 Random Questions with Todd Howard. Learn about Todd’s favorite book and 20 other random things.

In other news, gaming site Pwn or Die has a feature on 11 of the Worst Virtual Jobs in Video Games. Check it out to see what Fallout 3 job was included (as well as two careers from Fallout 2).

There’s new coverage for WET and Brink too. Gamespot has a new interview with Ed Stern, Senior Lead Designer at Splash Damage. Elsewhere, a new preview for WET is up at Gamervision.

Gamervision also got a chance to see Brink at E3. Check out that preview here. For more on Brink head to Gaming Angels, Maximum PC, and finally Kotaku (AU) — who feature the game as one of The Top 10 Best Original Games of E3.
