New DLC Interview

UGO has a new interview with Fallout 3 DLC Producer Jeff Gardiner. Within the interview, he discusses all three announced downloads — Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, and Broken Steel. Here’s a snippet of the interview:

UGO: Does all of the DLC take place in maps outside of the DC Wasteland? How will you handle long distance travel to, say, Pittsburgh?

Jeff Gardiner: While this is true for most of the DLC, they all have ‘hooks’ in the main game.  “Broken Steel” itself will largely alter the game world in spectacular ways, and as always through player decisions.  To get to Pittsburgh, the player will have to find an abandoned railroad…

Fallout 3 DLC interview- Raising Level Cap, Continue Playing after End

screen03B1.jpg

Jeff Gardiner did a great interview with IGN about our first downloadable content – Operation Anchorage. The end of the interview is the part I am most excited about. Our third DLC, Broken Steel, will raise the level cap and let you continue to play the game after the main quest is done. Here’s a snippet from the interview:

IGN: The liberation of Alaska was hinted at a lot during Fallout 3. What can we expect out of that simulated battle?

Jeff Gardiner: In Operation: Anchorage the player will find themselves able to re-live the famous liberation of Anchorage from Fallout lore — inside a simulation similar to one found along the main quest of Fallout 3. Once the player finds their way into the simulation, they’ll be stripped of their resources and have to survive within the rules set up by the simulation’s creators.

The Chinese red army is everywhere, and the player will first have to secure the surrounding mountain side and then fight their way into the Chinese base. The player will have to use a lot of their standard combat skills, along with several new tools that will only be available in the downloadable content. These include interactive Strike Teams under the player’s command and unique armor, weapons, and other exotic gadgets.

In other news on IGN, they’ve got Fallout 3 listed as one of the best games of the year in their 2008 Year in Review features for PlayStation 3 and PC. Also, be sure to check out their video on how to obtain the Experimental MIRV. Check out the video after the jump.

Big news today! In a press release this morning, we announced the official editor for Fallout 3. Called the G.E.CK. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), PC gamers will be able to mod Fallout 3 to their heart’s content. The G.E.C.K. will be free and available for download next month. More details to come.

We also announced three downloadable content packs for Fallout 3 — beginning with Operation: Anchorage, which will be available for download on Games for Windows LIVE and Xbox LIVE in January. In February and March, we’ll be releasing The Pitt and Broken Steel.

Below are descriptions for all three DLC packs:

  • Operation: Anchorage – Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.
  • The Pitt – Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.
  • Broken Steel – Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

As reported on Major Nelson’s blog, there’s a new update now available for Games For Windows Live. If you haven’t already received the update already, the next time you play Fallout 3 (or any LIVE-enabled title), you’ll be prompted for an update that gives you a new LIVE guide. To see how the guide looks, Major Nelson has a Flickr page showing what the guide looks like.

Don’t forget that Fallout 3′s downloadable content will be exclusively available on Games for Windows Live and Xbox Live. This new update, which features a revamped interface and in-game guide, is the first step for Games for Windows Live Marketplace, where you’ll find our downloadable content.
