Weekend Update

As we head back into the work week, here’s some Sunday night entertainment from around the web…

When a website has a name like Bloody Disgusting, you’d think The Evil Within would have home field advantage. But when the category is Horror Game of the Year, it’s a game in good company. Help it win the award by voting here.

Elsewhere, VG247 examines how a game like Wolfenstein: The New Order succeeded as a first-person shooter without multiplayer. Here’s an excerpt:

“For this is a game from the past that should not work in the modern market. Wolfenstein is an offline-only, big-budget first-person shooter. It’s an anachronism, a modernisation of a dead genre. No one makes this type of game anymore, and that isn’t an exaggeration. If there were an Offline-only, Big-budget First-person Shooter Award for 2014, Wolfenstein would win by default. It led a market of one.”

Supporting VG247’s claim, this roundup offers even more Wolfy accolades, including:

Slate – Chris Suellentrop still has room for console shooters like Wolfenstein in his Top 10 list dominated by mobile titles.

The Escapist — The always-hard-to-please Yahtzee was actually quite pleased with Wolfenstein: The New Order, as he included it in his top 5 games of the year at numero dos! Watch his video here.

Hardcore Gamer — Selects Wolfenstein as its favorite Dark Horse game of the year.

Play.TM — Ranks Wolfenstein as their #5 GOTY!

G4TV (Canada) – Editor pick for GOTY (John Powell)

Game Spark — Wolfenstein gets acclaim from Asia — winning Game Spark’s PS4 GOTY!

Wrapping up this roundup is an interesting feature at GamaSutra discussing one of Wolfenstein’s throwback features — manually retrieving in-game ammo. Learn how this decision was managed in new feature written by MachineGames’ Jerk Gustafsson.

Oh wait, and then there’s 2015’s biggest dance craze — The Wazer Wifle! Watch the Fallout 3 tribute from Caedo Genesis in the embed at the top of this post.

It’s Beginning to Feel A Lot Like Christmas

TESV 2014-12-05 14-56-11-61“It’s Christmas in Skyrim” mod by Jijjy

There’s a chill in the air going into the holidays this year. That means its time for us to warm up by the fire and spend time with family and friends. We wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season as we head to 2015.

Happy Holidays everyone and a Happy New Year!

Bethesda TwitchWorks: It’s HALLOWEEN

Tomorrow we’re getting getting into the spirit (and perhaps costumes, too) for a Halloween edition of Bethesda Twitchworks — with plenty of tricks and treats (read: cool swag) to give away!

To kick off our Halloween party, we’ll start by mingling with vampires and werewolves in Skyrim’s first add-on, Dawnguard. Moving on from that, we will hobnob in Dishonored with the most prestigious resident of Dunwall at the annual masquerade party held at the Boyle Mansion.

We descend from elegance to grotesque as we check on our favorite ghouls residing in the Capital Wasteland’s Dunwich Building & and the blood-covered bosses from The Evil Within.

Tune in for our spooktacular Halloween feature this Friday (10/31) at 4pm EDT on Twitch.TV/Bethesda.

This week’s fanart is heavily influenced by The Evil Within, with many illustrations showing off gory creativity. With the game’s release happening in October, we’re excited to see what else you got! On the Storefront: Vault Boy’s Soft Side (Updated)

So soft and cuddly! Here’s a side of Vault Boy we haven’t seen before. Available from GamingHeads is the 12 inch Vault Boy plush. Not only will he add nicely to any Fallout collection, but he will also pacify the most nuclear of hearts.

Head on over to the official Bethesda store or directly to GamingHeads.com to secure one for yourself.

[Update] Also new to the store today, you can snag the very limited “Epic Story” giclee that showcases memorable symbols and images from Fallout 3.
