Congrats to DOOM II and Fallout 3 on being voted into next year’s exhibit, The Art of Video Games. The exhibition will be on display at the Smithsonian American Art Museum from March 16, 2012 through September 30, 2012.
While there won’t be a wing dedicated to the history of Vault-Tec, it should still be a great exhibit. Thanks to everyone that voted!
And by this, I’m referring to The Art of Video Games — a new exhibit coming to the American Art Museum in 2012. To prepare for it, Smithsonian is letting you vote for the games that will be on display.
It might take a second to load, but Fallout 3 can be found in Era 5′s Modern Windows category, while Oblivion is categorized under Xbox 360. Meanwhile, id’s DOOM II is listed in Era 4 under DOS/Windows.
Voting runs between now and April 7th. To get started, register here.
Happy Monday! Drinking my morning coffee, I was entertained by this Fallout 3 mod trailer on YouTube. Titled Mothership Zeta Crew: The Terran Starship Command, the mod can be downloaded at Fallout 3 Nexus here.
If you missed this on the internet yesterday, Epic Games artist Josh Jay has produced a very impressive replication of a Brotherhood of Steel helmet for use as a library throwdown mask. And, apparently, for terrifying children.
Starting from a papercraft model, he slowly transformed his mold into a wearable piece of armor — complete with functioning lights — over a period of several months. Pictures of his process can be found on his Facebook page, in not one, but two full galleries of photos. Nice work, sir!
This week on Xbox LIVE, Rock Band fans can download “Vault 101” — the popular fan tribute to Fallout 3 from “nerd rock” duo Kirby Krackle.
If you don’t have Rock Band and still want to hear the song, you can listen to it on the band’s official website, or simply watch the live performance above.
Concept artist Craig Mullins recently posted a few previously unreleased pieces of his work on Fallout 3. Just for fun, we’ve also put them up here on Bethblog, offering alternate visions of the Capital and its surrounding wasteland.
For comparison, check out the released concept art at the bottom of this page.
Just a quick reminder that our eBay auctions — with all proceeds going towards the Brian Wood Memorial Trust — end tomorrow. If you’re looking for some holiday gifts, here’s the items you can bid on:
One of the most commonly asked questions Nick and I receive is, “Where can I get some of the cool swag you give out at events?” While we don’t always have leftovers to use for giveaways, we were recently able to secure some pretty cool items for our games… and it’s all for a good cause.
As many of you already know, over Labor Day weekend, Company of Heroes Online lead designer Brian Wood was tragically killed in a car accident while saving the lives of his wife and unborn child. Since then, we’ve seen tons of support for Brian’s family from within game development community, and we decided that we’d like to help out, too. Over the past couple months, we’ve started working on collecting items to auction off on eBay — with all proceeds of the auctions going to The Brian Wood Memorial Trust.
Beginning today, these are the items we’re auctioning off:
All auctions are running now and will end in seven days. This is your chance to get some cool, limited stuff in time for the holidays. To those that win, we thank you for helping contribute to Brian’s family.
Update: Despite what the listing says, we will ship to winners outside of the US.
