New Fan Art Uploaded

Wanted to let you guys know we added new Fan Art to Bethesda Blog this week — including contributions from Raven Hall, Maya Brisa, Berit Jurda, Emma, Chimer Warrior and Anku Greedo. The image above is one of many new submissions from Anku Greedo — both for Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.

Around the web: Obama saves the wasteland edition

Inauguration here in DC has come and gone, and now our new President is hard at work on making change — both in the real world and in the Capital Wasteland. I had a few community members send me messages about the painting made by Dan Lacy. Speaking for everyone here, we’re speechless.

Moving on, two interesting op/eds you might want to read. First, at NPR, writer Glenn McDonald revisits the often brought up argument of whether games can be considered art. In his piece, he argues in favor of games being art and uses Fallout 3 as apart of his argument. Here’s a snippet:

“The images of the decimated DC skyline are genuinely haunting, and console graphics have now evolved to the point where you’re having a very-near-cinematic experience. The game is scored musically, just as a film would be, and the various cut scenes and combat reenactments follow the tropes of action cinema in a knowing “wink-wink” kind of way.”

The other piece I found interesting is Duncan Fyfe’s column at GameSetWatch comparing Fallout 3 to James Joyce’s collection of short stories — called the Dubliners. Previously unfamilar with the stories, I’ll be checking them out soon.

New Fan Art

Over in our Fan Art section, we added a few new submissions that you guys have sent to us. Lots of great stuff!

I particularly enjoyed this drawing of Butch Deloria by Maya Brisa — one of our regular contributors. Butch holds a place near and dear to my heart, as I did some of the temporary voice work for him before we put the final voice work in the game. It’s safe to say the game improved the day that happened.

Fallout ink spotting

Fallout fan Rob Schuster sent me an email sharing his experience getting a Fallout tattoo. Above is the final product. According to Rob, he just felt it was time to “honor the greatest game series of all-time.” The tattoo was inked by Tommy Partin at Designs by Dana (Cincinnati, Ohio). As you can see, the tattoo is quite large, measuring in at 4 1/2″ by 5″.

We adore fan art

It’s been a few months since we last featured Fan Art from the blog, so when I received this homage to the Adoring Fan from Raven Hall, I couldn’t resist sharing it.

If you haven’t checked out the Fan Art section on Bethblog, it’s over on the right column of the blog. As always, if you’ve got fan art to share with us (whether it’s Star Trek, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc.), shoot us an email.

What LEGO Elder Scrolls could look like…

Way back in September, we shared a link to some LEGO sets that were reminiscent of Fallout. This week, Senior Designer Kurt Kuhlmann pointed me to a thread in our forums where folks are discussing an Oblivion-inspired project using LEGOs. The project was created more than a year ago, but for those who haven’t seen it, it’s worth checking out. If you ask me, the creator did a fantastic job re-creating Oblivion.

Recent Fan Art

It’s been awhile since the last time we highlighted some new fan art on the blog, so I thought I’d give some shout outs to a few of our regular contributors.

Above you’ll find one of two Brotherhood of Steel 3D models that Rob Overall recently contributed to our Fan Art page. Having spoke to Rob, it sounds like he’s recently had a lot of free time, and it shows in his work. To see his work in motion, you can check out some videos he’s made using these models over on YouTube.

Ali TunÃ§ sent us another one of his fantastic Fallout-inspired concept drawings. This one, called “The Reactor’s Defender,” is probably one of my favorite submissions to date. As always, you can find Ali’s work on his website.

Lastly, not too long ago, we got several Elder Scrolls-inspired artwork from Maya. All of the art is impressive, but this one, entitled Demented, I find particularly hypnotizing. For more of Maya’s work, check out her page here.

Lutemoth mod interview

This week’s Elder Scrolls mod interview is with William DeJeu, otherwise known as Lutemoth. Since joining the Elder Scrolls community, he’s become known for his conceptual drawings working with the Tamriel Rebuilt mod team. William, who lives in the Vancouver area, is a Scorpio, enjoys long walks on the beach, and his favorite color is transparent.

Spooktacular Work!

We’re two days away from Halloween, and I’ve noticed on a few blogs people that gaming enthusiasts are carving their favorite videogame characters onto their pumpkins (check out some of the examples from Kotaku). I’ve seen plenty of good ones across the internets, with the Weighed Companion Cube one over on Joystiq being my favorite…until now.

Over the weekend, Cameron Swartzell e-mailed me the Vault Boy pumpkin you see above. Definitely gets the “thumbs up!”Here’s another shot of it in the light. Continue reading full article ›
