Bethesda Softworks Announces Earlier Release Date for Brink
Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced that its acclaimed first-person shooter, Brink, will be available one week EARLIER than originally scheduled. Brink will now first be available for purchase in North America on May 10th instead of May 17th, and in Europe on May 13th instead of May 20th.
“Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn’t see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready,” said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. “It’s apparent from the tremendous reaction so far that people are eager to jump online and play, and if we can make that happen earlier – we’re going to.”
Brink, an immersive first-person shooter under development at Splash Damage, a studio celebrated for its multi-player expertise, was named as the ‘Game of Show’ at Eurogamer Expo 2010, while G4TV.com declared “Brink takes shooters to a whole new level” and Destructoid.com proclaimed “it’s going to be one of the standout shooters of the year.” Blending single-player, co-op, and multiplayer action into one seamless experience, Brink features dynamic battlefields, extensive customization options, and an innovative control system. Brink will be released for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows.
Before we look forward to Skyrim, we first look back to Oblivion.
Last week we marked the fifth anniversary of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s release. In this episode of the podcast, we revisit the game that served as a landmark for Bethesda. Listen as key team members recount their memories of working on the project, followed by a roundtable discussion with Todd Howard and Pete Hines.
Following up our announcement about Dark Horse’s comic book series, we’re also pleased to announce we’re working with Del Rey on a novel based around the game’s world and characters. The novel, also titled “RAGE”, releases on August 30th and will be written by author and game writer Matt Costello.

Last Friday, over 1,000 Brink fans converged on Boston’s Black Falcon Terminal — an actual seaport nearby the PAX East convention center — for our massive Brink’d community event. The results are encapsulated in this early batch of photos (above).
As you’d expect, Brink was played non-stop for the duration, with 48 setups providing full 8-on-8 matches. Multiple developers from Splash Damage were on hand to chat with players and make sure the matches ran smoothly. Meanwhile, DJ R-Rated kept the music flowing, a staff of pizza runners provided a constant stream of food, a team of graffiti artists threw up tags on the walls, and much free stuff was given away.
At 10:15pm, one bank of Brink stations was set aside for our celebrity match, featuring Seth Killian of Capcom, Jason Kim and Matt Hooper of id Software, Abbie Heppe of Respawn, James Stevenson of Insomniac, Chet Faliszek of Valve, David Ellis of 343 Industries, Pete Hines of Bethesda, Paul Wedgwood of Splash Damage, and more. Following the match, a donation of $20,000 was made to the Penny Arcade charity Child’s Play in the winning team’s honor.
Thanks to everyone who attended for making this a night to remember. And if you didn’t get a chance to stop by, keep in mind that Brink hits stores in just a few months on May 17.
