It’s Morning Star 1st — Happy New Year to all! Writing in from the home front, here’s some things to know from around the web.

At Coub — a site dedicated to creating video shorts — they’re kicking off the new year with a competition giving tribute to Skyrim’s Dragon Shouts. By submitting your #fusrodah clip, you’ll have a chance to win a Skyrim print, a Jeremy Soule-signed soundtrack, and a copy of Skyrim Legendary Edition signed by Todd Howard. For details on how to submit your own Coub (and learn the official rules), visit here.

With a new year ahead of us, many gaming sites are taking one last opportunity to reflect back on some of their favorite moments in gaming from 2014. Back in May, Polygon heralded Wolfenstein: The New Order as one of the best shooters of the year — scoring it as a 9/10. Months later, they’ve also decided it’s one of the very best games of the year — ranking it as the #2 game of the year! Here’s a snippet from reviewer Arthur Gies:

“But it’s the people in it and their stories that hold everything together and setWolfenstein: The New Order above so many of its action contemporaries, that place it above so many story-based games in general. It’s the stories within that make it one of the best games of the year.”

Who else has Bethesda shout outs in their end of year awards? Read on below…

It’s Beginning to Feel A Lot Like Christmas

TESV 2014-12-05 14-56-11-61“It’s Christmas in Skyrim” mod by Jijjy

There’s a chill in the air going into the holidays this year. That means its time for us to warm up by the fire and spend time with family and friends. We wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season as we head to 2015.

Happy Holidays everyone and a Happy New Year!

Ghost of Christmas Card Past

Big thanks to the retro game-collecting crew at n0w.co for sending a special Christmas gift — a mint 1996 Bethesda Christmas card highlighting the release of The Elder Scrolls Chapter 2: Daggerfall.

Nearly 20 years old, only a select few folks (including Todd) were around when these cards went out. Almost as scarce is finding people that recall the use of Bad Dog — the unofficially official mascot of Bethesda back then. Maybe I can talk to Pete about bringing him back. :)

See our cards from this millennium in the slideshow below.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween2014_The_Keeper-2
In time for Halloween, The Evil Within’s lead concept artist, Ikumi Nakamura, provided this amazing (and timely) variation of The Keeper.

From everyone at Bethesda, we wish you a happy and safe Halloween weekend. While you’re haunting about, feel free to share your best Halloween creations and costumes using the hashtag #BethesdART or emailing us at [email protected].

T’was the Night Before Christmas…

The stockings have been hung and the lights are all out at the office. The Panzerhund is curled up on his platform while the Brotherhood of Steel keeps an eye on the premises. The Dovahkiin gets into a snowball fight with Boxman thus becoming Snowvahkiin. Just a normal holiday break when the team is away.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday as we go from Christmas into New Years. Here’s some festive art from us and the community. Happy Holidays!
