Badman at Splash Damage let me know there’s a new “Things You Were Too Afraid to Ask” developer profile on Splash Damage’s website. This time around, Audio Programmer Simon ‘Bazee’ Price talks about his job, his favorite game, and his awesome haircut. Here’s an excerpt:
How did you end up at Splash Damage?
Simon: I’d heard that Splash Damage were the best. I’d played Quake Wars and I very much enjoyed the depth of game play and the focus on teamwork. So when my current job was up, I went straight to Splash Damage and found that what I’d heard wasn’t far off the mark. I was extremely happy when Splash Damage offered me a position.

A few things worth checking out.
Following the announcement of Mothership Zeta and Point Lookout, Ctrl+Alt+Del has a new webcomic suggesting new ideas for Fallout 3 DLC. On my upcoming trip to Michigan, I’ll have to keep an eye out for any Vaults in Butterfield. Meanwhile, at AmazingSuperPowers, there’s another comic that appears to be Fallout inspired.
I’ve seen a couple amusing fan videos on YouTube this week. Pete sent me this first video, Oblivi-Watch, which is a fun spoof of Baywatch. Poor Adoring Fan — he takes so much abuse. The second video, Team Fallout, was recently uploaded by BGS forum member/modder TheTalkieToaster, successfully spoofs Team Fortress 2.
In other news, Kikizo’s staff has a new preview for WET on their site. In related news, there’s a new interview with WET’s Creative Director Patrick Fortier at NextGen Player. Here’s a snippet:
NGP: At this point in time, how much of the game is completed? Are there any recent or upcoming new developments for the game?
PF: We are currently putting the final touches to the game as we are quickly headed towards release. Most of our time is spent playing through all the levels, balancing different values and debugging the game!

It’s been a while since our last modding interview (don’t worry, more are on the way), but we return this week with an interview with Joel Klausen — better known as throttlekitty in the BGS forums. For a living, he works as an airport skycap at the local airport. He enjoys art and tinkering, so it’s no surprise to see hm modding games. When he’s not modding you might find him at a local diner or coffee shop, or hiking in the Black Hills during summertime.

This morning we put out a press release with some big announcements for Fallout 3.
Up first, we’re working on DLC for the PlayStation 3. We’ll be releasing Operation: Anchorage in late June, followed by the release of The Pitt and Broken Steel 4-6 weeks apart after. Later this year, PlayStation 3 users will also get…
…our next two DLCs, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta. Coming first to Xbox LIVE and Games for Windows LIVE in June and July, respectively, here’s a brief synopis on both:
* Point Lookout â€“ Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
* Mothership Zeta â€“ The aliens have returned, and they’re pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you’re tough enough to survive.
Finally, we’ve got three more Fallout releases coming to retail this year:
- Fallout 3 Game Add-on Pack #1 includes The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage on a disc and will be available for Xbox 360 and PC on May 26.
- The Fallout 3 Game Add-on Pack #2 includes Broken Steel and Point Lookout on a disc and will be available for Xbox 360 and PC in August.
- A Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition will be available in October. It will include the original game plus all five add-ons for $59.99 for Xbox 360 and PS3, and $49.99 for PC.
It’s worth noting that retail versions of the game add-on packs for PS3 are not possible and the DLC will only be available for download online via PlayStation Network.

In their latest “Things You Were Too Afraid to Ask Feature,” we get to learn more about Online Services Programmer Ed ‘MrEd’ Reid, Programmer Diogo ‘fozi’ Teixeira, and Technical Environment Artist Radek ‘ElDonaldo’ Szczepanczyk.
We continue to work with Splash Damage on a new project, and we’ll be sharing more details on the game soon.

Planet Fallout has a new interview with Broken Steel’s Lead Designer Alan Nanes. Here’s a snippet:
Was it difficult to make the decision to completely change the game’s original ending? And why did you choose that path?
Alan: This was the decision that we spent the longest time pondering when we all sat down to work out the details. We had to decide how much we were going to alter the ending and at the same time, make sure we didn’t invalidate the decisions that the player had made previously. It was a challenge to present everything to the player in a seamless manner, so the new content wouldn’t feel simply tacked on.
Over at NowGamer, there’s a five-page retrospective on Fallout 3 featuring Emil and Todd, and a comparison to Dark Side of the Moon.
Finally, there’s a new interview with yours truly up at Gamasutra. Thinking back now… I’m pretty sure Todd said I was one of the guys holding a shield in Counter Strike — not a “meat shield.” It’s been abbreviated to Meat Shield since — easier to say.

Fallout 3 is nominated in five categories: Ultimate Game of the Year, PC Game of the Year, PlayStation Game of the Year, Xbox Game of the Year, and Soundtrack of the Year. Additionally, Bethesda is nominated for Publisher of the Year, and Rogue Warrior is nominated in the The One to Watch category.

At SPOnG, there’s a new interview with Pete. Here’s an excerpt of Pete discussing Fallout 3’s new level cap — hitting tomorrow with Broken Steel:
SPOnG: Will there be enough quest experience to be had in Broken Steel for players to level up to 30 without having to grind on pre-DLC quests/enemies?
Pete Hines: No, probably not, and that wasn’t the intention. The intention was to remove the level cap so that if you have Broken Steel, regardless of whether you want to play that quest or not, or you want to start a new game from scratch, you can continue playing beyond level 20. Again, fans wanted to be able to take their characters to higher levels, so we included it. But it is not specific to the length of Broken Steel, at all. It is a very long climb to get from 20 to 30 and you’ll need to do a LOT to get there.

Broken Steel is in still in the news. This week, Game Revolution’s Nick Tan has a new preview for the upcoming DLC. Here’s a snippet:
“Before asking Alan Nanes (lead designer for Broken Steel) and Pete Hines (VP of Public Relations & Marketing) about how much experience is needed to reach the (perhaps) final level, I thought I would be clever by calculating it beforehand. Following the formula of needing 150 more experience to reach each subsequent level, you will need 66,700 experience to reach level 30 which is about 125% more experience than that needed at level 20 (29,450).”
