It’s been a while since we posted something about Tamriel Rebuilt — an extensive Elder Scrolls mod project that has community members rebuilding the whole continent of Tamriel one province at a time.
The TR team recently celebrated the the beta release of Map 2: The Antediluvian Secrets. According to their site, Map 2 is a continuation of the Telvannis region. The map is massive; containing over 580 exterior cells and more than 420 interior cells.
We tip our cap to the Tamriel Rebuilt team for their continued work on this project. For details on Map 2 and more, be sure to check out their blog.
Yesterday Planet Elder Scrolls announced its November Hall of Fame mods for both Oblivion and Morrowind. Congrats to all the modders — including Vality7, who was inducted for two Morrowind mods. Here’s a quick look at the newest inductees:
- The Neverhalls by Vality7 and Midgetalien: A dungeon mod inspired by Oblivion’s Ayleid Ruins.
- Vality’s Bitter Coast Mod by Vality 7: The plugin adds many more trees to the Bitter Coast to give the region a more dense atmosphere.
- Castle Almgard by Mr. Siika and Centurion: A new buyable castle Southwest of Anvil.
- Elegant Vests by Kafei (shown above): Divine Elegance in the Imperial Market District gets new threads — including new vests, gloves, and leather pants (yes!).
- RealSwords — Khajiit by waalx: RealSwords adds 100 new swords, sabers, daggers and knifes into Oblivion.

Back in June, BGS forum member Fliggerty arranged a Morrowind modding competition aimed at encouraging newcomers to the game’s ever-popular modding scene. With the success of the competition, he started up a second invitational, which runs through January 5, 2009.
Like the first invitational, this one centers around making a house mod. But wait — there’s new categories and rules. Interested? To find out more, head to the Morrowind Mods board.

How did you get involved with the Elder Scrolls modding community?
I have my uncle to blame for that, for leaving his copy out on his desk when I was visiting. I borrowed it for the evening, and a few lost hours later I’d already decided I was going to buy my own copy the next day. As it turned out, I was lucky enough to get the very last copy that my local games store had in stock. On installing it, I spotted the data files option in the launcher, visited the Elder Scrolls website to try and find out what it was for, spotted the modding forums, and things went downhill from there.
Until then I would often pick apart the data files from a game to see what I could change, but this was the first time I’d heard the term ‘modding’, or put any serious effort into it. I have to say that I’ve never regretted it for a second. Modding Bethesda games has become as much a part of the fun as playing them, if not more, and I specifically bought Oblivion and Fallout 3 with modding in mind.

Big news today! In a press release this morning, we announced the official editor for Fallout 3. Called the G.E.CK. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), PC gamers will be able to mod Fallout 3 to their heart’s content. The G.E.C.K. will be free and available for download next month. More details to come.
We also announced three downloadable content packs for Fallout 3 — beginning with Operation: Anchorage, which will be available for download on Games for Windows LIVE and Xbox LIVE in January. In February and March, we’ll be releasing The Pitt and Broken Steel.
Below are descriptions for all three DLC packs:
- Operation: Anchorage — Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.
- The Pitt – Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.
- Broken Steel — Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

Welcome back to another look at Fallout 3 coverage from around the web.
We’ll start with a few interesting articles I’ve read this week. Before reading these, be warned there are spoilers within these articles. Up first, GamesRadar’s Tyler Wilde has a three-page feature detailing how you can become “evil” within the game. Rather than just looking at things from the dark side, D. Riley at The New Gamer discusses morality issues from both sides — focusing on Tenpenny Tower quests. Meanwhile, at GamaSutra, Duncan Fyfe shares his opinion of the game while sharing what he believes the game signifies. Here’s a snippet:
“On your tour of D.C., you’re made to revisit all the initial promise inherent in that document, while you’re picking up the pieces and kicking around the ashes. The buildings stand remarkably intact, frozen in time, for you to look up at and think about how this all went to hell.”
Moving along, last week we let you know that Pete and Emil would be answering questions for their old friends at The Adrenaline Vault. That podcast (#8) is now available here. It’s been more than six years since The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was released, yet the game continues to have a strong following — largely because of the dedicated modding community for the game. Planet Elder Scrolls has announced their October Hall of Fame modding entries. Let’s give a round of applause to these nine modders for their excellent work.
- Darknut’s Little Weapons Mod Complete by Darknut: Mod replaces all the Weapon Textures in Morrowind, Tribunal & Bloodmoon. The mod requires that you have Morrowind and BOTH expansions.
- At Home Alchemy by Syclonix: This simplifies and makes alchemy projects more efficient in the game.
- The Underground 2 by Qarl: A new vampire quest full of romance, humor, and vampire bars. Sounds like an episode of True Blood.
- Enchanted Druid Treehome by AtomicDryad: In his first mod release, AtomicDryad adds a large Redwood tree just southwest of Imperial City. This “treehouse” is full intriguing stuff.
- Tabaxi Race by Luchaire: Adds a new race to the game…the Tabaxi!
- Nicos Scimitars by Nicoroshi: Adds some pretty wicked blades that pay homage to Morrowind.
- Smarter Mercantile Leveling by wavion: This mod changes how the leveling system for the Merchantile skill.
- Unique Landscapes: Entius Gorge by Phitt: A beautiful mod that adds a deep gorge to the Nibenay Basin Region.
- Realistic Flora by Quarn: According to Quarn, this mod will make all flora behave more realistically by changing their appearance when you harvest them (whether you are successful or not). Cool idea!

It was the time of Morrowind Game of the Year edition, and I found my way to the forums as I was looking for mods for the game. Originally I heard about Morrowind mods back at the Infinity Engine modding community Spellhold Studios, then called Forgotten Wars.
