With the Creation Kit’s release, fans can now upload, download, and install custom content through the Skyrim Workshop on Steam. Get a crash course by reading level designer Joel Burgess’ blog post, and be sure to read up on our list of best practices for modding. Need more help? Don’t forget to to check out the official Wiki at www.CreationKit.com. In the coming days and weeks, we’ll be sharing tutorial videos for beginners and experts alike. In addition to releasing the Creation Kit and Skyrim Workshop, today we’re allowing players to experience Skyrim as you’ve never seen it before with the Skyrim High-Resolution Texture Pack. Before downloading it from Steam, make sure your system requirements exceed Skyrim’s recommended specs before attempting to install, including Windows Vista/7, a minimum of 4GB of system RAM, and a DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with at least 1 GB of RAM and the latest drivers.
To help PC players get the most out of Skyrim, last month we shared info on NVIDIA’s official tweak guide. If you missed the guide or were overwhelmed by its massiveness, you won’t want to miss NVIDIA’s livestream event taking place tomorrow.
During the stream, NVIDIA’s Kris Rey and Andrew Coonrad will discuss the guide’s ins and outs. They’ll also be joined by two special guests from the Skyrim modding community — Martigen (Martigen’s Mutant Mod & Martigen’s Monster Mod) and Skyrim Nexus’ founder and operator, DarkOne.
Catch all the fun tomorrow (January 10th) on NVIDIA’s Twitch TV channel. The stream begins at 11 AM PST.
Above is the newly-released (and awesome) trailer for Andoran: Prologue — the second part of a Russian mod trilogy for Oblivion (part 1, Axis, is already available for download).
The mod is planned to be completed later this year. For more details on the project, visit the Andoran website. Just be ready to use Google translate if you’re not fluent in Russian.

Wanted to share this awesome Morrowind modding project, Morrowind Overhaul – Graphics and Sound, created by Kingpix and the rest of the Morrowind Overhaul Team. As the trailer shows, the mod dramatically enhances the video and audio for the game.
Wanted to share word on a few community contests that were brought to my attention.
The Nexus community sites (as in New Vegas Nexus and TESNexus) are closing in on reaching 2.5 million registered members. To celebrate the occasion, they’ve kicked off a modding competition on both site. The site’s administrator, DarkOne, details the competition’s rules here. Here’s an excerpt…
“Ergo the theme of this modding competition will be “The community we are in”. I’m hoping to see some great mods that cover users in the community that might have influenced you during your time here, the various sites of the community that you are a part of (it doesn’t just have to be the Nexus!) and what you like about the community.
The type of mod you make, be it a quest, a new landmass, a house or castle, NPCs, weapons, armour, etc. is totally up to you but I will look more favourably upon entries that have a quest in them because I’m a sucker for a good quest! That doesn’t mean a mod with a quest in is going to win, however, and if you come up with something really unique then I’ll probably love it! A Nexus defence mod, for example, where you defend fort Nexus from a horde of trolls with your fellow moderators wielding ban hammers by your side is something I’ve dreamt about… “
Elsewhere, TES Alliance has already kicked off their Salute to Skyrim contest. As the title indicates, it’s a competition where users are encouraged to pay tribute to Skyrim — whether it be a mod for Morrowind or Oblivion, artwork, poetry, etc.. Bethesda has a long history of supporting the modding community, and for good reason. It’s a science fact that mod tools make the world a better place: they make modders happy because they can mod, they make developers happy to see modders gaining experience, and they make fans happy to see an endless stream of content they can mess around with. So today we were pretty happy to finally confirm our plans to continue that support with Skyrim.
As Game Informer confirmed on Monday, Skyrim’s new engine has been dubbed the “Creation Engine.” Accompanying that engine will be the Creation Kit, our suite of level-building tools that we’ll be releasing to the community, much like the Elder Scrolls Construction Set for Morrowind and Oblivion.
The Kit was recently mentioned in the Game Informer article on the tech behind Skyrim. While we have nothing further to announce regarding the Kit at this time, give that article a read for more details on just how powerful these tools will be.
The video above is for Project Nevada, a work-in-progress New Vegas mod that includes plenty of nice features — including unique HUD visors, enhanced vision modes, new scopes, dynamic crosshairs, and even the ability to sprint and tackle (don’t miss the hilarious tackle at the 3:25 mark of the video).
