Modding Interview: DragoonWraith

HighLinePhoto.jpg

This week we’ve got a modding interview with Kevin Ryan (aka DragoonWraith). Kevin spends a lot of time working as a “Sheriff” for both The G.E.C.K. and TES Construction Set wikis — he’s helped us add some really cool features to both.

The 21-year-old hails from New York City and attends school out in Claremont, CA, where he’s studying to be an engineer at Harvey Mudd College.

Check it out after the break…

Here’s a look at the mods for Morrowind and Oblivion that earned Hall of Fame status in the month of August. Take a look…

Oblivion Mods

  • See You Sleep by mmmpld: This mod (shown above) allows your player to sleep in beds, rather than beside a bed.
  • Hashshashin Armor by Dimitri Mazieres: New armor inspired by Assassin’s Creed.
  • Myths and Legends: Weapons 2 by TemplarGFX, GrimDeath, SykoFox, GamerGirlx: Mod designed for high level characters that adds  14 unique artifacts to the game — each weapons having a different story to along along with it.

Morrowind Mods

  • Improved No Glow by Shadre: As the title indicates, this mod enhances the look of enchanted items.
  • Antares’ Big Mod by Arcimaestro Antares: With this mod you have special privileges with the lower ranking members of your faction.

Head to Planet Elder Scrolls for more details on these mods. Congrats to all the inductees.

Modding Update (Updated)

Thought I’d share some of the modding highlights I’ve seen in the last month for Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

Earlier in the year, we highlighted piratephil’s Survival Perk Pack. Recently, he let me know that his latest project, Vault Dwellers Survival Cooking Guide, is now available. As the title would indicate, the mod adds a new cooking element to the game with the following features:

  • The Cook-o-matic 3000 — a new house item which you can be purchased from the stores in Megaton and Tenpenny.
  • Two new books — The Joy of Cooking for One and How to Eat Rat.
  • Five new food items, along with the ability to create two recipes already in-game (Mississippi Quantum Pie and Mole Rat Wonder Meat).
  • Master Chef — A new quest perk which you gain once collecting all the recipes.
  • Two new loading screens.
  • Plus VDSC-Manual.pdf, game manual (see screenshots for images).

Modding Interview: Cipscis

FFVII_Cloud_menu_1169535463.jpg

Welcome back for another modding interview. This week we journey to Auckland, New Zealand to meet Mark Hanna (aka Cipscis). Mark is currently a university student (studying Biomedical Enginneering), and when he’s not studying, he enjoys Taekwon-Do, which he took up at age 10.

On to the interview…

What originally brought you to our forums?
I bought Oblivion in mid 2007, which lead me to occasionally browse the Elder Scrolls homepage. I’d never been part of an online community before, but eventually I became curious enough to click on the “Forums” link. I actually managed to spend about a week on the forums without even knowing that mods for Oblivion existed, but once I found the Oblivion mods forum I quickly moved my attention there. I was (and still am) impressed with the community on the BGS forums, which is the main reason why I’m still around two years later. I see now that I was very lucky that my first encounter with an online community was with one as great as what we have here.

Back in March, we shared news that Planet Fallout had started a modding competition called Project Safehouse, which centered around creating user-made Vaults with The G.E.C.K. Today they announced the winners in all three categories — Personal Vault, Corporate Vault, and Government Vault.

Here’s a quick look at the winners, who each scored an e-GeForce 9800 GTX video card from the folks at nVidia.

Around the web

In addition the the Brink coverage, I thought I’d share some updates on WET, Fallout 3, and even Oblivion.

At Entertainment Weekly, there’s a new feature on 11 Videogames Spawned by Summer Movies, which includes WET as the game draws inspiration from Grindhouse flicks and the works of Quentin Taratino and Robert Rodriguez. Those seeking for information on WET should check out G4TV’s video interview with Lead Designer Ash Ismail. Additionally, new previews are up at Binge Gamer, NowGamer, and Ready Up!

Modding Interview: ElminsterEU

FO3Edit1.jpg

This week’s modding interview is with ElminsterEU. Originally from Germany, he now lives in Australia, and indicates he has no plans of leaving. When he’s not modding, he works as a Lead Architect for a relationship database management system. His hobbies include reading science fiction and fantasy novels, pen-and-paper RPGs, swimming, and scuba diving. I guess the scuba diving wasn’t that great in Germany.
