Brink Roundup: More from PAX 09 (Updated)

It’s only been about a week since our last blog post on Brink, but there’s already plenty of new coverage — courtesy of the game’s appearance at GamesCom and PAX.

We begin with Giant Bomb — watch Brad Shoemaker’s interview with Game Director Paul Wedgwood above.

Planet Elder Scrolls Hall of Fame

Oblivion Mods

  • See You Sleep by mmmpld: This mod (shown above) allows your player to sleep in beds, rather than beside a bed.
  • Hashshashin Armor by Dimitri Mazieres: New armor inspired by Assassin’s Creed.
  • Myths and Legends: Weapons 2 by TemplarGFX, GrimDeath, SykoFox, GamerGirlx: Mod designed for high level characters that adds  14 unique artifacts to the game — each weapons having a different story to along along with it.

Morrowind Mods

  • Improved No Glow by Shadre: As the title indicates, this mod enhances the look of enchanted items.
  • Antares’ Big Mod by Arcimaestro Antares: With this mod you have special privileges with the lower ranking members of your faction.

Details on Fallout 3 DLC and Game of the Year Edition

Below are details on Fallout 3 DLC for PlayStation 3, as well as an update on Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition.

PlayStation 3 Downloadable Content

Today we released an update for the PS3 version of Fallout 3 that addresses a number of issues, includes some optimizations, and adds trophy support for the DLC. The first DLC for PS3, Broken Steel, will be available next Thursday, September 24th. That will be followed by the release of “Operation: Anchorage” and “The Pitt” on October 1st, and “Point Lookout” and “Mothership Zeta” on October 8th.

These dates are for English versions of the game. As soon as we have updates for other territories, we’ll let you know.

Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition

We are also pleased to announce that Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC) will be available at retail on Tuesday, October 13th.  The Game of the Year edition includes Fallout 3 and all five DLCs. The discs will include the title updates you will need to play the DLC — so an online connection is not required.

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will retail for $59.99 and the Games for Windows version will be available for $49.99.

Fallout 3 Theme for Xbox LIVE

A premium theme for Fallout 3 will be released on Xbox LIVE on Oct. 1 free of charge for all players who have purchased all five Fallout 3 Game Add-ons by September 22. Gamers who have purchased all five Game Add-ons (via DLC, English only), including “Operation: Anchorage,” “The Pitt,” “Broken Steel,” “Point Lookout” and “Mothership Zeta”, will receive a token from Microsoft to download the theme for free starting Oct. 1.

This is something we’ve been asked about a lot and we’re happy to finally be able to bring it to fans as a small token of our appreciation. If you haven’t purchased all five DLCs, you can still buy the theme for 240 Microsoft Points when it comes out on Oct. 1.

The premium theme was put together by two of our artists — Istvan Pely and Clara Struthers. Also, special thanks to the crew at Microsoft who went through a fair amount of trouble to go through and figure out everyone that had purchased all five DLCs (or will by Sept. 22). We hope you enjoy it.

Get WET Today!

The day is here. WET is now available in North America on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (European territories will get this game this Friday). Combining acrobatics, shooting and sword play, WET gives you the freedom to use dual pistols or your samurai sword as you take on countless enemies in a number of exotic locations around the globe.

With the release of the game, reviews are already making their way online. Team Xbox awarded the game their Editor’s Choice award saying:

“We’ve come to expect certain things from the third-person shooter genre, but A2M has succeeded in surprising us with their creativity. The variety of gameplay elements that make up Wet help make it a standout release for 2009 and it’s sure to raise the bar for those that follow.”

WET Roundup: Eve of Release Edition

We’re just a few hours from the North American release of WET, so this is my last chance to share some previews. For good measure, I’ll throw in a couple interviews, too.

Last week Mark Walton of Gamespot UK went hands-on with Rubi’s Boneyard — Rubi’s home in the game, which has plenty challenges of its own. Here’s a snippet:

“The Boneyard is a desolate place, full of broken-down planes and run-down vehicles smack bang in the middle of the desert, more than slightly reminiscent of the aircraft graveyards featured in films like Con Air. Yet this is Rubi’s home, and like any good action hero, her home is stocked full of guns and platforms to keep her amused–but make no mistake, this is no Croft Manor. The Boneyard level will be accessible at any point in the game, and you will be able to use it as a training ground for new skills picked up during the single-player campaign. You can also participate in time trials and challenges.”

So we know WET‘s all about stylish action coupled with a Tarantino-esque narrative; how significant is the story told in the game? Do you think games have the ability to tell memorable tales just as well as other mediums such as films?

AW:I think story is important in giving context to the situations in the game.  It’s more fun taking on enemies and working your way through levels if you understand why your protagonist is there and if you’re given a lot of flavour to your bad guys.  I think that’s something we do quite well in WET.

New Splash Damage Dev Profile

In more Splash Damage news, a new developer profile is up on their official site. This time around, they’ve got with Brink Character Artist (and Aussie-native) Ben ‘Mantegra’ Davis. Since folks always ask me how to get into the industry, I’ve chosen this snippet from the interview to share…

Do you have any tips for people wanting to break in?

Ben: You have got to have passion and love games if you want to work in this industry. If you want to be an artist but you don’t like playing games then this business is not for you. Practice, practice and practice some more. Learn as much as you can about the industry and above all else be persistent. Become a member of the online gaming community and get your name out there. Post your work on forums regularly and get constructive feedback. Always keep improving your skills in your spare time and keep up to date with the latest games technology. Presentation is key to a good portfolio.

A2M celebrates WET’s release

WET doesn’t get released until tomorrow, but that didn’t stop the team at A2M from celebrating the game’s release last week. They partied down at Foufounes Electriques in Montreal with live performances by The Hypnophonics and The Brains — both contributed to the soundtrack for the game.

PAX ’09: Brink Roundup

As promised, here’s a web update on Brink coverage coming out of PAX. Above is a cool shot of our Brink booth, which during downtime used LED lights to display screenshots from the game.
