This week we’re proud to present a new Wolfenstein developer commentary courtesy of senior gameplay designer, Andreas Öjerfors and team at Machinegames. Andreas takes us on an intimate journey through the development of Chapter 12, the Gibraltar bridge.
Following the commentary we’ll be taking it back to a classic time, a Wolfenstein 3D time to see just how far we can get through the game. Be sure to tune in for this nostalgic and informative Wolfenstein adventure — you could even win a copy of “The Art of Wolfenstein: The New Order“!
For a retrospective on the game, Nick and I recently sat down with John Carmack for a director’s commentary track. Watch the video above, as he discusses his memories of the game while playing the original DOS release.
Last but not least, we’ve put up two Wolfenstein items on Xbox LIVE’s Avatar Marketplace. Purchase a Wolfenstein t-shirt (male/female) for 80 Microsoft Point and the Classic B.J. Blaskowicz Mask for 160 points.
Have a favorite memory of Wolf 3D? Feel free to share it with us in the comments section.

Congratulations are in order for Game Informer, who are celebrating the release of their 200th issue. To commemorate the occasion, they’ve put together a list of The Top 200 Games of All Time. Among the games included on the list are DOOM (#6), Oblivion (#30), Fallout 3 (#65), Morrowind (#101), Quake 2 (#132), and Wolfenstein 3D (#139). Additionally, the top eight games on their list each received a special edition cover. Above is the cover made for DOOM. You can check out the other seven at Game Informer’s website.
Be on the lookout for the 200th issue on newsstands or in your mailbox.
Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum has been released on the iTunes App Store for the low price of $1.99. This updated version of Wolfenstein 3D Classic features all of the original six episodes and all 21 levels from the Spear of Destiny!
It also includes five new bosses, such as The Death Knight and Ubermutant. This update also allows for users to download custom maps (instructions here) and brush up on their id Software trivia.
If you already have Wolfenstein 3D Classic, this update is free. Simply go to the ‘Updates’ section of the App Store to upgrade to Wolf 3D Platinum.
We have had some users report crashes and HUD issues when applying the Platinum update from the previous version. If you experience these types of issues, removing and reinstalling the Application will fix it.
If you’re interested in the title, you’ll be happy to hear that id has plans for DLC for the game, as well as plans to bring other popular franchises, like Quake, to the iPhone and iPod touch. For details on Quake Resurrection and more, check out these blog posts:
