This…is Medieval Games!

No, we’re not making a game based on the Cable Guy, but that scene above was the first thing that came to mind when I learned about Medieval Games, a new title coming to the Nintendo Wii from our sister studio, Vir2L Studios. Here’s a bit from the game’s press release:

From battling dragons and storming the castle, to catapulting and archery contests, Medieval Games offers hours of fun for the entire family. Choose from a variety of colorful characters, such as the knight, princess, bard, or wizard as you compete in a variety of game modes. Tournaments and jousting await in this rich fantasy world!

The game is early on in it’s development, but I wanted to make sure it’s on your radar. Additionally, Vir2L is working on ZeniMax’s first iPhone (and iPod touch) game — Scram Sam.

For more details on these titles, keep an eye on Vir2l’s new site.

Congrats to our guys, including Emil Pagliarulo, Erik Caponi, Brian Chapin, Jon Paul Duvall, Kurt Kuhlmann, Alan Nanes, Bruce Nesmith, Fred Zeleny and the rest of the Fallout 3 team.

The winner of the Videogame Writing Award will be announced at the 2009 Writers Guild Awards on February 7.

Games for Windows LIVE Marketplace & Fallout 3

The 1.1 title update for PC that was just released today also includes an extra feature — it deploys the Games for Windows LIVE Marketplace app that Fallout 3 will use to release downloadable content for the PC. It will appear as a separate application in your Start Menu under Microsoft Games for Windows LIVE. You can also download the app separately from Microsoft’s Games for Windows site.

To access GFWL Marketplace, you will need to join Games for Windows LIVE, which is free. However, if you’re already are a member of Xbox LIVE (silver or gold), you can use your Xbox Live gamertag and login with Games for Windows Live. Think of this as the PC equivalent to Xbox LIVE. It even uses Microsoft points just like Xbox LIVE.

If you log in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag, it will automatically recognize your pool of Microsoft points, too.

The first DLC for Fallout 3, Operation: Anchorage, will be available on Games for Windows LIVE and Xbox LIVE on Tuesday, January 27th.

To download and read the update’s release notes, head over to the Fallout 3 Official Site. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users with online connectivity will receive a notification of the update upon starting the game.

As noted last week on the blog, Games for Windows has a Connect & Win contest — where if you’re logged into Games for Windows LIVE and playing Fallout 3, you have a chance to win one of their daily prizes.

Today kicks off the last week of the contest with a chance to a Fallout 3 Survival Edition. So boot up the game, log into your Games for Windows LIVE account and cross your fingers.

OXM GOTY

No, that doesn’t stand for Only Xylophone Managers Guard Operating Train Yards. We received the latest issue of OXM and discovered that Fallout 3 was named their 2008 Game of the Year!

In addition to their year end awards, they also look ahead to the games they’re excited for in 2009 (with Fallout 3 DLC coming in at #17). So what game are you looking forward to most in 2009? I listed a few candidates on the current blog poll.

Because of the holidays, this was the first week back at the office for many folks, and boy, did it feel like a long week. This week’s “What we’re playing” is coming a little late, because as soon as I got home on Friday, all I wanted to do is relax and play games — finishing Dead Space and finally getting to Left 4 Dead.

Here’s this week’s rundown. Tell us what you’ve been playing this weekend.

Emil Pagliarulo, Fallout 3 Lead Designer & Writer: King’s Bounty (pictured above), Dead Space, World of Warcraft, Mount and Blade, and Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Craig Lafferty, Producer: Kings Bounty, LittleBigPlanet, Midnight Club: LA, iPhone.

Ryan Lea, Programmer: Valkaryia Chronicles!

Orin Tresnjak, Graphics Programmer: Ninja Gaiden 2, Red Alert 3, Prince of Persia.

Andrew Scharf: Fable 2, Beyond Good and Evil, and just started playing Persona 4… which will probably take up all of my time the next month or so.
