Prepare for the Future: Now Online and Fully Operational

During E3 week, we launched a new Fallout site, prepareforthefuture.com. For the past two months, content of the site has only been teased. Starting today, you can go through and explore the nooks and crannies of the site, which are divided into different channels.

Plenty of hard work went into the site, so we hope you have as much fun checking it out as we’ve had putting it together.

But enough talk. Head over to the site and let us know which channels you like best.

Chatting with Vault Dwellers from PAX

Last month at PAX, we had plenty of memorable moments at our booth. One of my personal favorites was when a group of three guys in Vault 13 costumes showed up to see the game. We were so blown away by the effort they put into their costumes, we gave them a chance to kick back, drink some Nuka-Cola and play Fallout 3 within our Airstream trailer.

Recently I caught up with the trio to talk costumes, PAX, and Fallout 3. Check it out after the break.

Inside the Vault: Terry Dunn

Inside the Vault presents Terry Dunn, quality assurance tester.

What’s your job at Bethesda?
I am a quality assurance tester, which basically means I get to play games for a living. While it may sound like a glorified position to some, it actually requires persistence, conviction, and thoroughness. It’s my job to track down issues in our games, find a way to reproduce it if possible, and then write a report up for it and submit it to the developers for review. When fixes come in, I double check it to make sure the problem has been resolved.

Planet Fallout site launches

planetfallout01.jpg

Briosafreak, creator of Fallout 3: A Post Nuclear Blog, let me know that a new fansite, Planet Fallout, has launched on the IGN Network. Kudos to Teddy Pierson (Editorial Manager), Briosafreak (Site Director), and the rest of the Planet Fallout team, who have already made the site a great place for finding information and discussing all things Fallout. With Fallout 3 launching in October, there’s plenty of cool stuff on the horizon — including game guides, detailed maps and quest guides.

Like Planet Elder Scrolls, it’s a community-driven fansite — so feel free to contact the guys working on the site to express your interest in helping. They’ve already got a great group working on the site, but they’ll also be looking to YOU for ways to improve it.

Best of luck guys!

Fallout 3 Speed Run: It was that close

phelps_touchd.jpg

In what’s become a tradition here at the office, the development team holds a speed run competition near the launch time. With Fallout 3 readying for release in October, the Fallout 3 Speed Run final was held on Friday, September 5th. To the winner: a pie of their choosing.

Back at E3, Todd talked some game — claiming that when it came for the speed run, he’d be the one coming out victorious. Umm…not quite. The finals came down to level designer Jeff “Live the Dream” Browne and QA Tester (and the most recent cover boy for Inside the Vault) Sam”I Am” Bernstein.

What we’re watching

This week we’re letting you know what we’re watching, since it’s a good time to be watching the tube. Summer is nearly over, Fall TV is coming back, football is on, and well, there’s this show called Hole in the Wall. I watched it last night, and all I can say is…wow.

Let us know what you’re watching on TV these days. Have a great weekend.

Fred Zeleny, Designer/Writer: Arrested Development, 30 Rock, and the Steelers on Sunday.

Erik J. Caponi: I’m watching the stupid “acquiring channels” spinning wheel on my Tivo while I wait for the cable company to come fix it.

Ruben Brown , QA Certification Lead: Remainder of Heroes 2, Righteous Kill, Football on Sunday.

Modern Ruin

Recently I received an email from a fan named Maurice Moynihan regarding a new art exhibit at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia. He mentioned to me that he couldn’t help but think of the game we’re working on when he saw images from the exhibit, entitled Modern Ruin. The picture above definitely looks like it could be somewhere in the Capital Wasteland.
