While our BFG event was more than two weeks ago, there’s plenty of new coverage to share for RAGE, Skyrim, Prey 2, and Hunted.
Don’t miss last Friday’s GTTV episode, which featured a new Skyrim interview with Todd Howard, as well as a first look at RAGE’s Subway Town. Catch both segments at GameTrailers.com.
If podcasts are your thing, Giant Bomb has 40 minutes of discussion on Skyrim, RAGE, and Prey 2. While I highly recommend the entire podcast, the BFG coverage starts just before the 50-minute mark. Elsewhere, Shacknews’ Garnett Lee shares his Skyrim impressions in episode 57 of Weekend Confirmed (scan ahead to the 33:25 mark of the podcast), and also divulges on why he’s so excited for RAGE in episode 58. Head to iTunes to download all three podcasts.
We’ve always been dedicated to our PC fanbase, and with Brink hitting shelves in less than two weeks, we’re here today to clarify just what we have in store for PC players regarding dedicated server support.
One additional note before we get down to business — we’re currently shooting to have Brink available to pre-load on Steam prior to the game’s release. We’ll have more specific info on that in the days to come.
Now, let’s get this FAQing underway:
What is the Brink Standalone Dedicated Server?
The Brink Standalone Dedicated Server allows anyone to run multiplayer servers for the PC version of Brink. As the server is standalone, it does not require a full version of Brink to be installed and is completely free.
Where will I be able to get the Brink Standalone Dedicated Server?
The Brink Standalone Dedicated Server will be available for download via Steam prior to release. Once the server is available, you can simply browse to the Tools tab in your Steam client and grab it from there.
As the countdown to Brink’s release continues so does our Get SMART Series. Check out the General Gameplay tutorial above and you’ll feel like an expert on day one — or at least day two. Day one, you’ll at least feel extremely competent. Better than your friends, surely.
We have more videos in store, so check back later for another lesson.
With a new project coming out this year, we’d like to kick off another round of Q&A’s with Bethesda Game Studios developers. Today, meet Jeff Lundin, one of our systems programmers.
What is your job at BGS?
I am responsible for creating and maintaining Skyrim’s brand new scripting language. This usually involves not only creating new language features and functions, but also writing up a metric ton of wiki documentation, various external tools (which includes a full-blown compiler), editor additions, and on-the-spot support for other coders, designers and artists working with the new system.
We continue our SMART Series with a video showcasing the variety of objectives you’ll tackle while playing Brink. Learn more about the Objective Wheel, Command Posts, class-specific requirements for objectives, and much more.
Watch the video above and come back tomorrow for another lesson.
In addition to the photos we shared last month, we wanted to post this highlight video for our Brink event at PAX East. Everyone at the event had a blast, and we definitely look forward to doing something like this again.
Big thanks to Splash Damage, iam8Bit Productions, our crew, and all the fans that attended — it was a great night for all.
We’re pleased to release the first video in Brink’s ‘Get SMART series’. With only two weeks to go until Brink hits shelves, we thought we’d offer up some helpful advice on how to get to grips with the innovative new shooter.
Stay tuned for more videos from this series. Brink releases on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in North America on May 10, 2011 and across Europe on May 13, 2011. For more information on Brink visit www.BrinkTheGame.com.
In other news, be sure to visit our forums for updates on the game from senior producer Jason Bergman. In a post from earlier this month, he gave a status report on New Vegas DLC and incoming game updates. Regarding the latter, today he’s posted details on the balance tweaks being introduced in Monday’s Steam update. For those playing on consoles, we’re still waiting to hear on the exact date it’ll be available for you… stay tuned.
Update (4/30): The update should be available worldwide on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Regarding the Xbox 360 update, the new game update is live for the game.
