More Oblivion Love in Japan

This morning Claff spotted that Oblivion was rated as the second-highest reviewed game of 2007 in Famitsu, a popular Japanese gaming magazine. Oblivion’s cumulative review score of 38 only trailed The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, which had a score of 39. So what are these numbers based on? Well, each game is reviewed by four editors on a 1-10 scale. That means Phantom Hourglass was only one point from perfection on their review scale, with Oblivion being only two points off. Here’s a rundown of their top five:

1. Phantom Hourglass – 39
2. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360 version) – 38
3. Super Mario Galaxy – 38
4. GTA San Andreas (PS2) – 38
5. Call of Duty 4 (360) – 37

We already knew Famitsu’s editors enjoyed Oblivion, but it’s still nice to see the game’s positive reception in Japan. To check out the rest of list, head over to Videogaming247.

  1. Makes sense – I can see the Japanese enjoying Oblivion.

When can we expect the next chapter in the Elder Scrolls series? I’ve been playing video games since Pong was a “new release”, and Oblivion is easily the best game I’ve ever played.

  2. Deserved. You guys really made an astonoshing game. I played the main quest on my crappy 4 year old PC at about 15-20 fps outdoors, 7-12 fps indoors, but it was worth it…
Now I’m waiting to get a new PC to experience all the other quests and the Oblivion world again… a little smoother this time 🙂

  3. When I first got oblivion it was absolutely amazing to me, still to easy and quick in my opinion but still it is and was awesome. When a person starts modding though most of the fun of playing seems to go away as everything is known and now you just want to make your own story.

  4. Have you released a PC version of the Japanese localised version? If you have then I might have to try finding one of them and playing it. No I’m not going to buy an xbox just to play Japanese Oblivion.

  5. Congrats to you. That’s really impressive!

What I don’t get is how GTA beat Call of Duty 4 to 4th place. Still, 5th is really good.
