G.E.C.K. Quick Tips #2: Enclave Bunker Kit & Snap to Reference

In our continuing series of tips for using The G.E.C.K., Fallout 3’s PC editor, Level Designer Jeff Browne put together the following video, entitled “Bunker Kit & Snap to Reference.”

Below is a quick note on the video from Jeff about the video:

Because of the scope of our games, it’s necessary for our artists to build robust, flexible kits that allow us to re-use a relatively small number of assets in a wide variety of combinations. Thanks to these kits, level designers can create unique Vaults, offices or utility areas without the need for specialized art.

Learning to work with a new kit can be a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating process. Kits are composed of inter-locking pieces and it can take a while to get accustomed to the nuances of working with each one. The Enclave Bunker Kit is relatively small, but working with it can be as difficult as the larger kits. In this video, I explain the kit and how it’s to be used. This tutorial will also teach you how to work quickly with Reference Snapping.

  1. Hey!

I seem to have a problem while mapping, when i reopen my map/creation i’ve mapped, parts of it seems to disappear.. Any clues how to avoid this? The editor also crashes while saving.. Maybe that’s the answer, but i’m not sure. The parts seem to disappear after i’ve saved too.

    Thanks in advance

  2. I’m a bit confused as far as the G.E.C.K. is concerned.
I create a cell, then save it. Once I open it up the second time, I work on it, but cant save because “its either a master file or in use”. SO then I save as a mod file with a different name. IN the data files list if I select both the old and new, only the old shows up ingame, and if I select only the new one, only the things I added to the old are floating in the middle of nowhere.

When I save shouldnt it save everything under the new file name? That seems obvious to me that it should… And why cant I save one and keep working on it?

  3. Sup Bethesda. Thanks for the great games. Please, let Fallout 3 be the last game that you fail to fully support for the PS3. I’ve been a fan for a very long time, but if the PS3 version of your next game gets shafted in dlc once again, I won’t be purchasing it.

  4. Hi, I seem to be having a similar problem like Mushroomcar, when I make my vault I will go test it in Fallout 3. After that I add furniture and all, I go back to test it and half the vault is missing!! Need help!
