What we’re listening to: Podcast edition

This week we’re discussing the podcasts we listen to keep us entertained during down time. With a 60-70 minutes commute each day, podcasts like 1Up Yours (R.I.P.), Pardon the Interruption, and now Rebel FM have become life savers for me.

Speaking of podcasts, OXM is celebrating their 150th podcast today…congrats guys! You’ll want to give this one a listen, as there’s a new interview with Todd Howard.

From the folks here at Bethesda, we hope you all have a great weekend. We leave you with our favorite podcasts to listen to…

Matt Grandstaff, Community Manager: Rebel FM, 1Up Yours (RIP), A Life Well Wasted, Full Moon Podcast, Bungie Podcast, PTI.

Jay Woodward, AI Programmer: Rebel FM, the Geekbox, the Gamers With Jobs Conference Call, the Joystiq Podcast, the Rachel Maddow Show, the Non-Prophets, the Official Lost Podcast, the Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe, Real Time with Bill Maher, misc. gaming sessions from RPGMP3.com, Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me, This American Life.

Michael Lattanzia, QA: Check Your Hud.

Ashley Cheng, Production Director: This American Life, The Rachel Maddow Show, Creative Screenwriters, official Scrubs, NPR’s Food, The Moth, Planet Money.

Dane Olds, Artist: 1Up Yours (RIP), Rebel FM, Geekbox, Area 5, Gamers with Jobs, Bombcast.

Rashad Redic: Movies You Should See, Filmspotting, Home Theater Guys, and This Week In Tech.

Ray Lederer: Fanboy Radio, KEXP Seattle – Music that matters, NPR – All Songs Considered, NPR – This American Life, NPR – Fresh Air, NPR – Car Talk, and Air America Radio – The Thom Hartmann Program.

Cory Dornbusch, QA Tester: ReAnimators Podcast, The Animation Podcast, Conceptart.org Podcast!

Andrew Scharf, QA: Rebel FM, The Joystiq Podcast, 1Up Yours/The 1Up Show, The Geekbox, This American Life.

Chris Esko: Idle thumbs, Extralife Radio, Squadron of Shame, and Skeptics Guide to the Universe.

Craig Walton, Senior Software Engineer: GeekBrief.TV, Leo Laporte – The Tech Guy, and 3 Wine Guys.

Ryan Salvatore, World Artist: Joystiq Podcast, Stuff You Should Know, Planet Money, Sound Investing, On the Money, and the occasional Penny Arcade podcast.  I’m looking for more gaming podcasts, so I’m currently checking out Rebel FM and looking for more.

Aaron Mitschelen, QA: Podcasts are teh evil. Give me something I can read thoroughly, skim, or scan — I hate listening through drivel for one interesting sentence!

Louis Riley, QA: Radiolab.

Matt Killmon: You Look Nice Today, This American Life, Downloadable Content (the Penny Arcade Podcast).

Nate Ellis: 1Up Yours (/mourn), This American Life, The instance, and occasionally Planet Money and Big Ideas.

Nate Purkeypile, King of Cheese: Idle Thumbs, Played, and 1Up Yours :(.

Fred Zeleny, Game Designer: I don’t generally listen to anything with words when I’m writing, because it throws me off. Surreal comedy at You Look Nice Today, fine mashups at Ramdom Thoughts, news and comedy from the podcast of Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me, and indulging my geekiness with the D&D Podcast.

Brent Krische, QA Tester: I listened to the MKast podcast while Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was still in development, and I listen to Daizenshuu Ex’s and Major Nelson’s podcasts every-so-often.

John Pisano: I like Well-Told Tales. They’re 15-30 minute stories in the sci-fi, horror or hardboiled genres.

Sam Bernstein, QA: Area 5’s Co-Op (Good to have you folks back!), NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, Coverville, and A Prairie Home Companion’s News from Lake Wobegon.

  1. I’m going to own up here and say that it’s 2009 and I’ve never listened to a podcast. In fact, I had to look up the term on urbandictionary.com to figure what it was.

Now that I’m more clear on the concept, I’m definitely going to try some of these suggestions out, but man, -50 Dkp on me for being way behind the times…

  2. Yikes, Ricky, where have you been for the past few years? Oh yeah. Farming goblins and somesuch.

I’m not so into podcasts. I mean, they take ages just to get to the fricking point – much better to read magazines instead.

^^ Listen to this boy. He knows. ^^

Nice interview with Todd. Word to the wise: telephones + podcasts = bad. Sound quality was a bit iffy – couldn’t work out if he was talking like that because he wanted to be understood above the crackle and hiss, or if he was just really sleepy.

The interesting sentence: the ‘dadda’ baby-talk in Fallout 3 is voiced by Todd’s own son. Dawwwwwwwwww.

Baby Toddlet? That would explain why Todd’s sleepy.

This weekend, I’m mostly listening to the tracks I bought from Amazon’s music download service. Why oh why have I never used it before? One click and it’s mine all mine! My only problem – how to stop spending too much money on tracks …

  3. It’s okay Ricky, I had never listened to a podcast either up until a few weeks ago when I decided to listen to the Check Your HUD podcast.
