What we’re playing: Flower(s) for Valentine’s Edition

It’s Valentine’s weekend, so several guys at the office are giving some love to Flower — a new downloadable game out on PlayStation 3 this week. if you’re looking for something different, I highly recommend it.

Here’s the rest of what we’re playing. Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend.

Matt Grandstaff, Community Manager: Oblivion, Flower, LittleBigPlanet.

Craig Lafferty: Flower, Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, Call of Duty: World at War.

Fred Zeleny, The 23rd Cylon: running around in Mirror’s Edge, delving back into awesome puzzles with The Fool’s Errand, and suspecting my friends in the Battlestar Galactica boardgame – the most intense game of paranoia and deception since Diplomacy.

Andrew Scharf: Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, Persona 4, Mirror’s Edge, Prince of Persia.
Ryan Lea, Programmer: Mirror’s Edge (PS3).

Ryan Salvatore, Associate Artist: World of Warcraft, Civilization IV, Left4Dead, Team Fortress 2.

Mark Lampert, Audio Director: Grand Theft Auto IV, completed at last and now even more fun with cheat codes — there’s nothing like taking a helicopter to the bowling alley.

Brent Krische, QA Tester: I’ve been playing a lot of Fallout 3 recently and working on my mods for Tron 2.0 and Unreal Tournament 3. I also want to check out Flower at some point during the weekend.

  1. Love the blog, it’s really cool to see what kind of games you guys play. It made me think that the games you have played in the past are inspiration for your work. I would be interested to hear more about some of the research you guys do to both inspire your work, and to create it. For instance, for something like Fallout 3, did you have company gun range practice, or read up on survivalist literature? Perhaps you go to outside consultants? What about the concept of vault life? Was there research you consulted? I remember that whole biosphere project back in the 90s which might be the closest thing i know of to a “vault” experience in the real world. It would be really cool to read what you can tell us about this part of game development.

  2. Yeah Matt Grandstaff !!! I also picked my Oblivion back up the past couple weeks and have been enjoying it again, just a little break from Fallout 3 while I wait for the new DLC to come out in March! Go Matt!
