What we’re watching: Best of TV 2009

As 2009 winds down, we’re asking folks at the office to share their favorites of the year — in television, music, movies, games, and anything else we think of. We’ll kick it off with television. Among the favorites this year were Battlestar Galactica, 30 Rock, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mad Men, and Dexter.

Here’s the rundown. Share with us your favorite shows of the year — whether you’re watching them on broadcast TV, DVR, DVD, Blu Ray or Betamax.

Kurt Kuhlmann: How I Met Your Mother, The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Lost, BSG (lamented), 30 Rock, The Office, and Entourage.

Regi Jacob: It’s been a challenging year for TV in my house since we don’t get cable and my kid recently broke our HD antenna. Thank the gods for Netflix. Lost, Dexter, and BSG all the way.

Brent Krische: Dexter, Dirty Jobs, Get Smart, Mythbusters, So You Think You Can Dance, Venture Brothers, and Weeds

Gary Powell: Sons Of Anarchy, Dexter, and Deadliest Warrior.

Matt Killmon: Mad Men and The IT Crowd.

Ryan Lea: Pushing Daisies, The Office, Burn Notice, and Psych. Oh and usually things that are on History, Animal Planet, and Discovery. Though they haven’t been as good lately.

Chris Rodriguez: Modern Family, NBC Thursday Night, Always Sunny, Sunday NFL Countdown

Adam Adamowicz: Akira Kurosawa samurai movies, Sealab 2021 reruns. Golden Girls…Uncut.

Dane Olds, Artist: My top 5 TV shows of the year. 1. The Universe, 2. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 3. Venture Btothers, 4. Dirty Jobs, and 5. Ghost Hunters.

Megan Sawyer, Environment Artist: Dexter, True Blood, V, Castle, and my new favorite show of all time — Glee. 😀

Michael Onufrak: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mad Men, and Bored to Death.

Shane Liesegang: Friday Night Lights (*love* this show, even though the Dillon Panthers are now the villains and I don’t know what to do with all my booster gear), The Office, and How I Met Your Mother.

Greg Ruddick: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Modern Family, 30 Rock, and Green Wing.

Michael Wagner: Fringe, True Blood, Dexter, Castle, Phineas and Ferb.

Gary Noonan: All caught up on Californication , Top Gear,  and Life.

Larry Waldman, QA: Dollhouse, Supernatural, Chuck, Dexter, and The Office

Dan Ross: South Park, Dexter, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Entourage.

Pete Hines: House, Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, sports events where my team wins.

Mark Lampert: Sherlock Holmes with the best Holmes there ever was, Jeremy Brett.

Daryl Brigner: Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, House, 30 Rock, Modern Family, and The Office.

Sean Palomino: House MD, Ninja Warrior, and Steven Seagal Lawman.

Ryan Jenkins: I watch TV shows retroactively on DVD, so for me it was Boston Legal and now Supernatural.

Matt Grandstaff: 30 Rock, Weeds, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, True Blood, Entourage, Lost, and the final season of Battlestar Galactica. Next year I need to catch up on Dexter and Mad Men.

Jonah Lobe, Character Artist: 30 Rock, Fringe, Mad Men, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

  1. I’m Watching some Curb, the Office U.S and most importantly (re-watching) The Sopranos, it don’t get much better than The Sopranos!!

  2. True Blood (can’t wait for the cliffhanger to be solved in the next season)
Breaking Bad (this show starts slow, but by the end of the season you will be engrossed. Sometimes it’s painfull to watch.)
Life (sad it’s cancelled, but they were able to wrap the storyline up)
Friday Night Lights (have to get used to old characters leaving town)
Greek (catching up on what I missed by dropping out of college… twice)
Heroes (not the best season, and I can see why many people turned away from the show. Sometimes the story takes incredulous jumps, but I guess that’s in line with it’s comic book inspiration.)
Lost (can’t wait for the concluding season)
24 (I liked this season, but I hated the redemption movie. Afterwards it really didn’t play a part in Jack’s story so I still don’t see the point.)
Southpark (Always curious what they will be lampooning next).
Sons of Anarchy (great season this year, but I got to wrap this up, I’m about to watch the finale.

  3. Dexter is an AWESOME show. Just started watching it on On Demand a month or two ago and I’m all caught up with season 4 now. 🙂

The ending to tonight’s episode was such a cliff hanger!!!!

I hate waiting a damn week for the show! Not only that but after next week we will all have to wait a year! 🙁

  5. Dexter is getting crazy now haha. What a cliffhanger indeed.

I’m starting to wonder about next season. I’m thinking Quinn might become like Doakes in the 2nd season.

  6. Got no cable since 2004 but will probably be seeing about it next year. Think theres enough new stuff to enjoy since then for awhile 😀

On the internet and my Dvd collection am indulging in the delights of:

    American Gothic
    Dario Argento horror movies
Lemora A Childs Tale Of The Supernatural
    Pee Wee’s Play House (Youtube)
    The Uncle Floyd Show (Youtube)
    Battlespire playthroughs (Youtube)

Best games for me this year:
    Warhammer40k Dawn Of War 2
    Painkiller Resurrection (omg! its good!)
    Wolfenstein 2009 version
Left4Dead still havent played the sequel

Then of course there are the year after year constants of:

    Fallout 3
Warhammer40k Dawn Of War and expansions

Great Gatsby! I could go on and on! Life is good 🙂

  7. Earlier in the year it was all about Battlestar Galactica, which despite its disappointing dip towards the end (writer’s strike?) remains the best TV show I’ve ever seen.

Also been watching Dexter, Spooks, Flash Forward, and – of course – The X-Factor!

  8. Since there’s hardly anything worth watching anyways, I’m reading fanfics and browsing the internet… Except for episodes of Bones and/or Castle. Then I’ll watch TV.

  9. So lets see…
    House MD: My favorite show.
    Fringe: I love that show!!
Family Guy: I can’t get enough of that show. I love Stewie & Brian
    Bones, NCSI and More House.

  10. I knew I forgot a few shows…
The New Adventures of Old Christine,
MONK:I had a family member with OCD..
And a very great show, M*A*S*H..
