2010: The Year We Make Games

As the severe headaches indicate, 2010 is finally upon us, and there is no going back. What we can do, however, is reflect.

What were your favorite games and mods of the year? The decade? And what cool gaming stuff are you looking forward to in the new year? Let us know in the comments.

Plenty of other sites are running their own series of reflections. GamePro took a lengthy look back at 2009’s biggest gaming news, including a highlight of ZeniMax’s “surprise” acquisition of id Software. Examining the entire decade, Gamestooge has finished up its Top 50 feature, adding Fallout 3 to a list that already included Oblivion and Morrowind.

With an eye toward the future, two separate G4 staffers have named Fallout: New Vegas as one of their most anticipated 2010 titles. Shacknews is getting fired up about Brink, while The Sixth Axis is excited for both New Vegas and Brink.

We’re certainly looking forward to sharing more about both games this year. For now, a very Happy New Year to everyone. Enjoy today’s various sporting events — I have a feeling that a significant portion of the team is currently doing the same.

  1. Oh yes yes yes yes yes please please please please. I want a new episode from the TES world. Pleaaase. Your work in Oblivion is so wonderful. I remember, of my own experience in this game, the feeling I felt when I was playing this game, discovering this magic world fantastic opened world, and when I think about it, my heart beats faster than normally. Sometimes, I’d like rediscover this world to feel it again. Sure I can play it on my Xbox, but I have not this wonderful feeling in myself. Fallout 3 is also a super good game, and I love travel in it. So, please, make my heart beating again, make me dream of this game again.

  2. The Elder Scrolls V please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please, change combat a bit? 🙂

  3. when will people accept that it will be a long time until a new Elder Scrolls is released? no way that would come out so close to the new Fallout…

  4. Games looking forward to:
    1. The Elder Scrolls V (PROBABLY NOT THIS YEAR)
    2. StarCraft II (better not be bad)
    3. Fallout: New Vegas (eh, sorta)
    4. Guild Wars 2 (may come out)

  5. I vote for TES V as well. I wonder why its still in the misty shrouds of probability rather than a standing announcment. I mean. 4 years from TES III to TES IV and now (under actual dev circumstances) 6 years until TES V? Is the Genre really that sucked out? Are the System requierments too high for a new installment of a Engine?

Fortunatly TES III and IV arent at their end yet. Thanks to all the great mods and because of the very accessible and thriving Universe 🙂

Keep up the good work. Oh and by the way Congratulations to the Bookseries. Greg Keyes has a very nice approach on the TES Universe. Except maybe for that Soulstheim thingy. I wonder what it is… 🙂 (laughs)
