Hot off the press… here’s our press release officially announcing Prey 2!

Sequel to Award-Winning Prey to be Available in 2012

March 14, 2011 (Rockville, MD) — Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced that Prey® 2, the sequel to the popular 2006 game, is scheduled for release in 2012 and will be available for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows. Further details on the game will be revealed in the May issues of Official Xbox Magazine and PlayStation: The Official Magazine, as well as in magazines throughout Europe.

Prey 2 is being developed by Human Head Studios, the studio that created Prey, the original, award-winning game. Prey 2 is being built on the cutting edge id tech engine from id Software.

“We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda on Prey 2,” said Chris Rhinehart, project lead. “Prey 2 will provide gamers the opportunity to explore a new facet of the Prey universe, one that offers fast-paced action in an open, alien world. We’re excited to show gamers the title we have been working on and hope they will be as excited by this title as we are.”

  1. I really liked the first Prey personally. I know it was a divisive title with people, but I’ve played through it a couple of times and enjoyed it immensely . Hopefully the sequel doesn’t shake up the formula too much and keeps what made the original enjoyable.

  2. Yep, it’s confirmed – I have too many games on Steam (as if I didn’t already know that.) When I read the headline on my RSS-reader I started thinking “Prey.. Prey.. Do I know that game?” then I got a vague suspicion, used the new nifty search function in my library on Steam and found that oh, I own that. No I remember that I bought it in one of the many massive sales, paying next to nothing for it, but I haven’t had time to play it yet.

Well, I guess I should try it out sometime before Prey 2 is released then.

  3. I need to remind everyone that 1st Prey was also made for Macintosh platform – the most growing platform every year…
This second part was excluded of real multi-plaform support, again.

  4. nice, i bought Prey 1 on release to PC back in 06 when they collaborated wth 3drealms. But WHAT is it real what i see no PC version ?!? god what a huge let down for us pc gamers

  5. @sMFE Read again, and read the LAST part of this sentence…

Scheduled for release in 2012 and will be available for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows.

Hope you see it this time. =)

  6. @max Obsidians going to slowly release the dlcs throughout the year. Should be an announcement sometime this month or the next. Second both Obsidian and Bethesda are working on patching and tweaking New Vegas while working on the multiple announced(Dungeon Siege 3-Obsidian, Skyrim-Bethesda Game Studios) and unannounced titles they have. No use bringing it up here. It’s a Bethesda -Softworks- announcement. Basically their publishing arm. And nice, second title to be made using ID Tech 5 eh? Never played the first Prey. Any good?

  7. Correction, seems Hines clarified its not being made on ID Tech 5 as it wasn’t being developed on that from the start. Tech 5’s still a work in progress anyways. Most likely using a modified previous version. Isn’t a bad thing though, look at Brink for proof. Their previous technology holds up to this date it seems. Not that it was very old in the first place. Or pushed to the max like Gamebryo(Rockstar’s Bully, Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Epic Mickey, Fallout New Vegas, And Rift just to name a few.)

  8. I don’t understand why they replaced Tommy from the first game. He was a relatively unique protagonist, not only in personality but also in the fact that he was Native American. Now he’s being replaced with a generic white guy. Prey’s ending left the story wide open for Tommy so it’s dumb to just drop him completely. I guess they were afraid that a Native American protagonist wouldn’t sell as well.

My interest and I know many others in the sequel has dropped quite a bit because of this.

  9. when will you release the oblivion plug ins for ps3? its bern 4 years since pete hines stated you were trying to. does it really take this long to make 20 mb files available for the ps3?
