Brink it forward: Release date moved up one week!!

Exciting news alert!!! We’ve moved up the release date for Brink by a week. The game will now release on May 10th in North America  and May 13th in Europe. Wanna learn more? Read the media alert below…

Bethesda Softworks Announces Earlier Release Date for Brink

Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced that its acclaimed first-person shooter, Brink, will be available one week EARLIER than originally scheduled. Brink will now first be available for purchase in North America on May 10th instead of May 17th, and in Europe on May 13th instead of May 20th.

“Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn’t see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready,” said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. “It’s apparent from the tremendous reaction so far that people are eager to jump online and play, and if we can make that happen earlier – we’re going to.”

Brink, an immersive first-person shooter under development at Splash Damage,  a studio celebrated for its multi-player expertise, was named as the ‘Game of Show’ at Eurogamer Expo 2010, while declared “Brink takes shooters to a whole new level” and proclaimed “it’s going to be one of the standout shooters of the year.” Blending single-player, co-op, and multiplayer action into one seamless experience, Brink features dynamic battlefields, extensive customization options, and an innovative control system. Brink will be released for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows.

  1. wow, moving UP a game release!? congrats on the game industry’s version of finding hen’s teeth in a haystack under a blue moon!

now, personally i prefer any game developer to use any extra time for bug testing… i hope that’s not left up to the players.

  2. Glad to see this is coming out a week earlier, can’t wait.

in response to emilio : Dead Space (I not II) came out i believe 2 weeks earlier (oct 17 instead of 31), but i am glad that more new IP’s are deciding to take the initiative and not choke their public with later dates.

    Feels Good Man

  3. Wicked!! Thanks for the show of fan love, Bethesda and Splash Damage! <3 Hmm this sets an interesting precedent… can't really ask for it, but I can still hope that something similar happens with Skyrim!

  4. Moving the Time forward!!!! Wow you really are “breaking all the rules” lolroflmaoleetleeet!!!!!!1oneeleven

  5. hell yea im glad yall took yall time to make it prefect but i been wait forever for this game and for it to come out a week early makes my day

  6. Oh lord!

This is basically one of the best promotions for a game ever! Normally it’s the other way! SplashDamage & Bethsoft your def. on the right track! This also means that the game probably is without the big starting errors! I’m so glad 🙂

  7. On the bright side, i wont suffer in anticipation as long.

On the dark side, i probably study for my finals now.

  8. Being from the “old school” of boardgames, (and with a little help) from my sons, I am now a devoted video gamer. This is the one game that I will enjoy playing over and over again. One week early release is indeed a great surprise. Taking the day off to play at least half a day, if not more.

  9. what if you already preordered it and are having it shipped to you on the original release date? will the company ship it to you then or will they ship it to you on the new release date?

  10. i know you guys are busy with final touches of brink but i really think you should have a quick beta or demo come out before the release date. many people think it would not be good, but i really think it will be great fun game. but you guys need to release a demo to get those people who are thinking twice about brink. i believe more people would get brink if you were to release a demo or beta.

  11. for everyone commenting and or worried about it being released too early.
remeber brink was supposed to be out already they pushed back the date a few times my guess is to make sure it finished. now they moved it back up one week. to me this is a sign that they ironed out whatever problems they had and are now releasing a highly polished product.

cant wait to play this one gonna be huge!

  12. When I pre-ordered this at Best Buy last week, I saw that it told me to come in on May 10. I thought it was a mistake, but really hoped it wasn’t.

    Thank you Splash Damage!

  13. Er, while this is great and all there is one thing that bothers me which I would like gstaff to comment on.

Didn’t the devs announce recently that some features (e.g. XP transfer from one character to another) were dropped because they did not have enough time to include them? With that in mind accelerating the release seems … weird to say the least.

    • @Demut. Transferring XP was actually a feature dropped months ago and was not impacted by the decision to release the game a week early. As Pete noted, the release date moved up because Splash Damage completed the game ahead of schedule..

  14. This is great news and very rare announcement from big game company. Go Developers GO!

although already there is some neat functions disabled from the game that were supposed to be in the final game. So we can only hope to find few minor bugs in the PvP multiplayer mode at the launch day. As we (the world wide player base) know, there will eventually be many multiplayer issues in the start.

let’s just hope developers have fast reaction time to fix those bugs on the fly…

  15. Cant wait for this game, been lookin at container city preview almost every day, Brink te me looks amazin. Nice 1 Splash Damage for givin us fps hounds such a breath of fresh air. ROLL ON 13 OF MAY. YYEEE HHHAAAAA!!!!!

  16. HELL YES!

nuff said there, but I’m so ready for this game, it coming out sooner only makes it better. 😀

  17. @gstaff: I know that this was decided months ago and that it wasn’t done so it could be released one week earlier. What I am talking about is this quote from Neil Alphonso, the Lead Level Designer (named “Exedore” on the SD forums), regarding said changes:

“It’s something we wanted to do, but was ultimately a casualty of getting the game finished for May.”

So unless I misunderstand this he was saying that they could not implement aforementioned features because they had not enough time left, right?

  18. Right, but it was still a feature scrapped months ago. At some point, game developers (not just Splash Damage) have to makes decisions on when a game will release, what will be in the game, and also what won’t be in the game. The decisions aren’t always easy. Just like making an album or a painting, there’s always something else you could do. Ultimately though, you make the decisions that you feel are best for the game.

Design decisions made months ago really aren’t a factor in this case. At any rate, we’re excited to move the game up by one week and we hope you enjoy the game.

  19. wicked recieved this originally from gamespot but cool thanks! cant wait for this but i still need to know what the button the smart button is!

  20. I was already requesting the 18th off so I could play it all day after it came out, but now I’ll have to request the 11th off! SOO stoked. Thanks guys! 😀

  21. I-We, are extremely happy about the release date moved up, but you probably notice that we want a beta. A demo would be even better, but either way, Please, oh god PLEASE put out a demo on PC, because a beta/demo i think would be great. For example, I, along with several others would be glad to tell you some things you can do to improve.

  22. it seems to me that brink does not stack up to la noire…
better move it 1 week in advance to avoid problems.

    not a sign of quality.

  23. I love how bethesda is just dominating the game industry this year. Brink, Skyrim, and Rage all in one year this is sweet. Can’t wait for Brink by the way so siked!!!
