QuakeCon 2011: Skyrim Collector’s Edition Announced!!!

For months many of you have asked for details on whether or not there will be Collector’s Edition for Skyrim. At the end of a rousing QuakeCon presentation, game director Todd Howard confirmed its existence.

The limited collector’s edition for The Elder Scrolls® V: Skyrim™ will be available for Xbox 360, PS3, and Games for Windows and can be pre-ordered now through participating retailers in North America, Europe and Australia. Like the regular release of the game, the Collector’s Edition will be available on 11.11.11

In addition to including the highly-anticipated game, this premium version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also includes:

  • 12” Alduin Statue: Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector’s only statue stands 12” tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater. He stands perched atop one the game’s many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons.
  • ‘The Art of Skyrim’ coffee table book: Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-color illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 9 3/8” x 12 1/8” coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments, and weaponry of Skyrim. With a foreword by game director Todd Howard and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists, readers will be guided through the game’s iconic visual style.

  1. I got it & same day shipping and tax = $174 … you better make the PS3 version worth it. or I will hate Tod for not caring for all of those PS3 Group who loved Oblivion but were elbowed with Fallout at launch …. Joking TOD you are great person. Cheers!

  2. @gstaff

Is the pre-order (synthetic burlap) map the same material as the one found in the Oblivion 5th anniversary edition?

    • No, the map that was in the 5th Anniversary is a different type of paper… has more of a burlap feel. The one with Oblivion is more of a rubberized feel.

  3. I hope the dragons can destroy the town! That would be spectacular! And I hope that the fights are really cool… xD

  4. @eoin — it’s only slightly smalller and that’s because it has to fit in the game case. PlayStation 3 game cases are slightly smaller than 360/PC cases.

  5. I already paid for this game in full and pre-ordered it online about 2 months back, which came to a total of $74.00 (U.S dollars) am I now going to have to pay $150 for this game now?

  6. No Pocket guide?
I was going to buy Skyrim’s CE just for that.
If it doesn’t have one then I’ll just have to pass and buy the book or dvd elsewhere a few months from release.

That sucks, looking forward to having a pocket guide for once. Looked interesting.

  7. As I said previously, I would preorder it…and I did just that…today. I had the money saved up for it and I had planned to get the CE if I could afford it, so I have no regrets about spending the $150. I will walk out of Gamestop (hopefully at midnight) with this thing while wearing a ridiculously huge grin. First time purchasing a CE and I plan to do the same for the next TES game 🙂

    Can’t wait until November. 😀

Okay, maybe I can. Oblivion is still an awesome game and Bruma is close enough for a few months. XD

  8. I love you, Bethesda, but what a total rip-off. A statue, a book and a Making of movie all for whooping 150 bucks?! Are you people mad?! No way I am paying 150 euros for this.

  9. I am sensing a trend in all the comments…

    A couple side notes…

IIRC, Fallout: NV Making Of DVD was just sad… all the footage was available to download for *free* on the internet, in *high definition*, and we got all the same footage in *standard definition* on a DVD.

It would be better if the Making Of for Skyrim was a Blu-ray instead of a DVD, but regardless, I sure hope it has a ton of exclusive stuff that’s really worth watching.

I would still trade the Making Of DVD for a CD soundtrack any day. Just release the Making Of footage online instead.

Someone said “GFWL what the heck!” or something to that effect. Not that that person will read this, but GFWL and GFW are two different things. GFW is just the name for games released on PCs  I don’t think anyone is releasing games requiring GFWL anymore – thank goodness.

Still deciding whether the artbook, which is all that I really want in this CE, is worth it. Guess I’ll have to decide once this pre-order shows up on Amazon.ca… which should be… any day now?

  10. Mostly a waste of money if you ask me, but that’s just my opinion. The art book seems to be the only thing worthwhile among the contents, but will eventually become useless after 1-2 times of looking through it; after this, the book will serve as a dust collector. The “making of” dvd is garbage because it contains nothing but boring crap about making the game. A soundtrack would have been a better deal than a stupid “making of” dvd.

The statue looks bland… I’ve seen better looking pvc models. Based on the screenshot shown above, the statue doesn’t appear to be worth as much as what Bethesda is charging. The details aren’t that great. The wall Alduin is sitting on looks generic because it appears to be lacking fine details. The details on Alduin certainly looks better than the wall, but still not good enough for my tastes considering that people will have to shell out $150+ for the collector’s edition. Oh well, at least it seems like Bethesda put more effort into this collector’s edition than Microsoft’s horrendous Halo 3 legendary edition… I’m glad I didn’t buy one of those.

  11. @TheFrenchGuy – “Representational images only. Final product may vary.” It doesn’t mean the PS3 map is smaller. It’s just a mockup. For whatever reason, whoever made the final promo images didn’t keep their template consistent – not what I usually expect from Bethesda’s PR department. Notice how the rating and small print also jump around, and the Xbox image is lighter than the other two.

On another note, it’s always sad to see Microsoft’s horrendously large Xbox and GFW logo bars ruin disc and manual artwork. Bethesda may not have much control over that though. I wish publishers/developers didn’t have to have their beautiful art and design marred by corporate branding.

  12. Bethesda… I swear to god you guys are loosing it. First this BS collectors edition, then the suing of the word “Scrolls”. You guys are my favorite game company of all time, and Oblivion is indeed my favorite game of all time. But the way you guys are looking kind of reminds me how easily a company can transform. Lets just say I hope Skyrim isn’t following in your current footsteps.

I have been incredibly psyched over a collector’s edition for this game. And you bring not only me, but your entire community this. Sure SOME people may like it, but if you heard the community, many don’t in fact the majority don’t. You guys have listened to your fans this far. Don’t give us a cheap sculpture my water bottle is made out of. Well at least for that price. Honestly my faith in this company outside of the game is slowly being drained just by looking at this and the price tag.

I mean you guys must be blind to see that a community that WANTS CE of your game because we know we will love it. And we support you, but you guys seem to bring out a terrible CE for the price. I truly can say that Bethesda has made some mistakes that will degrade your reputation just like the horse armour.

    -Your disappointed yet loyal fan.

  13. Meh I already pre-ordered the strategy guide along with the game and watched pretty much every video about skyrim so the behind the scenes stuff is nothing new to me and goes beyond what I really care to know and the book I would just put aside and never read plus the guide will have just as much if not more in it so really that just leaves the statue which along with the book will just decorate the room so for me doesn’t seem worth it unless there’s some bonus content which will be in the GOTY edition later on.

  14. Why no updated pocket guide, that was actually the only thing I wanted out of this CE, or maybe a netch leather poutch for my “golden septim”.

I would rather have seen something that felt like it came form the actual game world (like the septim and pocket guide from oblivion’s CE)

sadly I won’t be upgrading my pre-order for this stuff

  15. ^ I agree. I wanted something from the game, like even a plastic replica of the iron helmet shown on all of your trailers. Or like a soul jem, or a cool carrying case. Just something that would make me proud to put on my desk, rather than a statue made out of pvc, which hardly puts me into the game.

  16. Ugh. Too expensive, yet I’ve already pre-ordered it anyway because I absolutely must have the “The Making Of” DVD. But really guys, you’re pushing it with that price.

Of course, from a business perspective it’s still going to work out for you, because enough suckers like me will want one of the things badly enough that these will STILL probably all sell out. From a short-term perspective this will work out fine for you. But from a long-term perspective this angers your customer base, and that is really not a good thing to do.

  17. Glad a collectors has been announced but I to wonder how Bethesda can justify charging $199.99(AUS) but only $149.99(US), the Australian dollar had been worth more than the US dollar for many months now…which suggests it to be a bit of a cash grab, which is disappointing.

  18. Sweet! Very cool dragon statue! The art book beats any other collectors edition game book i know of. I cannot wait. I am going to take vacation on Friday 1.11.11 to play this game. I hope there will be a early release at midnight like Fallout 3, cause I will be there! $150 for this? I think it is worth it.

  19. Do they know that according to the actual value exchange 149.99 $ are only 105.4 € and not 149.99€? why the hell do we in Europe have to pay 50% more than people in US? and is the same for the UK!! what´s going on people? are they mobing us or what? I´m still gonna buy the game but this feel like a slap in the face. Sad…

  20. @BETHESDA:
There is so much confusion here, because you show the the Collector’s edition with the high quality burlap map, but do no mention it in the content description. So please clarify the following:

The high quality burlap map is…
    a) …part of EVERY Collector’s Edition
    b) …is a gift that comes with every PRE-ORDERED Collector’s Edition
    c) …is a gift that ONLY comes with the pre-ordered STANDARD EDITION

  21. @Kilimanjaro

“Why the same price en euros and dollars?. Do you think people in Europe are richer than in USA? Even in UK will be cheaper than in euros.”

because of the extra shipping cost probably.

  22. ?? ???? ???? ??? ? ???? orz;;;;;
dear how can i bay in korea…lol

    ?? ??? 50$?? ??? ?? 40$ ???
real, think so charge’s 50$ add little lower duty 40$

  23. Well,People who don’t want to pay for it need to stop complaining about it,and just get it or don’t.I f you don’t like it then don’t get. Well just so you know Bethesda, I like it and I already Pre-ordered it and payed it off, Thank you Bethesda for makin such a good Collector’s Edition for Skyrim.

  24. Awesome! Very expensive though :S If I’d ever wanted to pre-order this I would have to consider it 52 times before paying. Hmm…

  25. It kills me to say this but I’m going to have to pre-order just the basic edition. The price for the CE is far too expensive for what we’re getting. Imagine how much more you guys could have packed into this if you didn’t include that expensive statue. A new edition of the pocket guide, a soundtrack, and maybe even a smaller version of the statue similar to the pewter figure that came with Morrowind’s CE. Hell, I could buy 2 more brand new PC games, in addition to the the basic version of Skyrim, for the money I’d be spending on this. Sorry Bethesda, you’re one of my favorite developers but I can’t support this.

  26. @ gstaff

Any word on the weight of this edition? Because game.co.uk doesn’t ship items weighing over 1000g = 1kg outside the uk.

  27. Even if I’m a bit sad about having to buy a big plastic statue just to get an artbook and the “making of Skyrim DVD” for 150 euros which is kinda sad, I still think Beth should have creds for not giving CE any ingame bonuses because those are always just a cheap trick.
Can’t wait until the release! 🙂

  28. Are y’ll going to release a collector’s edition game guide? I already have the collector’s edition pre-order and paid off i would like to have a collector’s edition game guide to go along with it,please let me know.

  29. Bethesda if you make this game $100.00 + <3 then I will buy its, we only get a few things, the New Vegas and Fallout 3 had way more stuff and it was cheaper too. I already pre-ordered it so I'm going to get my map, but please bring the price down 🙂
    Thank you

  30. $150 is not £130 its about £91 which is still to much £70-£80 would be more reasonable if it had a soundtrack and two exclusive armour sets 1 light 1 heavy. It might still have a steel case just on the outside because we only saw the inside. I think Bethesda might drop the price because of this and add a soundtrack. I hope the dvd upscales to 1080p on a hdtv like games do.

  31. Not worth the money at all. Just look at the mass effect 3 collectors edition, you get way more, including mini-dlc, for $80

this is just to make money.

    • Of course its to make money, and whats wrong with that??
Bethesda has been working for 5 years on this game, maybe its time to get paid for the work. Dont you wanna get paid for the work you do?

Please use your brain before you post comments like this.

      • Ps.

And it’s because people around the world buy their stuff that they can keep on releasing fantastic games..
So I will glady support them so we will se more cool games in the future.
