To provide feedback on the beta update, use our beta forum.

After the break, get details on how to participate in the Steam Beta.

If you’d like to download the 1.7 Beta Update on Steam, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. Log into Steam
  2. Click on Steam in the upper menu
  3. Select Settings
  4. Under the Account tab, go to the Beta Participation section and select Change.
  5. A drop down menu will appear. Select Skyrim Beta.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Steam will now restart. After Steam restarts, Skyrim will be updated to the Beta version currently available.

If you opt into the Beta, be sure to back up your saved games or simply be careful not to overwrite your existing saves. If you decide to opt out of the beta program, your old saves will still work with the current release of Skyrim on Steam (v 1.6).

If you decide you don’t want to run the Beta anymore, redo steps 1 – 4. At the drop down, select NONE – Opt out of all beta programs. Let Steam restart, and Skyrim will automatically update itself back to the latest released version.

  1. Hope you fix dead thrall getting stuck and not following you any more, or dead thrall + dead thrall again on another dead body and you end up with a manequin and a dead thrall.

  2. Stop blaming bethesda for making what is actually a good business move. It WILL come out on PS3 and PC eventually. PC users cant complain because they have literally an infinate number of mods to play (or create); and as for PS3 users, sorry to say but you chose the wrong console to buy skyrim for. And additionally, these exclusivity periods are one of the reasons why you PAY for xbox live gold. This is just one of the many ways that Microsoft validates charging for online. So dont say that bethesda made a bad move because if you were in there position and didnt make the same decision, you are an idiot. Bethesda has done nothing wrong and also as for the wait for updates on the ps3, that is ENTIRELY sony’s fault. You can’t blame bethesda for sony not approving an update that was submitted ON TIME.

    • thats not realy the issue the issue is lack of info xbox users wouldent like it if makers of halo sad halos coming out with no planed date

  3. Mr. Howard, please give PS3 users an update regarding Dawnguard and the latest patch release date. Bill Gates is NOT the true High King of Skyrim! I will not purchase an XBox until they decide to produce a quality product and offer free live online service.

  4. We could all REALLY do with the bugs for houses and stuff that actually affects game play rather than kinect shouts!, since dawnguard came out ive not been able to get a alchemy table in breezehome due to this crappy DLC thats more important than kinect shouts which probably 50% wont use at any time

  5. I updated successfully to 1.7 on PS3 (even though it says 1.6). I still do not have mounted combat. WTF? On top of that…I still have ‘collect bounty from brina merilis’ stuck in my misc quests…times 5. They still didn’t clear. I reloaded the game data and patch and that didn’t help. Nice patch. It literally did nothing. Do I have to start the whole game over again (for a third time) for this patch to actually do something? I’m not going to do that. I’m not one of the whiners, but I’m getting there fast. This is getting ridiculous.
